I found something on this here: http://museums.ncl.ac.uk/archive/mithras/frames.htm and google will probably churn up some more.

The v.s.l.m is part of the whole phrase:
Deo Invicto Mitrae votum soluit libens merito

Which invokes Mithras and means something about a fulfilled vow.

 		The VSLM is regarding what I posted a couple of days ago in the thread titled "BEG MITHRAS???", and the page I cited is here:

It is clear that in Mithraism, as in many other Roman cults, votives were offered for the fulfillment of specific wishes. In one inscription, a veteran adds that the votive is for Mithras having rendered him invincible so as to complete his military career, while in another a slave explains his financing the repair of a Mithraeum as a response to his having been promoted to scrutator.2

The above inscription was often accompanied by DSIOM or just DIM, standing for,

d(eo) s(oli) i(nvicto) o(mnipotenti) m(ithrae), "To the Sun God, Unconquered Almightly Mithras"3



(A votive was/is a stone or clay tablet that the inscription was made on and then hung on display, commonly in a temple, but often in other places as well. I guess in Higgs' case, a MySpace page is his tablet.)

Looks like Higgs (here, the dedicator) is saying that he made a bargain with Mithras and because Mithras fulfilled his part of the bargain (the benefit bestowed on him by Mithras), now Higgs will do whatever it was that he promised to Mithras.

(Look at me! I contributed and it wasn't a wild goose chase this time!!!)

ETA: Now we just have to figure out what it was that Mithras did for Higgs and what Higgs is doing in return? (I suppose Mithras protected Higgs from the Eidolon???)

Could it be possible? That we helped Higgs fight off the Eidolon? That BEG MITHRAS helped? I sent him that in an email yesterday when he was online.

/me swoons with the possibility of bringing Higgs back into action.

I was thinking today. Who should MrAJ *really* be mad at? Who *really* ended Spoocheeeee power? The Five were under lock and key. He should be mad at *us*, not at *them*.

Heck, in reality, he should be the most pissed off at me! Here is the last email I sent him on Sunday, Dec 10th, after I revealed that I had the disc:

 		I've been gone and this 'pre-game' has already been blowing by too fast and furious for me to figure out what's going on, but Mr. A.J. left this comment yesterday on my MySpace page:

The Mithras mythos that has been showing up all over the place would be the reason for the use of Latin, I would guess - from what I understand, many of the surviving Mithraean texts are written in Latin, so maybe it has something to do with that. Or maybe the Romance languages are just an affectation of AJ's.

First of all (big sigh) I am so relieved to hear from her. She sounds like herself. Maybe she did just run. Right?
(another big sigh) I am also nervous. What if she calls or shows up? Should I be worried that she's not really our Trinket? Can this Eidolon even work that way? I look at Ben and Higgs and they aren't actually functioning. Jayne says we should ignore the email and not answer the phone. Would love to hear what you guys think.

Ben update. He's no longer in ICU. I think I told you guys that already. Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but you know I tend to do that. So I'm grateful that he's able to be in a regular room with a view. In the afternoon I have the nurses turn Ben toward the sunshine. It seems to calm him. Not that he's a bundle of nerves. He still just stares off. I don't know, it does appear to me that his body relaxes with the sun on him. It's the little things! Smile

ps Happy Father's Day to all the great Dads out there! (I will refrain from mentioning the others)

It's either her or Betty (but TM vouches for Betty). We haven't heard back if Betty was smoking or not.
