He was from PROVIDENCE? Seems...so...mundane....

Hi All!

I mostly lurked/spec'ed a little in the ole ILB, and it's cool to see some of the names I remember from that still around these places (thebruce, I seem to recall a rather heated OT debate that we had Wink )

I'll hopefully be a little more active for this go 'round.

I'm in France at the moment, so I'm even more disconnected from the states with the non-electronic ARGing, but even Winnipeg got a package, so you never know!

I am a perpetual lurker on these things, but I thought I'd throw this info into the discussion. I searched all of the personals in the US and Canadian cities on craigslist for bseeingu and came up with this list:

Austin http://austin.craigslist.org/mis/311591739.html
Baltimore http://baltimore.craigslist.org/mis/311569124.html
Binghamton http://binghamton.craigslist.org/mis/311574771.html
Gainesville http://gainesville.craigslist.org/mis/311571151.html
Houston http://houston.craigslist.org/mis/311581432.html
Louisville http://louisville.craigslist.org/mis/311593398.html
Lynchburg http://lynchburg.craigslist.org/mis/311580382.html
Milwaukee http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/mis/311583433.html
Providence http://providence.craigslist.org/mis/311564036.html
Penn State (or State College) http://pennstate.craigslist.org/mis/311578481.html
Kitchener http://kitchener.craigslist.org/mis/311567561.html
Windsor http://windsor.craigslist.org/mis/311577207.html
Winnipeg http://winnipeg.craigslist.org/mis/311590898.html

I know most of these have been found, but I think there are a few new ones in there. Also, there are thirteen, and, as has been mentioned, all of them were posted on Friday the 13th (except for Louisville, which was posted 5 minutes after midnight EDT on the 14th). Seems appropriate in light of the black cat.

I am supposed to be writing a paper right now, but this is much more interesting!

Hmmm...I don't know if this is relevant, but check out http://www.cassadaga.org/

It's been a long time since I've played an ARG, but any game that references HP Lovecraft is a game for me! Wink

Woo. It's been a long, long while since I've played an ARG, but this is too interesting to pass up.

I know this first came up like seven pages ago, but I figured I'd bring it up. Leviathan is usually thought to be a Nile crocodile, and Behemoth is usually thought to be a hippopotamus, and least in terms of the Biblical usage. Leviathan is also a metaphor used for the sea itself, and St. Thomas Aquinas called Leviathan the demon of envy. The Leviathan became a common term for the sperm whale in Moby Dick. So... there you have it.

Finally, please tell me I'm not the only one who got scared and thought this was a huge advertisement for the new Bright Eyes album at the first mention of Cassadaga.

EDIT: I just called the number. It rang once, I heard a click, what sounded like someone talking (though it was barely audible), another, louder click, silence for 15 or 20 seconds, another loud click, then the operator. Anyone else have weird stuff like that?

I'm starting to see why they're called "ARGs"... it's not because it's short for "Alternate Reality Game". It's because that's the phrase you continually want to yell while playing them.

Ok, I know I've said that a couple of times before and failed miserably, but this time I mean it: I'm back, count me in.

Maybe. I mean, I'll really try hard.

Could just be a coincidence, but B.A. Saint from Florida has an Amazon profile and wishlist here www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A23MNK67ERT7OE

EDIT: found a proxy that got me around it, and a wishlist item is dated 2006. Looks like a neat coincidence and nothing more

Sadly, can't check shopping sites at work so I can't verify. Oh, and yeah. I'll be following this.

Cool HOORAY! I live just minutes from Cassadaga! Cool

After missing a lot of the action from Perplex City (which I love nonetheless), it will be fun to play a game that takes place right next door!

Calling her now! Very Happy

In the elder time chosen men had talked with the entombed Old Ones in dreams, but then something happened. The great stone city R'lyeh, with its monoliths and sepulchres, had sunk beneath the waves; and the deep waters, full of the one primal mystery through which not even thought can pass, had cut off the spectral intercourse. But memory never died, and the high-priests said that the city would rise again when the stars were right.

So it would be really entertaining if BA St. Feline were actually in league with Teh Evar So Fearsome Old Ones* and were just luring us toward disaster by pretending to be trying to avert it. Wink

*Yes, I know this is going to annoy the Lovecraft fans, but I read the Call of Cthulu a long time ago and got to the end of the second story and just started laughing because the big scary thing being built up to turned out to be...an octopus.

As the website was established in 1999, I don't think it's involved, but certainly an interesting read!

[INFO] images on bseeingu
tiger and tarot

For what it's worth, the image of the tiger on the main page http://www.bseeingu.com./images/body.jpg
is of this purple bronze tiger from the Qing Dynasty; at least according to the ebay, (oddly enough), site I found it on. http://tinyurl.com/37rrxc

Other than the Chinese / I Ching connection, I haven't found the signifcance of it.

Also, about the Strength tarot card... from this site, card number VIII is Leo and depicts "Herakles' first labor was to kill the invincible lion of Nemea."

So, it's all about cats. Smile

Right, I have no idea whether it's worth checking out, but this ARG obviously likes Lovecraft, tells the chosen mailed ones that THEY are providence and Lovecraft's inscription reads "I am providence"

So for what it's worth:

Grave of H.P. Lovecraft, Lot 5, Group 281, Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.

Also, a weird thought, but perhaps the codes are latitude and longitude? Seems a long shot, but the first number in the sequence never goes above 360, and the second and third never above 60. Of course, then there's the problem of matching them up...Just a thought: use it, don't use it.
