New email from Hope and to be fair I got the response I thought I should expect in a TINIAG sense. I was hoping my charm might win her over but clearly it didn't (probably as I have none), rather rash and risky but I thought worth a try. I wondered how I am supposed to mention Schumann Resonance to a chap currently blogging about Serena Williams. I thought I might be able to tempt an email from her but to be honest it was foolhardy. Oh well, silly Fizz!

Dear Hope,
My sincerest apologies for sending another message so soon but I am in need of help and wondered if you could spare me a favour?

I have been doing much reading about an astronomical phenomena known as the Schumann Resonance and as your father is involved with this field of work I wondered if you would be so kind as to provide me his email?

Whilst I know you wish your father not to know of your feelings and activities I promise you I will respect that but I have many questions and few answers and feel a man of his learning would enjoy answering them as much as I would enjoy posing them.

I know your father has a blog which I read with interest but it seems innapropriate to enter into 'serious' conversation there and I would be appreciate of the chance to chat to someone of his knowledge and caliber.

Of course I understand that this is an odd request but I have no motive other than a thirst to understand a topic I have little knowledge of.

Here's hoping you don't think I'm rude for asking and will understand if you decide it is not the done thing.

My best wishes as always,

Fizz

I just got a very revealing message from Hope:

Subject: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Hey!
Body: I think I want to be a vet when I grow up. Or maybe an animal shelter person - like run one? Or maybe a humane dogcatcher that people call up when they don't want doggies to go to the pound. It's pretty silly, isn't it? Where do I find an internship to be a humane dogcatcher!?

Sigh.

My mom is gone. Good people die young, right? That's what they say.

Oh, he definantly teaches and he's got a doctorate but I ... it's not like he's... I dunno. It's not what he DOES. He's big into consutling for various big companies. He's done work on commuications satilites and like shields or something. I'd call him a consultant. A suit in loafers!

*hugs*

Transitions are hard, especially this one. Actually, to face the things that you're dissatisfied with is very brave. The real world can be disappointing at first, but ultimately it is what you make of it, and I really think that you have a good shot at ending up where you want to be. Smile

About finding an internship- it's never too late to ask around at places you're interested in to see if they'll take interns. They might or they might not, but you never know until you ask (or unless a place advertises an internship position). It might be that an organization takes interns but your schedule might not fit with when they want the intern to work.

You're going to college in the fall right? If you're unable to get an internship this summer, you could always look around during the school year and find the perfect one for next summer. Or (and this would definitely be harder to pull) you could find an internship and convince your dad that it would ultimately be better for you to take the internship and defer college for a year (a lot of schools are now letting students do this). It seems like this would be a pretty tough sell for your dad, by the way you talk about him.

Why do people think that your dad is silly? I thought he was a scientist.

I get what you're saying about parents being scary sometimes. Especially- excuse me if I'm prying a little- but I noticed that you never mention your mom. The nice thing about having two parents around is that they balance each other out and are able to discuss their kids. This dialog really helps parents figure out who their kids are and what kind of parental support and guidance they need. I'm sure that your dad has your best interest at heart, but the problem is he's a little fuzzy on what your best interest might be and has no one to turn to to get a second opinion. That, and he seems pretty old-fashioned and maybe out of touch with the way that _you_ see the world. Again, I'm really sorry if I'm getting too personal. I just have this weird feeling that I might be able to help you sort out the stuff that's bothering you...

Margot

So my hunch that he was some kind of lobbyist/consultant is confirmed, and now we know that Hope's mother has passed away.

Re: Marshal- it sounds like he used to be Hendler's grad student. It's not uncommon for academic rivalries to rear their ugly heads- especially when a student feels that his/her mentor is somehow compromising their scientific integrity (a la Hendler, if he is working as a consultant for big corporations and perhaps painting a pretty, permissive picture when he should be more cautious in his advice).

Exciting! I'm going to have to read up more on Schumann resonances and how all this stuff affects satellites and shields and stuff.

