Spare keys giveaway puzzle

Since I have 3 spare keys (I gots myself 2 goodie bags, and I'm getting one from Firebox. I'm keeping one for myself, and gave one away already) I decided to give them away. And, like when I gave away P01s, I decided to set youse all a puzzle. Well, that and this idea's been itching to be made.

Anyway, first 3 solves of this puzzle will get a key each. All solves MUST be emailed to me, at agent.lexSPLATgmail.com, purely for timekeeping purposes. I'll be posting this elsewhere aswell, in the interest of fairness to those people who don't read here, so forum PMs and the like won't work.

Anyway, your puzzle is at the link below:
http://www.noblesse-oblige.org/agentlex/puzzles/magic.html

Good luck on solving it! Twisted Evil

Name? Lol, thats an awesome puzzle, if I get time I'll look at it but I already have spare keys so no point for me.

Also for some reason hand 4 and 5 aren't displyed properly, says:

Hand 4
Hand 5
then the tables for both of them.

Oops. I'll fix this when I get home tonight. I believe all of the cards are correct nonetheless.

Oh, and yes, name. You can get "Lex" out of the puzzle, too (no that's not the answer).

well that's random. Ok, so uhm, I know literally nothing about magic, except that it involves cards with sometimes-pretty artwork. It would be impolite to ask if more knowledge than that is required. But fFrankly, I'm wondering if it's worth me even considering the puzzle. Like I've got a couple basic ideas, but without any idea what the cards look like or do, I have no way to go fForward.

I don't think there's any Magic knowledge required... since the cards are (presumably) made up, and we only have their names, I'd guess there's something encoded into them...

King of Wrong, I'm sorry to alleritate, but I think you're wrong, these cards all all (at least the 20 or so i checked) real ones, but damn if I'm at a loss as to how the rules of the game works.

Yup, my mistake. The rules are pretty trivial... A couple of minutes on a Magic info site, like here should explain how this game is played.

Of course, that leaves the points system and how to figure out the names, but it is enough to figure out who would have won each hand.

I don't want to gazump Lexy's comp, but there will be spares available. At the wrap party people got two in each goody bag, plus there'll be one with each Firebox order so pretty soon we'll be awash with them (probably before Stories kicks off in April) so if your desperate for one it shoudn't be too much bother. Keep your eyes peeled. Wink

[edit] As I should, another competition on the perplexcitystories site:

Despairing because you couldn't come to our celebration party? We can't recreate the experience, but we can give out some goodies! We're giving away 15 goodie bags from the night of the party, containing some exclusive season 2 previews.

To enter all you have to do is answer a very simple question: what is the current weight of the Receda Cube?

The 15 closest answers will each win a goodie bag, so start guessing! It's one entry per person and remember to include your name and Perplex City username. Send your answers to partySPLATperplexcity.com

The competition closes on Monday 12th March at 12pm GMT, so you've got a bit of time just in case you want to make an exact replica.

I'm not sure why they stipulate current weight...did someone shave a bit off at the party?

So that's at least 16 chances.

Okay, fine. I'll throw in my first spare Season 2 silver to the first person to get it. Razz

As for the questions:
1) Absolutely zero knowledge of Magic is required. I've never actually played it myself, and I looked up the basic rules only so I could entirely tear them down.
2) Every last card is a real, actual card.

If I had to give a hint, I'd say to look up the cards for the first two hands, especially those that are played, and figure out the rules. I actually thought the points system would be easier to figure out than the game rules, if you use the correct source for your info on the cards. I'm curious as to what KingOfWrong reckons the rules are now Smile

The Cube's weight has been known to change from time to time (source).
