Totalitarian regimes like what we have in Year Zero don't just pop up overnight. To set up something like that takes years of planning, plotting, and maneuvering. Possibly all the way back to here in 2007.

It's Spoocheeeee!! Mr Alan Johnson was playing possum and the reports of his death were exaggerated. Spoocheeeeee rises again this summer (but without the power conveyed by the ancient disc) so they create a new regime that ends up with the totalitarian regime in Year Zero.

Cool Cool Cool

I think it's entirely possible that the ones behind the throne, so to speak, in Year Zero would utilize the technology that the pilgrims used to send all that data back in time to send a message to their counterparts here in '07, a warning that their pogrom was in jeopardy because of the pilgrims' experiment

This explanation makes sense, I mean the government was monitoring them closely.

Another good point.

I was thinking that the totalitarian regime started off gradually eroding people's rights and stuff. I'm not sure how long it takes a motivated and ruthless political force that is not afraid to use violence to take over and become a totalitarian government. This is a part of history I don't know much about, but it seems like Hitler and Mussolini came to power relatively fast. I know in Africa, places like Sudan and Sierra Leone, things happened fast -but I'm not sure if the government that ultimately prevailed is totalitarian. This is a good question. How long would it take for a democracy to turn into a totalitarian government? I think that the use of armed violence, what some of my activist friends call "weapons of small destruction", can accelerate the process.

No question that the beginnings of the Year Zero world could have started in 2007 or even earlier.

I think that the game is meant to open peoples eyes to the issues it addresses thus the links to current websites on environmental and political issues many sites now link to older data. the idea is that the "regime" has already started remember the game time line started in the past the idea being that the slippery slope to this future has already started we live in a society that is tossing away it's individual freedoms the scientists who live in this future send back data sacrificing their own lives to help prevent their time line from being ours trying to show us why we must act to divert the path we are on. part of the future time line is actually presented in two prospectives here http://www.anotherversionofthetruth.com/revisionism.htm via the flash puzzle. when he started noticing all this http://www.ninwiki.com/Neil_Czerno organized the murals whitch where inspired by "some scary shit on the web" thus the link to operation swamp000 and One Country At A Time the murals are created by artists now meant to spread the awareness of the websites just like the buttons given out at the listening parties. the connection to nine inch nails comes in the fact that some music sent back turned out to be exactly what trent reznor was working on now and it is mentioned on http://www.solutionsbackwardsinitiative.net/pilgrims/ that the musician is still alive(probably [classified]). an interesting thing about the banned text sent back is that it is referred to as key text a common term in encryption whether is was used to encrypt the websites while they where sent or is key text to something else i don't know. so theres my take on the time line.

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of the "OLOLZ BUSH IS TEH WARLORD!11" BS. I've seen multiple people get flamed for questioning NiN's album.

Just because you hate him doesn't mean you know everything in politics. Just because one is a conservative doesn't mean you're a uber-Capitalist corporate Christian. See South Park.

Anywhoo...

So far I know that the US has denied Woman's suffrage. Who the Hell is the president that allowed this? Do we have a name?

What about the other countries? Have they been effected? Is Canada, maybe, a communist ultra-liberal state, the polar opposite of the US? Maybe another country?

And are there any other features of this new USA? It appears police brutality (another thing that liberals love to rag on about) is at an all time high (one of the posts at Another Version of the Truth said the cops were beating them for tagging a wall when the Presence reached them) It sounds like Half-Life 2, without aliens.

I'm a horrible double-poster. OH NOES!

I thought Alan got his ass kicked by Mithras, Jesus, and Bhudda in a Handicap match and was forced to listen to a girly-girl song?

OOH! MAYBE... MAYBE HE'S PART OF THE COMBINE, AND ALIENS WILL COME TO KILL MITHRAS.

Sage.

* S: (n) warlord (supreme military leader exercising civil power in a region especially one accountable to nobody when the central government is weak)

That's not to much of a stretch from his position in Iraq right now.

No, being conservative doesn't make you a super right wing jesus freak or whatever. But believing Bush has had an overall positive impact on this country (usa) does make you ignorant.

Are you talking about the game here...

If you would have followed along you would know the events that took/will take place are world wide.

Is that police brutality comment supposed to be an offhanded insult?
Do you perhaps support this abuse of power and victimization of the people who they swore to protect?

What? No. I just point out that most protesters go "OMG COP SCUM" every time some dipshit cop beats up an innocent man. For every good cop you have two dingbats on motorcycles abusing it.

All we know is about the US. They nuked Iran and North Korea. They just focus on that, besides random accounts of The Presence and the Mining For Life one. That's all we know, the US is a paranoid, wiretapping bully full of Christfags (excuse me for using that term) in Year Zero. We haven't heard from:
Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Vietnam, the UK, Germany, Ireland...
We don't even know what happened to the UN.

Sounds like Michael Moore's vision of the US.

I don't think Dubya had a good impact on our country. He made it worse. Kerry wouldn't be of any help, either.

All I know is, the sonovabitches have me listed as "Under Surveillance". That freaked me the hell out.

But yeah, let's get this back up; Eldritch Errors isn't wasting enough of my workday.

Perhaps with the next album? Year Zero is in two parts supposedly, so maybe it will follow along with that.

Oddly enough, this post started a chain of events that led me to play Half Life 2.
