For whatever reason (they changed the page, who knows) I get this as the string of letters:

theocooroowgdsammfaesthelhndkehewthecongofwmsrmdandthemoseon

not the same... trying to compare now

It's no coincidence... taking a closer look at how the two lines match up gives us these letters out of place:

the two lines:
thtocoorhewgtsemmfaesldshhndkeheasowcongofwmtrmeanddoomeheon top line
theocooroowgdsammfaesthelhndkehewthecongofwmsrmdandthemoseon
bottom line

top line: theteldshasowtedooeh
bottom line: eoodathelwthesdtheos

both exclusion strings contain the same letters: addeeeehhhlooosstttw

still working on what to do with them, however... with no support from you sleepyheads out there! Razz

EDIT: Obviously, there is some sort of substitution thingy going on. I'm not a master of this kind of puzzling, so I may leave it to the rest of you.

Well

Well, it's not a scytale, at least. I wrote a short program that basically did the same thing and checked the answers for patterns from one to sixty, starting at both the head letter and the numbered letter. Nothing even remotely close to English. Unless the pattern somehow alters, there's nothing there.

Those exclusion strings anagram to (amongst other things):
to see he told the shadow OR he told the shadow to see

dunno where it gets us though

I hope it just wasn't a "mistake"....otherwise we'll be comparing these forever to no avail.

I thought of that too, but what size "rod" are we supposed to be using? I tried to find something the same size as the straight string on the gnomon page.

Also, here are some words I've found so far with the letters that didn't change.

Stonehenge
Chromosome(s)
Monochrome
Newscaster
Transcends
Decartes
Hawthorne
Wadsworth

Chaos (chaos theory?)
Chord(s) (the music theory)

Still searching.......

in case nobody has noticed, the frequency distribution of the old string and new string are the identical. that is, there are still the same number of each of the letters. they've only been shuffled around a bit...

Which lends to the theory that this might just be a big ol' anagram, especially since there are a lot more 'the' combinations in the second string.

Too many letters for me to go through right now Confused

Good thing to question, Guest, but in this case it is no mistake. I double-checked the last 10 letters, and yesterday's post was correct for yesterday, while today's post is correct for today. The letters ARE shuffling. (The bottom portion of the "spine" is the easiest for me to control, click, and view.)

I would suspect some sort of time-delay or time-dependent code in the one Flash file, rather than a PM changing and updating the file itself. My next step was going to concentrate on the colors of the bubbles and lines they produce, but if the letters are changing, it might not be as important as it first appeared to be.

I was just reading Sunny's new post about the Don sending her flowers. I noticed a few words that can be in our string.

dark
lord
charm(s) (which has been mentioned)

She said she can resist the Dons charms. And thinks he is the "dark lord" or serves the "dark lord".

i'm thinking this is some sort of transposition cipher. which basically is a form of anagramming/mixing up letters. but with 60 letters it'd be pretty hard to solve for the plaintext without knowing how the characters were transposed. incidentally there are transpositions which utilizes spiral patterns of filling in/taking out text instead of the usual rows/columns that we usually see. see this page... http://members.aon.at/cipherclerk/Doc/GenericTransp.html
i've been working on it from this angle but nothing yet Confused

oh, the the third new string of characters also has the exact same freq distribution as the first 2 strings...

Figured it out, it was indeed an anagram:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The knowledge comes from the shadow, and the shadow comes from the gnomon.

Googling that gives me this site:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.unitedscripters.com/index.html?origin=http://www.unitedscripters.com/scripts/math5.html

but I can't find what it leads us to on the greywethers site yet.

I've been playing with the third string in the anagram online tool.
I keep seeing "god" or "gods", "knowledge", and "transform". But the rest of the possible words/letters aren't making total sense yet.
Maybe these words will help.

Remember, this is not from mythosphere guides or suppose to relate to Dale, Wes or Sam (yet). So I'm avoiding those words.

edited to add: Damn, you beat me to it by just a minute or two.
Great Job!!
