It's not a simple substitution cipher, which leads me towards Vigenere.

Edit: Broken! As you suspected, it's a player. The text is from Perplex City Season 2 cards.

Quote:
The lift shaft is a little different to what you remember. It seems to be darker and smaller than before. The shaft is lit every five metres with white lights that alternate from left to right. Every ten metres there's a doorway and a ledge, and every fifty metres is a sign on the opposite wall with a crest.

Climbing down the shaft, you pause at a crest. It looks familiar - it has a geometric shape in the centre, with names surrounding it and a motto above. Sometimes the shape is different, sometimes the names are swapped around or changed, sometimes the motto is altered. It's possible that crests are repeated - there must only be a limited number of possibilities and combinations, you think - but you
haven't seen it happen yet.

Approaching a door, you spot a smear of blood against a ladder rung. You're not sure whose it is - it might be yours.

You step onto the ledge and open the door.

"Come in," says another raven-haired woman siting in a leather armchair. She's studying a piece of silver metal, turning it over in her hands. "Sit down."

You gratefully fall into the chair beside her. and she passes you the piece of metal. "Do you recognise this?" she asks.

It's as long as your forearm and has a sharp edge running along one side. The shape suggests that it's a shard that has broken off from a larger piece of metal; one side is dull and pitted, while the other is brighter and smoother. It feels warm, somehow.

You don't recognise it in the least, but she insists that you keep trying. After a while, you both hear a faint clattering outside the door. Someone is approaching, and it is time to leave.

You nod to the woman, and open the opposite door.

The room has the shape of a message. You pause to catch your breath and stop your hands from shaking and look around slowly.

Everything in it has a meaning and a purpose. The floor is tiled in a sequence that seems frozen in movement. The chairs and table are carved from dark oak, with ripples and curves and spirals etched into their surface, insinuating expressions and equations. You lean in closer to the table and see the pattern proceed further and further into wood, covering every space with its branches. In the few minutes that you have, you try to read a little more.

Somthing moves on the edge of your vision. It's time to leave. You walk over to the far wall, running your fingers across the tabletop. The vibrations recite a tale to your nerves, in a language you can't quite comprehend.

The door out of this room is made of glass. It slides open.

"You can't come through" says another man, blocking the doorway. You try to squeeze through anyway- doesn't he understand you have to keep on moving?

"I said you can't come through!" he repeats, worriedly. "You're not supposed to be here, it's dangerous. You'll have to go back the way you came."

You turn around, and without warning charge into him, knocking him over. The room- more like a corridor- is almost a mile long, with strange objects and sculptures of people you almost recognise. There's not enough time to look at them carefully, since the man will be up and running after you soon.

You weave your way through, keeping up a steady pace, and after a few minutes make it to the end and open the door.

Just for closure's sake, why is the key OSSULSTONE?

Yeah, probably a gamejacker.

For the record, a "heptarchy" is rule by seven people. Long live the Ordo Septenarius!
