Afterthought: Maybe it's connected to the T-52 Enigma Machine... I guess it's possible.

At first I was worried about this because of the ten rotors/ten roman numerals, but the repetitions would just be too big of a coincidence. Whatever cipher was used has a relatively short period.

On my car at work! Which, of course, leads me to beleive it's someone who knows both my car and where I work. So it's a limited number of people. And I'm also relatively sure it is an ARG now.

Also, I just read the Cenobite comment. You're right. But what I wouldn't give for some spicy poppadoms and chicken curry. Man oh man.

The morse code is
Quote:
- .- -. --. --- ..... ..---
which translates to tango52, I think. Who says lunch break are good for nothing?

that sounds like a screenname.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. The T52 didnt contain all those computer grammar keys either did it? Unless the two parts of text are encoded differently, but like you said the repetition would be too big of a coincidence.

I don't know, this is sounding a little fishy to me. So far, we have a person who just joined giving us clues and such, with him as the only source for this information. Sorry Arnold, but I'm always disposed to being a bit skeptical.

Phoenix, Arizona is where I reside. Pictures of the box as a whole are doable, but it's been partially destroyed so i could get the camera at the code. I've pics of the envelope and letter. Notice in the red morse code picture that there is some white out. Also, my picture isnt very good, but there seems to be a morse code border around the entire memo that is clearly hand-made. Third, the writing on the envelope and the red morse code look like they were drawn with a caligraphy pen (note the wide to thin lines used to make my name). Last, the K in my name is upside-down.

Here's a transcript of the letter:

Quote:
There have been claims as of late that have tried to place blame of unsolvable text-only cryptograms on the Encryption Department. We here in Enc take offense to that. We have reviewed the code and the machine in question and have reached the conclusion that the problem lies neither with personnel error or faulty systems. In fact, the cipher is 100% solvable. It is possible, however, that the courier from the Delivery Department left the code key in an erroneous location, was accosted by our enemies, or simply forgot one of his many – and quite possibly overwhelming – duties.
Any further complaints should be directed to either Delivery or Human Resources.
As for the code and the misplaced code key, we have destroyed the code machine that produced that particular cipher in case the key has been intercepted. Please disregard any text-only strings. Operations Control has told Encryption Department that many of the messages sent with the cipher in question are of utmost importance. Because of this, operatives will be receiving new orders from new code machines within 48 hours.
We apologize for the inconvenience and, as always, tread carefully and put your best foot forward!

Pictures are going up on that same crappy site right now.

I hear you, however Arnold did say they used to be Centre Lot, who was on here and involved in at least a couple of ARGs, so not a total n00b.

Still it would be reassuring if there was any other routes into this. I think this could be a private wind up, esp as the person needs to know Arnold pretty damn well (car & work). I'd be pretty freaked right now in fact.

Having said that someone has thrown down the puzzle gauntlet, and in my limited capacity I will pick it up. Puzzle On Dudes!

Huh. Those new images aren't loading up for me, I can see the thumbnails but when I try to view the image it says "No matching image found" and then says there's only those 3 original shots of the code and box. Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem at all?

Nope, its the same here. The images won't load.

Might I suggest something for Mr. Rimmer? Get a Gmail account (I can send an invite if you need it). Once registered, go to pages.google.com. Its your own personal webspace on Google. You get 100MB of space, its dead simple to upload stuff, no ads or garbage to contend with, and I've never had it go down due to too much traffic.

Hey. Yeah, I was involved in Ares Station, mostly just emails between myself and Dr. Park, but I was there. I was also in on the Hanso Foundation ARG, a couple other small time ones, and tried my hand at some Perplex City back when there was that riddle that spelled peas or something like that. But the thing is, I've had 3 different names on these boards because I forget things easily and have transient email addresses, so the "forgot your password?" things don't help me.

As for being freaked. Shyeah!

I'll see if I can get the gmail account today during my lunch break.

Oh. I also attempted to PM an ARG for a promotional thing where I work at the conclusion of Ares Station, but it never got off the ground. I am wondering if it's possible that one of my compatriots from that project are behind this. Or possibly my brother; he's a tricky one. AND! I have a friend who is friends with one of the PMs from Last Call Pltoker (the one with the girlfriend who almost screwed the whole thing up *oog*). So any of them could be messing with me.

Also, that misspelling up there is intentional because they won't let me type the real word without being logged in.

That sounds really likely. Have you managed to translate the morse around the border of the letter you mentioned? Or is that unknown right now? Or is that "tango52" as well?

Here are the images: Using this link http://profile.imageshack.us/user/ArnoldRimmer/
when you click on an image it changes the ArnoldRimmer to arnoldrimmer just edit the link and put the capital letters back in and it works.

Arnold, flickr is a much better image hosting site than imageshack and is easier to use.

The morse code border seems to read

Quote:
...-- ..... --... .---- ..... .--------- .---- ....- ..--- ----. ...-- ..... --... .---- ..... .--------- .---- ....- ..--- ----. ...-- ..... --... .---- ..... .--------- .---- ....- ..--- ----. .-.-.-

which translates to

Quote:
3 5 7 1 5 ? 1 4 2 9 3 5 7 1 5 ? 1 4 2 9 3 5 7 1 5 ? 1 4 2 9 .

The .--------- character doesn't seem to exist, but it is ten dits and dahs long, so it could be two number characters together, which would be a 1 and a 0. So 10, I guess?

edit
-------------

If that is a 10, it would be the roman numerals from the box repeated 3 times with a period at the end.

Probably not helpful at this point, but 3-5-7-1-5-10-1-4-2-9 cryptograms to "Variations" as well as a couple of other words. I've tried it as a key word in a couple of places but nothing pops up yet.

This idea of the Enigma machine is interesting me since those ten numbers showed up again. I'm also reminded of the numbers from Lost. Maybe I should play the lottery?

I've searched on Google, but all I'm finding is articles written about the T52, not a decoder. Anybody have a link?
