A bit late (I have no internets at home right now) but here's the reply I got from WiR:

Quote:
Who: Think deeper. Who have we been talking about lately?
When: Longer ago, but then I think we all know when at this point.
Why: Certainly not an honest bob, as you so quaintly say. But money is at the core.
And secrets. But I think you knew that.
Where: Yes, it's Venice.
How: That's another big question mark isn't it.

Jimmy Durante was also known for a lot of songs and comedy routines. I'm not sure what help that'd be, though.

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, he was also known as Schnozzle, Snozzle, or Schnozzola. Maybe that's a key?

When she says "Money is at the core. And secrets." It makes me think of the movie Clue and how they were all being blackmailed to pay money to keep certain secrets from getting out.

And I would imagine that being a living statue, you hear MANY secrets/incriminating things since people don't realize you are there. Maybe there's a connection?

And whenever I think of Jimmy Durante, first thing that comes to mind is Frosty the Snowman...he was the narrator of the cartoon version and sang the song

A lot of stuff I'm reading here reminds me of the movie, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Not sure if it was filmed in Santa Monica, Laguna Beach or Venice.

Jimmy Durante was also in that movie, at the very beginning, I think

I'm not sure it helps much, but I received this email from the Woman in Red.

Quote:
Well, we know the answer now, don't we? But, the thing is, you need to consider all the questions. Espcially why? Why was Smith at Redentore in July of 2006? Why is Venice important.
Why is always the most important question to ask, at least that's what they tell us in the newspaper biz.

I don't mean to be flippant. I've been on the run for ages now, and I am tired. I'd go back to the midwest and hide among the cornfields of home, but now Redford is involved. All because of me.

As to what the why is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festa_del_Redentore

Specifically, in the 2006 Festa, Italy celebrated winning the World Cup. Why that matters? I dunno, maybe Smith was a huge soccer fan. (Or football, if you're not from America.)

Does anyone else think it rather odd that John Q Smith's passport lists him as female? Shocked

That's odd, but from the woman in red told us, most of the data on the passport (picture, name, ...) is bogus... So i don't really think if it has any significance.

Does anyone has something new about the text from the Woman in Red or the arabic/farsii text ? I have spent a few hours on the encrypted text and Jimmy Durante now, but i found nothing Sad

I've been trying a couple of keys. The way the text is formatted makes it look like it comes from the CipherClerk applet from the tools page with the 5 columns with spaces in between each letter. Possible keys I'm looking at:

"Good night mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."
"Surrounded by assassins"
"Ha-cha-cha-cha" (Probably is too short)

I think the second quote is very interesting as it seems the Perelli family is an assassin group.

"Hah-cha-cha-cha" reminds me of the cereal Krispy Kritters from when I was in second grade. 1984ish, I think. Probably not related, though.

Those were indubitably delicious... That commercial was a Jimmy Durante reference Smile

New post on Pinelli files

Hi all, been lurking for a few days and thought I'd pitch in. Have yet to determine whether I'm actually any good at ARGs myself - but at the very least I've enjoyed your work so far. (hi!)

Noticed a new post on the Pinelli file - WIR refers directly to Frosty the snowman (Jimmy as narrator) and the IMDB website. Unfortunately I can find nothing of help on it.

I have tried the Vigenere cipher for the coded text using everything jimmy related, and everything frosty related I can think of - no joy yet.

Also: who the heck are Ken and Angela?
Oh wait - this is a description of a 2004 film called Chemistry - according to IMDB. Not sure what relevance yet...
