I'm in the Friends and Family Beta.. playing before all other beta players, xD. Was a personal invite from KP/Bungie. Gotta love having connections.

It is a sweet game so far.

It's a possibility that there is no ARG or even any viral marketing, at least in the sense of the word we normally take it as. Since Bungie's fans know that there had been an ARG for Halo 2 which they enjoyed and since you never comfirm the existance of an ARG until it's over all denial of an ARG only spurs more talk about it. So when a weird string shows up on the official site or the GameHead host does a soft push of the Halo 3 ARG into the consumer minds, we jump on it whether there's anything to jump on or not. And either way, Bungie reaps the reward because there's a sudden influx of interest in them and their games again.

So, that was my really longwinded way of asking: since Halo 3 doesn't come out until fall/November (7 months seems like an awefully long time for an ARG to go on, doesn't it?), is it possible that Bungie only put the text on the Warthog specs to draw back as much interest as they could? By playing on the fact that we would all go rabid over the hopes of another ARG, I mean. Especially since Halo 2 for the PC is supposed to come out on May 8th.

7 months may seem like a long time for an ARG to go on. But what is happening, to me, at least, is that if Bungie is creating a Halo 3 ARG, then they are building up to it slowly. Think about it, 4 months of buildup, to get everyone they possibly can interested, and three months of actual game. I think it's a good setup.

Of course, this could just be the part of me that wants a Haunted Apiary 2, but, well, that is a humongous part of me. =P

I'm really surprised nothing else has come of this. If it wasn't some type of ARG, or something similar, you'd think they would have brought it up and said "That's just...whatever" .. Maybe it was the start of an ARG that was folded, or maybe it's still going on just slow to develop??...

Well if they were to do anothe ILB thing, I wish they would hurry it up, not to mention that they wouldn't wait so long since the release date has been recently changed to september.

I also hope the actual game makes it more fun to blow up a grunt.
I love the screams of an alien pig-thing in the evening.

If they hurried it up, they would have 7 months of ARGing on their hands. Wink

Has anyone thought to look for a Trailhead in the beta? I've been looking but haven't found anything yet. Maybe the computer screens in Highground? There is morse code that you can hear in Highground when you get close to the computers.

The morse code has a deciphering over at HBO (halo.bungie.org) Many things have been found, even Cortana's image/picture on high ground, on the computers.

I've been looking into OurColony type stuff to find a trailhead lately, nothing so far =/

I swear to God (or your preferred higher being), that if we get something even remotely similar to OurColony, I will be ecstatic. Maybe, just maybe...

Well, I can dream, cant I? Rolling Eyes

OH, and http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/h3b_morse_egg/ is the link to the decoded morse. Nothing much, look for yourself. ;|

I just noticed something. Remember the grid on the OurColony ending reward video? The grids when deciphered said "OurColony will return"..

Well look at the vents on the Xbox 360. They have a similar grid setup, with a few holes filled in. I'm not sure if they are different across separate Xbox 360's, or if they are the same. Might be nothing, but it just struck me as odd that it looked so similar. Also, the Halo 3 "grids" we see a lot seem to resemble those of the OurColony ones in the reward video.

Side view of 360... kinda hard to see the filled in holes

EDIT: Here's a story on the blocked ventilation holes.
Aparently they are consistent (the same) across every Xbox 360 in the pattern they form.. so maybe I wasn't so crazy..

There was a thread about the fan grids on the 360's just when they came out, in the OC thread Razz

I slept over at my friend's house at the weekend and pointed it out so, strange you should bring it up xD

I know that at least some of those holes are actually pieces of the "screwless" frame of the Xbox 360, but I still think there is more to it.

We need someone who knew how to solve the grids from the reward video.. not to mention the deciphering key!
