It also might explain why they included the "HUGS danny" quote: people could google the phrase and find this unfiction thread. However, I just googled it, with quotes, and didn't get this thread returned as a result. Shrug.

Actually, I read it as an acknowledgment that it is an ARG, since we weren't quite sure yet.

Good theory about the quote. I think this thread is just too new to come up on a Google search. Doesn't that take some time?

The meta tag made me think about possible anagrams. Actually, next to OEAREN there's also an S missing from the next to last one. Can't find anything conclusive, though. Tried adding ORBITAS, which gives a far more interesting list of results but still nothing that stands out.

It's Latin!

I was reading "Brother Odd" by Dean Koontz, which contains a couple of Latin phrases. It flicked a switch in my brain, so I looked up a Latin translation and what do you know:

orbitas: bereavement, loss of children, loss of parents

So forget that planetary theme and solstice talk, it's all about the kids.

So if there's an anagram in "nomoreparents" or "oearen" or "soearen", I think we'll have to look in Latin as well.

When you look at the meta tag and isolate the last but one set "ntsnomorepar", you can form "pater mors non" which could be translated as "father not dead", which might fit the theme somehow.

"soearen" turns into "onera se", which could mean "to burden oneself".

ONERA, by the way, is France's equivalent of NASA. Coupled with the mention of June 17th, there's a 10th Spacecraft Charging Technology Conference starting June 18th, with several mentions of solar arrays and discharge phenomena in the program, but I'm sure that's taking it too far.

Wow. Nice work Schrijvertje. Very nice. Wink

It seems to me that there must be more. The drop date seems to far away. Unless, of course, the PM assumed we wouldn't get the whole Latin and France connections (Which I definitely wouldn't have. Seriously, nice work!).

It just seems like to much empty time. Not a launch date, perhaps, but rather a deadline of some sort?

High level of creepy murder websites, all I can think of saying is I'm looking forward to seeing what's going on. Also, I'm glad someone else remembers "Countdown"!

I don't think there's anything more at the moment. There haven't been any more changes or alterations in the source code, no extra messages like the one for Dan.

The websites which can be found through the hidden links, are way too elaborate to be made especially for this, so they are genuine and real, thus only to give us some background information.

Nothing which leads to a puzzle or something which requires an action from our end. June 17th is the launch date, now we're just in the period where they want to give as many people as possible to find the site and be intrigued enough to want to follow up on it.

1 day

I wanna ask Danman if he ever replied to that email asking about the date but I might be to late to be trying to dig up new leads. I'm new to this whole thing, I don't know latin or much about decrypting codes but this stuff is really interesting.

I'll check back to see if there's any updates later.

edit: taking a last look at the webpage I noticed that there are letters missing out of one of the sentences:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
before:
wake me up when you get home? I heard the solar flares are going to be great tonight_

after:
wake me up when you get home? I he rd he olar flares are go ng to e g eat t night_

the letters spell out atsibro which is orbista backwards or an anagram of orbitas which was discussed earlier. I didn't read anywhere that anyone found this. It might not mean anything, just thought I'd point it out.

*Sunny Hello to all from the Flooded parts of Yorkshire, Uk*

Please forgive my intrusion, this is my very first post though I have been intrigued by this site for moons, sadly all the games were well underway by the time I found it but this topic has intrigued me greatly.
I noticed on the email one of the members received earlier was the name jhendler http://jhendler.com/ leads to a pretty basic page which has only two links, one is to an article on solar flares and the second is to entries for the letter O in a latin dictionary. The page info reveals
TITLES jhendler
DESCRIPTION orbitas
KEYWORDS nomoreparents
On the page it states "...And, since very few of you got the bonus question (What is your professor's favorite number?) on last week's quiz, here's a hint: au (rounded)..." An au is an astronomical unit of 149 598 000 kilometers but I'm not sure what to do with that. A quick look at the source reveals the following "...Note: This page is designed to be a hub for my ACADEMIC activities only. Friends and family can now keep up with me on my BLOG..." Not sure where is this though, I have found a bio page on J Hendler PHD which has numerous academic links but no mention of a blog.

I believe this page implies, by alluding to jhendler's status as a University tutor, that jhendler is Professor James Hendler PHD.

Jim Hendler is a Professor at the University of Maryland and the Director of the Joint Institute for Knowledge Discovery at the University of Maryland. He has joint appointments in the Department of Computer Science, the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies and is an affiliate of the Institute for Systems Research. He has authored about 200 technical papers in the areas of artificial intelligence, Semantic Web, agent-based computing and high performance processing. One of the inventors of the Semantic Web, Hendler was the recipient of a 1995 Fulbright Foundation Fellowship, is a former member of the US Air Force Science Advisory Board, and is a Fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence. He is also the former Chief Scientist of the Information Systems Office at the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), was awarded a US Air Force Exceptional Civilian Service Medal in 2002, and is a member of the World Wide Web Consortium's Semantic Web Coordination Group. He is the Editor in Chief of IEEE Intelligent Systems and is on the Board of Reviewing Editors for Science.

There are legions of research papers to be found online in relation to his work on the Semantic Web, I've even found a picture of the chap but I can't believe that the nomoreparents thing is his handy work unless we have stumbled upon a project he uses in his academic life? Maybe the originator of nomoreparents is simply using his name/persona or I may simply have jumped to the wrong conclusion?

Not sure what to make of this all but hope it is of some help?
Best wishes,
Fizz

Welcome, Fizz.

I'd like to point out that "au (rounded)" could also refer to gold, (atomic number 79, atomic weight 196.966569), especially since the comment is addressed to PHYS students, which makes me think it's a physical science class.

As for this being James Hendler, Ph.D. (who, by the way, as of January 1, 2007, has moved from the University of Maryland to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), I seriously doubt it. I think it's a coincidence, simply because if it were Hendler of the Semantic Web, the page would be coded for the Semantic Web, as is his current page at http://www.cs.umd.edu/~hendler/.

Still working on the blog vs. academic stuff. Good catch on the source code.

Thanks for the welcome, much appreciated. I do hope you find the blog as it's driving me crazy and I absolutely agree that is a coincidence with a regards to the names. I'm still guessing that clue refers to the astronomical unit as it is a unit of length nearly equal to the semi-major axis of Earth's orbit around the Sun which ties in neatly with whole solar flares angle and the reference to Physics but I shall play about with the chemical symbol for gold also, might have more success with it.

another website

After taking another look at the source code I noticed that they have put a link to a site where Danman_d has posted asking about this ARG.

<http>

another useless piece of info but it tells us that they are watching our progress. I hope to see something tomorrow.

Still haven't found the blog, but I think this might be verification that the jhendler.com site is in-game:

Oh, and BTW, Google says, "1 Astronomical Unit = 149 598 000 kilometers", assuming "au (rounded)" is an astronomical unit.

I've tried every combination of that number Big Larry and got nowhere so I have done the deed and sent emails to those addresses in the Danman_d email, hopefully a reply will spark a development, though tomorrow should be significant. Interesting observation by hopingjune17 though as I had checked the source mere minutes before he/she did and that link was not present, clearly whoever is watching is responding quickly.
Happy Father's day methinks!

NoMoreParents.com is now completely blank, save for a little smiley guy on the title bar. The flares/ directory seems to have gone too.

Looks like something's comin'... Wink

As noted the nomoreparents site has gone blank though the jhendler site remains the same, the source and everything else remains as it was yesterday. Somewhat frustrating as it's Father's day and I have to go and do Father's day things but I shall attend to this shortly, hope you have some luck with it before then.
