 The Story so Far
The Future is coming... Can you change it?

Once upon a time...

Some people found an odd site: http://www.deuscity.com/ With a video of a group of people working on something called "Time Communication Project". They were about to test their project when they got a transmission from year 2036. A link on that odd site took us to the blog of Adam L. Brackin.

Brackin was the head of the UTD Time Communication project. Their objective was to communicate with the future. Skipping some advanced physics and astronomic theories, the UTD TCP wanted to "connect" with themselves one week ahead on time. In order to do that, they needed to transmit at two very specific moments in time. On his blog, Brackin let us know about that, about time theories and about his interest in prophesy. For him that was very related to being able to communicate with the future. He also let us know about one of the members of his team: some guy he simply called Foo, who was acting weird. He accused him, among other things, of having created the site with the video.

The team behaind the project were waiting for the right moment when they would get a transmission from a week ahead in time, everyone save Foo, who had been locked up on a server room.

When the big moment came and they began to get transmissions from the future, they realized it did not come from a week in the future, but from 30 years ahead. A man who identified himself as Mustafa Tang Fujimoto, president of Deus City, congratulated the team on their success and sent them half a terabyte of information.

A little blogspot search gave us Foo's blog . He claimed there would be a need to stand for freedom. He called to action. Some people wrote to Brackin, some to Foo. Brackin accused Foo of having betrayed the project and fired him while the second accused Brackin of not knowing what was really happening.

The first five people who contacted Foo received a message. He said that was the confirmation he needed, that those five would be called 'Gatekeepers' and will have to help him protect some information until the right moment came. The gatekeepers also got a message Foo found it among the information the UTD team got from the future. He had some backdoors, so once he got fired he hacked the information and found that message hiding among what it seemed to be nothing but crap.

The message said Foo was vital for a place in the future called Deus City, an utopian paradise of logic and technology. It also spoke about the gatekeepers who were going to be the only people Foo could really trust.

Foo was testing everyone who tried to contact him from that moment on, giving those we knew were trustworthy a pass phrase in order for gatekeepers to show them the transmission from the future. Meanwhile Brackin got kicked out of his own project when some private investor called Defense Corp bought the project. He resented Foo for this and asked those he trusted to find out what was he doing now that he had left all his former friends hanging and was hacking the project without telling them anything.

Next we found out that the future president of Deus City, Tang Mustafa Fujimoto, was noone other that Foo, 30 years in the future. At that point Foo decided it was time to let everyone know the truth, so he posted a new message from the future on his blog.

On this video a man called Dr. Leviticus informed us that in the year 2036 the word is a chaotic place of war and violence. But Deus City is the last peaceful place. There, corporations rule. There's no judicial system and everyone has a GPS chip on their wrist so the corporations can track them at all times. They have given up on freedom in order to get security. Everything is under the leadership of Foo and a corporation called DefenseCorp.

He also gave us a site where the future could gather information about us: http://www.hackthefeed.com/. The site was originally locked with a puzzle, but once we could get in, it was a psychological test. Once filled out, you got three results: Prestige, Karma and Credits. All we know about these traits is that the gatekeepers got bigger ratings than the rest and Foo got 100 times more than anyone else.

Brackin was still trying to follow his former project, and he managed to get some of the information Foo was hacking. Among that he found a message Foo had overlooked: A man calling himself Brother Theophilus informed us that the future wasn't so perfect. That DefenseCorp ruled with an iron grip and that their doings would result in the destruction of the world on 2042.

Then Brackin had a nightmare about his own death, gave up on his blog and left UTD to go on a vision quest. In reality he just changed his blog to hide while he went looking for Foo. But he did have a change of attitude and now he speaks like a monk of some ancient order.

While Brackin looked around Texas for Foo, leaving clues and puzzles for those on his side to follow him, Foo posted a third video from the future. This time from Doctor Vishnu, a Time Historian who let us know about the possibilities and consequences of trying to change the past.

However, some time later Foo posted saying something odd was happening with the transmissions. Apparently he was getting the same messages twice, in different moments in time.

Then we found out that Brackin was visiting his former colleagues Alexis Wraight Rose Mandrell and David Maxwell the project, asking them for help to track Foo. When someone informed Foo about this, he let us know he can't move from where he's hiding and that he's starting to suspect DefenseCorp's real intentions.

Mailing Alex and Phill we found out that it was Alex who locked up Foo on the server room. He did it because he thought Foo had deleted some important files from the project. Foo denies that accusation, while Brackin seems to think the deleted file is very important to succed on his 'mission'.

Then, at last, DefenseCorp ended classifing the tests we've done and Foo sent the results to everyone. So those who registered got an ID where they were granted the place of Temporal Freelance Investigator.

Just so Arkaham doesn't feel like he's stuck chronicling the story, I'll try and fill in the gap between his last edit, and now.
Feel free to Copy/Paste this to the first entry Arka, or write your own if you want to Smile It's all good by me =P

Further communications with Phil reveal that he had been contacted by Defense Corp prior to the successful test-shot on 11/11-2006. Phil is still working for Defense Corp at a compound surrounded by barbed wire. It seems Phil doesn't know where he's being "kept" but from information he's given, and some serious speculation it could be in Florida somewhere.
As Florida also seem to be the destination at the end of Brackin's journey, it appears that he is hunting Phil and Defense Corp rather than Foo.

Time will tell.

Update of what happened in the past month:

Brackin continued to travel willy-nilly from city to city...during his time in Florida, he picked up a prophetic poem from a representative of an organization that was waiting for his arrival for over 500 years.

