Nation-specific cards
Split off from Barcode Recipe in Blue card forum

[Edit]Split this off from Barcode recipe as more of a general discussion point, cheers - MikeyJ

This is the first time I have posted on these forums.

The reason I am doing so is that I would like to say the following: Straight up, this card is impossible for anyone not from England to solve.
In a few other cards I have also noticed that Mind Candy is distincively British. I am having quite the time with "Taking the Biscuit" because I do not eat cookies everyday. (And I had always thought "biscuit meant cracker.)

Maybe this should have been posted in the meta section, but the question I have for posters from the US or continental Europe is whether or not you find it hard to slam your head up against this cultural devide?

Hopefully if there is ever another global treasure hunt with perplex city, they'll put whatever we'd be seeking on both sides of the pond. The game The Stone did that.

I guess I could have solved it like another poster did as I found two of the ingredients, and could from that guess what the answer was without needing the other two. (Note: I just answered the card and the word "chicken" is not required.) But I really wanted to use the internet to look these codes up. Eventually I broke down and looked here. And it turns out that they are local codes.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you do not live in Britain and do not want community help, which takes away from the challenge, this card is black or silver. Or at least would be if you needed to know all three ingredients.

At the very least I learn way more thean I ever wanted to know about barcodes.

EDIT: I reread this, and wow, if I was European, I would have no trouble pointing me out as American. I want ot be closed-minded, but this gap can be real vexxing at times when trying to solve an already criptic puzzle.

Just wrote a huge reply to this and lost it Sad so I'll try and briefly summerise what I said.

First I understand your problem but there are some american style cards (Alcopoetry) which my friends couldn't solve because they'd never heard of the beer
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Rolling Rock
.

This card ended up being solved by an email to TYJ Food to find out one of the products, which noone in the UK could have found out just by scanning the items in a shop.

A lot of information is now available online and can be found from anywhere, not just a single country (the UPC Database mentioned above for this card).

I think they are trying to deal more with the international divide in season 2 but not having many of the cards I can't actually comment yet.

Anyway, that looks like most of it, sorry its hastily written, I lost the nice copy. If you want to discuss anything I've said then you can either PM me or reply below.

Yeah, thats a good call about Alcopoetry. I know what you're talking about since I coincidentaly also solved it yesterday. I can see why people outside of America have never heard of that beer. Its not even that popular here.

But that card is still pretty red as there are two words, the answer, that have no buisiness being on a beer bottle. Alternatively, you can Google the following terms: "demetri martin beer bottle," and get the answer from the top site.

Hopefully you are right in that they are addressing this issue more in the waves of Season 2. Especially if Mind Candy wants that hot international sales action. Does anyone know anyone from Australia who likes perplex city and what they thing about this?