I don't want to call again. I think I should just show and go, "ta da!"

What Marshall's into is way above my head. It seems to keep him really busy. And he is *just* a friend. Seriously!

AND... I have a second conversation going on with her. If you've seen my MySpace, you may have noticed that I occasionally go on Second Life (pretty cool place). She initiated this conversation, and I wondered what she might be getting at. Now I know!

This harkens way back, but I'm suprised no one mentioned it.

Busy day exchanging messages, it seems! Wonderful stuff there. And there I was yesterday thinking we'd hit a silent period.

From what I've just read, it seems that the popular believe is that solar storms are dangerous and can disrupt communication networks etc. Hendler is a consultant for companies that make these types of technology. They're worried about the solar phenomenon, thinking they have to spend millions to protect their hardware. So Hendler comes along saying, "don't be silly, solar flares aren't dangerous at all".

Then there's Marshall, who's still a pure scientist and knows very well the dangers are real and everything Hendler is claiming is rubbish.

In the middle there's Hope. She has a feeling something's up with her dad, but can't put her finger on it, because both the Doc and Marshal don't want to bother her with the science stuff.

Now another mention of DJ. Hope knows him, he has played games. Old school friend? Nextdoor neighbor?

Schumann resonance and solar flares, check this out: http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/schumann.html

A very interesting article, in my opinion, and finally something which can be linked to our very first introduction to nomoreparents. I've tried to make a subtle change of subject on Hendler's blog Rolling Eyes without immediately namedropping Schumann, so I hope it'll deliver.

So many erudite posts to digest Very Happy
I agree with Schrijvertje that we now have a flavour for the schism between Marshal and Hendler and for now, at least, it appears to be an irreconcilable scientific axiom. What confuses me is: The only person within this narrative to proffer us a link to nomoreparents.com is Hendler. He used the term in the source code of his academic site. Whilst we have acknowledged that Orbitas has been used as a genetic marker if you like, nomoreparents certainly hasn't. Most of the characters when it has been mentioned in messages, with the except of DJ, have feigned ignorance.
If our only link to the site can allow us to conclude he is responsible for its creation why would Hendler create a site that thematically supports the exact opposite of his own Hypothesis. Namely: why create a site with a solar-flare-apocalypse ambience if you believe these things benign and overblown.

*THINKING ALOUD* At least we have some tantalizing information with regards to the Mother, it would appear she died when Hope was young. I suppose we can theorize with regards to the whole infanticide, filicide theme but I guess if Hendler 'murdered' his wife that would be homicide would it not?

Marvin Gaye was a murdered? Why did I not know this Embarassed

What if the mother committed suicide?

Found another interesting one:
Quote:
Professor A.L. Tchijevsky, a Russian scientist, prepared a study of the history of mass human movement compared to the solar cycle. He constructed an "Index of Mass Human Excitability" covering each year from 500 B.C. to 1922 A.D. He investigated the histories of 72 countries in that period, noting signs of human unrest such as wars, revolutions, riots, expeditions and migrations, plus the number of humans involved. Tchijevsky found that fully 80% of the most significant events occurred during the years of maximum sunspot activity. He maintained that the "exciting" period may be explained by an acute change in the nervous and psychic character of humanity, which takes place at sunspot maxima.

Here's the full article: http://www.borderlands.com/sun/sunspots.htm

UPDATE: Hendler took the bait, all right! He's asking who I work for Shocked
But, as usual, he's not elaborating.

UPDATE 2: Oh wait, he's decided to post something about it! This should prove interesting...