Alex found out his (extremely wealthy) father's plane crashed after dropping Brackin off in Georgia...this made Alex swear vengeance. He joined up with Foo in the efforts to reclaim Defense-Corp from its mysterious owners. Temporal Agents get their first mission, to send in a picture of ourselves (and potentially others) holding our Agent cards.

Brackin decides to contact Defense-Corp and reveal his location, following the instructions he received in the prophetic quatrains. Black helicopters take him away to the company, where he is beaten up by a guy Phil calls "Tiny".

Phil stumbles across the video of said beating and decides he wants out. He posts the real lunar test video that shows he started working for Defense Corp before the November 11th experiment, and hacks Brackin's laptop for us so we can find the location.

After successfully determining the location of Defense-Corp, Alex and Foo arrange for a corporate takeover. Foo assumes leadership of DefenseCorp Inc., Alex assumes leadership of Wright Industries, and Brackin and Alex went missing in the process.

Most of the updates are at the Wiki because the plot has gotten fairly interweaving...also, most of the current plot is (of necessity) speculation. The wiki is updated to finding Will Forth and slewth getting taken in by Defense Corp.

I'll see what I can do about updating the wiki...if someone wants to copy/paste stuff over to here, feel free. If someone wants to add/change/do it for me, that'd be even greater. Wink

OK, the wiki's story so far is as updated as I'll be capable of managing. Please edit and expand as you see fit. I'm copying relevant updates below. Links don't work since it's copied from....you guessed it.

Quote:

Stuff Since the Deus City Site Went Live
Interacting with the Future
Now that the interface has been made available, it is possible to talk with agents from the future. We are posed with a number of puzzles to help various agencies and departments in the future. New faces include Bishop, the Grey District handler, two Chris Browns (see the Cast of Characters for more information), Assistant Director Cheevy Prince, Father Beck, and slewth.

The Guardian Prophet and Father Beck's Death
The player Violet Nightshade made a number of posts in the Deus City forums calling for the destruction of the future. One of the characters, Father Beck, acclaimed Violet Nightshade as the prophet of the Holy Faith United Church of Cyclical Truth before being exposed as a fraud (that account had previously posted under the name "Farquar") and murdered. Currently, Father Ziodis the head of the Holy Faith United Church and still supports Violet Nightshade's role as some form of "chosen one".

The Slewth Saga
One of the agents from the future, slewth, asked players to Help Slewth. Players tracked down William Forth, someone from the present who knew slewth in the past (our past). After this, slewth was arrested by Defense-Corp and only recently was released. Aside from one communication between WillForth and slewth, neither have been heard from since.

The Omega Point
Father Ziod of the Holy Faith United Church, the replacement for the deceased Father Beck, gave BrumGuy a mission to decode a puzzle about the Omega Point. The puzzle was solved without revealing anything new.

THE UNION
Agent Hook, like Violet Nightshade, has elaborated upon the plot in a manner that has become accepted by the PMs. Incensed at the death of Mary Jansen at what is presumed to be the hands of the "God Killer", she took it upon herself to find Mary's daughter Jenna Jansen who was previously enrolled in a special security organization. In order to oppose this as well as the labor disparity in the Grey District, Agent Hook started "THE UNION" which has found its way into numerous blog posts and videos.

The Red District Cometh
Under new plans to expand the scope of the Defense Corp interface, two members of the Red District joined the interface: Detective Kropp, a recently promoted detective from the Grey District, took over the role of handler of the Red agents from Assistant Detective Prince, the previous handler. He is joined by Tara Mercer, the wife of the Red District's Senator, Thomas Mercer.

Ongoing Plotlines
Who Killed Alex's Father? (ongoing)
Alex Wright is searching for his father's killer. As a result of the I have some information for you, we learn that Chris Brown attempted to communicate with agents in the past to get them to kill Alex Wright Sr., but failed. He is convinced that Defense-Corp killed them. Alex Wright Sr. was a member of the mysterious and nameless organization that guarded the pieces of folio before Adam started The Brotherhood.

Where is Phil? (ongoing)
Although Adam had some interaction with Phil in Mexico (where he traded the Maxine deSauche folio for his laptop computer) we are searching for Phil, as excerpts from The Second Folio indicate he still has a role to play in everything. He will eventually become the Senator of Yellow District.

Find the Folio Pieces (ongoing)
Adam Brackin and Theophilus along with Ethan Sedgewick and the Committee of the Sedulous Amalgamation are both urging players to help find pieces of Nostradamus' folios that have been guarded by the Brotherhood (under a different name) for 500 years. Foo and Chris are also trying to find the folio pieces with the intent of keeping the pieces from the Underground.

Currently, two folio fragments are found (St. Augustine Prophecy, The Second Folio) while two are still at large: one in the Southwest being tracked by tCotSA (The Third Folio) and the other in Florida tracked by Adam Brackin (The Fourth Folio)

The God Killer Crisis (ongoing)
Deus City News as well as The Second Folio have been peppered with references to a mysterious serial killer wreaking havoc through the Grey District, causing malfunctions with subcue chips that shouldn't be possible.

Pie in the Sky (ongoing)
Ruberto L Seger (RLSeger) was a member of the Corporate Eighters, a resistance group with a high mortality rate originating in the Halter Youth Center. Later adopting the name "Pie in the Sky", he is currently gathering insurgents for unknown purposes while performing a variety of hacks on the Deus City interface.
