And everyone, sorry for disappearing. I've been checking in, but with the lack of updates, lately I've found that I really have nothing useful to say. But I'll be around.

same applies to me, ive been checking these threads at least once a day, but like nova i find it hard to say anything when we have so little to go on.

going out tonight, and i bet the CM drops something so i come back to find like 4 more pages of posts and the clues all solved. gah!

take it easy peeps. wish i lived in america. would be cool to meet up with some of you guys.

Hi, I'm new

I admit to being fairly new at this whole ARG thing, so my apologies if I screw this up in some way.

One thing that really stands out to me is that the response to Mary video pretty much departs from what we know so far of the Code Master's standard operating procedure. Instead of making a new video he overlays images and text on top of Mary's, which is something he didn't really do for any of Michael's. This leads me to think that we might be missing the forest for the trees, so to speak - hyper focused on the pedigree chart when there might be more going on in the video.

We've had the hippie imagery broken down, but has anyone done anything with the images behind Mary as she's talking? It seems strange (and deliberate) that he leaves all that stuff in; maybe they play a role in the puzzle too? The most obvious thing on the wall is a map of Southern Africa, what looks like a few photographs and some other things that I can't make out, but maybe someone with more advanced image programs can pull something out of them. She's also wearing two things on her necklace - a tiny cross, and a large symbol of something that again I haven't been able to figure out because her hair seems to be obscuring it. Anyone got any thoughts to what that might be?

On a side note, it doesn't seem particularly wise, when you're speaking with a very religious kidnapper, to downplay the symbol of his religion in favor of another symbol. That's only bound to anger him.

And that's the thing for me: more than mockery, I almost get an anger vibe directed at Mary here, as if he can't believe she's even talking to him. It leads me to wonder if this whole puzzle has anything to do with the Eric situation at all, as it seems decidedly directed at Mary (which many people have already commented on). Perhaps the "I didn't start this, but I will finish it" is directed at Mary as well? She directly challenges the Code Master to find something else to do with his talents, and he doesn't seem to care for the suggestion, so perhaps in his eyes, she started this little feud betwixt them, but he's going to finish it - maybe the specific who's who of the pedigree chart is designed to distract us, while he goes after Mary?

That's the thing about ARGs, you can't screw up puzzling them out. It's all a matter of synthesis.

I didn't get anger from his video, at least not directed at Mary. This has always been about Eric and getting him to confess his sin, whatever that may be. Rather than anger, I sensed he was cinematically rolling his eyes. She doesn't get his work. No matter, she's not the intended audience, either.

How she relates to the pedigree? Well, if we're assuming the left half is Eric's family (and it most likely is, since they're the only one with both parents still alive), any lines coming from her are obscured by the mask. I don't think there's anything under there, at least not important for the task at hand.

As for "I didn't start this, but I will finish it": we know the CM has killed quite a few people over the years, and we have to assume it's for similar reasons. My guess is that the people he's murdered have committed some crime they thought they covered up, something heinous in the CM's eyes. Perhaps it's something traditionally vile, like murder or rape, with stuff like incestuous relations on the outskirts. Or maybe it's something he finds morally reprehensible. He has a firm grasp on Christian theology, so perhaps abortion plays a part in his decision process. We don't know yet.

However he chooses his victims, he believes himself not to be the perpetrator in all of this. He is their confessor, they must seek absolution from him. He did not start this chain of events, they did. He will end it for them, and help them seek Salvation.

Boy, that was creepy. Very Happy

There's not much we can do at the moment... We're going to have to wait for the CM to release something else... We can't solve it if we don't even have half-a-clue for who is on the other side (besides the Sue theory).

-stares at the screen and taps his foot-

... The op would've never liked us waiting around... <.<

El Neil, I would so give you my Autograph if you met me. I really would. Smile

The being said, I got a new job as a Leasing Consultant, so it takes up 68% of my time. Sad LoL. I'm hoping to get a vlog up Tuesday. (if you've watched my last vlog, I took the job. Smile )

If the CM posts something I won't be here, Sad unless it's quiet at work.

But I think his last video was just to give us something to do because he had so much activity with us and give us a picture to drive ourselves crazy with-- to buy him time. The PMs not planning very far ahead. I hope this games not coming to an end. Well, I'll check back as soon as I can. I heart you.

I heart me too, and that's exactly what I was thinking. The PMs probably planned far ahead but hasn't done anything that he's actually planned - or so to speak... Also - does this ARG have a channel on the server unfiction is on? I want to set my IRC to idly so I don't miss anything major or minor.