UPDATE 3: And it really is! Man, he sure went crazy about this. I already apologized for upsetting him Rolling Eyes

Cor Blimey Schrijvertje, that went down like the proverbial lead balloon. Man is he not happy! A well deserved round of applause for your efforts though and for your firm reply to Hendler's maniacal rant.
Mind you considering it was his arch rival that tempted us to raise the subject with Hendler can we truly be suprised that what we said did not bring a smile to the man's face. I'm actually a little miffed with Marshal who first seemed to agree to tell us a little more about Hendler but then clearly changed his mind and used us as pawns in his theoretical war. I have posted a favourable response to Hendler's reply on his blog in the hope we can salvage some dialogue with man on this most mysterious topic and appealed to Hope in the hope that she will further my attempts to open some dialogue with the mysterious Marshal. I really thought we had been given the Rosetta Stone by Marshal only to find out that the response is 'Hendler throws his toys out of the pram'.
Grrrr, one step forward two steps back.

Greetings nomoreparenters Very Happy
Sure you all know by now that Hope has updated her Youtube account with no less than three videos. Now we enter the DJ epoch, back to the mysterious name who lead us so 'blindly' to both Marshal and Hendler's web pages. Clearly these videos are retrospective, he wants nothing to do with either of them, she laments his absence but I'm not sure what we are supposed to glean from them. They interact in a very cosy manner, very fond, very personal but we had already assumed that they were a couple. I'm sure it's a subtle hint to approach DJ once more but at last count I had something like five unanswered emails that I had sent his way, nearly as much as my seven unanswered Marshal emails.

DJ played the role, initially, of confused, hapless internet wanderer who accidentally sent me an email that accidentally lead to a site and so on and so forth. Clearly this is untrue and he deliberately lead us there but his constant reluctance to 'talk' has left me weary to approach him again.

Guess I try all the same. Confused

why does all the cool stuff happen when im at work?

i think we need to who and/or what hendler works for to make him absoulute in his claims what exactley is he a doctor of anyway to be this intrested in solar flares ? and marshell too. i think those will help us out...which brings me too the videos she all about "DJ" a.k.a. WIGGLES?
apparently which makes me think Marshal and Dj are 2 different people maybe father and son. she was staying at "marshals" not djs remember. then outta no where theres Dj cooking breakfast but then she makes it sound like he just her in all her comments on the videos?????????

p.s.
fizz could you post the marshall/dj email again id like to email him too if you dont mind...

So DJ's disappeared... but he hasn't because he's contacted us...

So that means he left Hope. He kept her as his e-mail address, no? I can't imagine that he has any harsh feelings towards her...

Could her father have pushed him away?

I'm Still here, been working a lot lately. But I'm clear after Wednesday. I have a few hours tonight to get caught back up and read the last couple days worth of posts. Anyone online right now wanna chat on msn?

I had to change my name on YouTube Hope didn't like it. Apparently Hendler doesn't like drugs. But its from a song, and so is my new one (Bonus points if you guess the song) now my user name is Uppandaway

McGritts, what you see in those videos happened way in the past. It's some stuff she already had on the camera before this all started. Hope only posted them now.

DJ definitely is the next step in this mystery. We have to figure out who he is exactly and why he left Hope. Then we also need to contact Marshall and tell him about the Doc's reaction to the Schumann resonances.

Thank God we got some people here who have an easier time getting information out of Hope. I've been sending her long and personal messages lately, in which I'm totally being myself and talking to her like I would talk normally. I barely get a response.

Quote:
Animals are so like us sometimes. They definitely have emotions. I can totally tell when Princess is sad - which is most of the time out here cause it's sooooo hot!

and

College... feels like a million miles away.

It's hot ALL over California. I was going to drive back to Los Angeles and stay with a friend but I think it's just baking out there. I'd rather stay inside with the fans. I dunno. There are no good options. I think I say, "I dunno" a lot. Argh!

I've spent a lot of time going over my old tapes. I think I need to get this out out out out. Out! I miss DJ.

So she has a friend in L.A. as well (seems to have a lot of friends all of a sudden) and misses DJ. And she's hot. Literally.

Then again, we've all been sending her messages. Can't blame her for becoming bored and keeping it short.

I sent Marshall two messages these last few days, but he hasn't logged on since last Friday.
