Wahhhh! I wanna have a dream like that...

All I dream anymore is mild end of the world stuff...

I need new source materials for events!

Quote:
Fal mahdee wal hkaderr wal mustakbal yazubuuna kullahom fee hyo zotho

It may not be Arabic, remember it was in a dream. It could be a word jumble. Rember rational minds in dreams are really not all there.

Well I did find one site that spelled it Mahdee as opposed to Mahdi....

Most Arabic translation tools require an Arabic script rather than Arablish. I did find one site that was able to parse the transliteration and spit me some actual Arabic, but I have no idea how good it is....

فل مهدي وأل هكدرر وأل مستكبل يأزبنا كللهم في هوزتهو

...because I ended up with nothing but junkola using three different translators.

Quote:
1) Mahdi Wal Hkdrr Wal Mstkbl Yazbna's jasmines married them in Houzthou

2) So for beds [w'al] [hkdrr] [w'al] [mstkbl] [y'azbnaa] their fatigue in [hwzthw]

3) A offere jasmine come (hkdrr) come (mstkbl) marbles (yązbna) in (houzthou) .

Confused
...less than satisfying to be sure.

Here's a neat tool for anyone who wants to fiddle a bit.... I'm Arabic-ed out.

If it's Arabic, we'll probably need a speaker. If I was dreaming of someone speaking to me in Arabic, I would have no clue how to properly transliterate it. So our phonetic spelling (if that's what it is) will be useless to Google or dictionaries - it would be like putting in (looks around room) "up rodduck tuv deekoh kuhkohl ukkump unnie" and expecting to get something intelligible out.

Well I heard back from the same person who helped me here.

Quote:

Original: Fal mahdee wal hkaderr wal mustakbal yazubuuna kullahom fee hyo zotho

His Version: F'al-maadi wal haader wal mustaqbal y'azabuuna kullahum fi ....

"The past, present and future all vanish in ......"

I can't work out the last two words at present but will let you know if I get any ideas.

I have no doubt at all that it's Arabic, but badly transcribed.

So this portion of HPhack's dream would read [partially anyway] like this:

Quote:
This time I am alone except for the blanket of blackness and gentle rustles, but I could still know by the knot in my gut that I would never behold the blessed light of day again. I hear her voice first. She whispers, "The past, present and future all vanish in ......". Everything falls deathly silent.

quick google search pulled up a quote from the Necronomicon:

Quote:

Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is
the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one
in Yog-Sothoth
. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and
where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod
earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can
behold Them as They tread.
H.P. Lovecraft
Quoting from the Necronomicon in "The Dunwich Horror"

too many things in common to be coincidental IMO

"hyo zotho" could be a garbled version of Yog-Sothoth? Same with "vanish" meaning "all are one"

Oh, it's on now. It's on...

I agree and if you look at the initial translation this fellow helped with:

Arabic Speaker wrote:

Original: yakshof lana al majul

Hard to be sure, but if we disregard the vowels you have here, it might possibly be:

yakshif lana al-majaal

which would mean something like "He reveals to us the area"

You've got a sentence beginning with "He" much like the latter sentences in the passage you quoted.

In addition I just received this from him regarding that above sentence...keep in mind that this person doesn't know about the Lovecraft connection.

Arabic Speaker wrote:
Original: yakshof lana al majul

Going back to the first sentence, I have had second thoughts about the last word, which I think might be "majhuul" (letter J missing).

This would then translate as "He reveals to us the unknown" - probably a reference to God.

And then this in reference to the 2nd sentence...

Arabic Speaker wrote:

Original: Fal mahdee wal hkaderr wal mustakbal yazubuuna kullahom fee hyo zotho

In the second sentence, an Arab friend suggests the verb may not be y'azabuuna but y'adhabuuna ("punish").

So it could be something like "In the past, present and future they will all be punished in ..."

My friend has no idea what the last two words could be. We wondered if the word break could be in the wrong place but we still can't work it out.

I'll think about the third one. As a puzzle they are quite entertaining ...

And finally his latest take on the 3rd one I sent him:

Arabic Speaker wrote:

Original: ennahom yadunana abra Azif wa nahknu nastajeeb

I'm beginning to think these may all be quotations from the Quran, or at least something very classical. "Innahum", in the latest example, is a very formal, classical way of starting a sentence.

I think the Necronomicon, albeit fictional, would be considered a classical, learned tome would it not?

The other little tidbit I noticed about Yog-Sothoth, albeit small and tenuous, was:

Quote:
The Lurker at the Threshold

This is the name given to Yog-Sothoth in the eponymous story by August Derleth and H.P. Lovecraft. In the story, Alijah Billington describes Yog-Sothoth's appearance as

...great globes of light massing toward the opening, and not alone these, but the breaking apart of the nearest globes, and the protoplasmic flesh that flowed blackly outward to join together and form that eldritch, hideous horror from outer space, that spawn of the blankness of primal time, that tentacled amorphous monster which was the lurker at the threshold, whose mask was as a congeries of iridescent globes, the noxious Yog-Sothoth, who froths as primal slime in nuclear chaos beyond the nethermost outposts of space and time!

And I remembered that some of the red-circled letters were there...but not being even a novice on Lovecraft, I suppose they could be as easily attributed to Cthulhu?

wow you definitely get a cookie for doing your homework.

one thing that has bothered me a little is who this woman is that spoke to HPhack and the fact that the SO site seems to be down. can anyone confirm this? because it might just be my crappy connection.

Last night I dreamed that people had solved the red circled words puzzle and it lead to a sight with videos of B.A. drinking coffee.

I'm not having trouble accessing Sentry Outpost. I have been there a couple of times today.

OK, so Mkaos reminded us that the site went down on December 17th. Two possibly significant events on that day: first, Saturnalia starts. I don't know how that holiday features into the Lovecraftian mythos, but I'm sure it does somehow (he wrote a poem of that title).

Second, it's Saint Lazarus' Day. Death and rebirth of a guy, death and rebirth of a website.

Probably nothing, but I noticed that the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association received its charter on December 18, 1894.

I don't think it's a coincidence that all of the normally happy-friendly Sentries are a bit snappy today.