But then again... It's been so long that I can't actually remember which sever #unfiction is on... Wasn't it like chat-solutions or something?

the chat is on: irc.chat-solutions.org:6667 Though I'm not sure if we have a channel....I've never been on it if we do... There is a link to it if you hit the unfiction button at the top of the forums... That leads to the main page ad all sorts of valuable info.... lol Well its Sunday He might put something out today. ...

No updates yet... And there's no IRC channel for the human pet as of yet - I'm on Unfiction (as Snooper).

humm if someone wants to make one. I can come ... but with my job I'm limited to when I can be on... Usually from like 4 pm to 8 pm EST... but this game is so infrequently updated there would be nothing to talk about so when left to my own devices I tend to piss everyone off... I am really anoying...lol

I've made one - going through registration in a minute - #thehumanpet
irc://irc.chat-solutions.org/thehumanpet

Edit: You'll be able to tell if I'm idling or not by looking at my nick - 99.9% of the time that my nick isn't Snooper - I'm not there and 99.9% my nick is Snooper, I am there.

I must disagree. IRC sucks. It sucks the life out of an ARG. The 3 people who have nothing better to do all day than sit around and deal with puzzles will hog all the puzzles/codes/solutions/ideas/theories yadda yadda yadda. They then take the new information and search out all the possible web sites/blogs/whatever, and leave nothing for the rest to find or solve.

This game so far has been a team effort in that players add individual thought to each puzzle, day by day and post by post. Not the effort of a few that happen to be online to IRC from 2-6 Eastern Standard Time. Who then scoff/trout/complain at those that dont happen to know the private conversations that happened earlier that day on IRC.

Please dont do this, to me it seems to solve the game to quickly for a bunch of new players still learning the ropes. The way it has been going we have a chance to discuss the solutions and try to apply them individually. This is a learning process for us. I may sound like a d!(k but snooper has made 2 posts and wants to take this game into an immediate solution situation. It seems a greedy idea for a new player. You think getting a solution in 2 days is fast, just wait, it will be 2 hours with IRC. This will kill the new players interest because no one will be fast enough to participate with the IRC players. We will become bystanding watchers of this game with no participation and then guess what. We will leave due to disinterest. This game has brought in a significant number of new players learning the ropes and expanding to other ARGs. The new players have been drawn by a new medium [youtube / add your video blog site of choice] and the "directors" of the game seem to be playing to us Newbs. We have fairly closley followed the ARG Player Tutorial in solving puzzles. This is a GIANT leap for Humanpetkind, that will create solutions to fast and disinterest players that don't get a chance to participate.

Please don't go there.

IMHO, this is a bad idea, for this game, at his time.

The time may come that the game/ [Eric] needs a fast solution, but right now too many new players devoted interest are at stake. The faster the solutions come, the more we have to wait around, and the more people will dropout or not be able to participate.

I appeal to the "directors" of this ARG, please let the moderators know your opinions. I appeal to the Moderators of this group, please post an opinion.

Hmm? I wasn't saying to use the IRC channel for a way to solve puzzles or anything - just a place for players to chat ingame and out of - in no way do I want the ARG to be solved instantaneously.

Oh, and the reason why I have so little posts is because I didn't need to post much in the past ARGs I was in.

lol the clues come out too slowly for IRC to solve the puzzles too fast. I know that I can't hang out in Irc for 2 weeks waiting for a clue to solve...lol

Llama has a point. one of the features of this game is that first thing in the morning you can check whats happened, post if necessary and then get on with your day. as i said before, theres nothing worse than coming online to find that clues have been dropped and then solved in a few seconds, especially when youve been making a point to check in at least twice a day (like i do) for weeks at a time, since god-knows-when.

these forums are the main point of contact for THP and moving the chat elsewhere will alienate the people that dont use IRC, as Llama pointed out. also, we make decisions and work as a team, which means we all need to be in the same place, with the same knowledge.

even if you dont intend to solve puzzles via IRC, it WILL happen, because the speed of the conversation is much quicker. the whole point of ARGs is for the players to go on a journey and meet people, not to reach the end as soon as possible.

furthermore, if we have pockets of people all over the place, the whole thing will feel a bit watered-down. its hard enough having two forum sites (here and FET), especially when people are posting solely to the FET forums. when they dont read (or are unaware of) the unfiction threads, it ends up being a right troutfest.

i say keep it turn-based, rather than realtime, unless the game calls for it specifically. that way, everyone can mull everyone else's opinons over and think before they post.

lecture over.
