[PUZZLE] JapaneseFolder Code and Handkerchief Code

Matt posted a new entry on RoD:

Quote:
The last of Tinneman's codes - Wed, March 14, 2007

As far as I can tell, these are the last of Dr. Tinneman's codes. I've scoured everything, shaken out all the journal pages and looked in every envelope and cardboard flap. I'd been feeling pretty hopeless about the whole Genero situation, though, and felt like a robot as I was scanning these last pages in, as if I were doing it more out of a sense of obligation. Closure, at least for all you folks out there who have been graciously helping me with all these codes. But what was the point, really? Genero is still out there somewhere, continuing his evil deeds, evading justice forever, just like he has for forty years.

Then I got the first real glimmer of hope I've had in quite some time. I got an email from Konamouse at MHC, with a very important piece of information. I don't want to reveal it publicly, for reasons that I'm hoping and praying will soon become apparent. But trust me, it's big.

So at least Matt seems to have not given up on things....

The codes look like variants on the decoder flap ciphers.

[SOLVED] Japanese Folder Code

For the code on the Japanese folder, I first thought that each of the flap keys must correspond to a different word in the cipher, for 9 words in all. But I quickly discovered that the keys don't change neatly with the words, so it became more trial and error, going letter by letter to see what worked...

Anyway, here's the solve:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

GENERO'S FILLED THAT LAB WITH WEIRD MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

And that gives us the password to NKP!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"medicalequipment"

Which I'll post in the m-a-r-a thread...

I transcribed the hanky

and using the 1-8 as instructions to:

cycle thru the decoder flaps, so letter one has just flap 1 down, lift it, letter two decodes with just flap 2 down, lift it, etc., then the ninth letter is back to using just flap 1 down, etc.
giving this solution:

I FOUND RECORDS FROM THIS CHASE PROGRAM SHOWING THAT GENERO WASNT USING IT FOR DISPOSING OF CHEMICALS BUT INSTEAD HE DUMPED THEM IN POPULATED AREAS TT OBSERVE THE EFFECTS

and that was worth losing some sleep for :) good night!
