Guess I haven't read through everything as thoroughly as I should have. Do you have that quote/link?

I love this idea - it hits me in the good spot. I think there's great potential with the high connectivity provided by the internet for a group of do-gooders to out-play the players.

Plus some stuff from Y2Kveteran

Sure thing. I was referring to, in general, the "Help me bust a Botnet" thread here:

http://www.sentryoutpost.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19

Basically, the original sentries in this thread are arguing about whether the best thing to do in a "black hacker" situation is to sit back and wait for proper law enforcement to do something about it, or to engage in a kind of vigilante justice--the argument for the latter is based on the idea of the "powers that be" being a bit behind the times technologically.

EDIT: Cross-posted with Jason above. Darn you and your super-fast Intarweb connections!

I'm thinking GetMEOut may not reply... Sad I was actually looking forward to talking about art with an IG character. If only to see if the person doing the writing knows his stuff.

They actually use this term above... A Black Hacker...

Hmm... I had my suspicions confirmed if they did use that exact terminology.

I think they were referring to the "Black" Hat Hackers and the "white" hat hackers. This is kinda the general term for good and bad hackers. Black hat hackers are destructive by nature, white hats are the programers who try and stop them.

Oh, I know the term... I wasn't always a writer of Lovecraftian Fiction... In my youth I did some righteous hacks and system intrusion. Now I get paid to do that and they call it System Security... Funny ain't it?

It just is something the way it was said... who had said it... etc...

Score! I got a reply! Should I go ahead and post the initial reply, or wait and see if I get more since I replied back?

Okay! Laughing Sorry, I wasn't sure of what was proper. I went ahead and took the stance of an Art student who thinks their preferred art-form is the best one.

Taluria wrote:
I was wondering what artistic medium you prefer. I tend toward ebony pencils and any paper I can get my hands on, myself. If I'm being obtrusive, I'm sorry, but I love to talk to others who love art. The majority of people at my school seem to be taking art classes just to get the credits, which I think is a shame. They are taking up spots that could have gone to people who love what they are doing, you know?

GetMEOut wrote:
This sounds a bit like a test, Tal

Question 1: What artistic medium do you prefer?
A) Ebony pencils and paper
B) Oil on canvas
C) Conte on coloring book
D) You're assuming my work is something you can frame or put on a pedestal and display

My work is performed in the public space. A temporary installation of myself, interjected into some stranger's life for a few moments. But don't run off thinking I dunk myself in giant spheres filled with water for days, or live in a suspended cage wearing only a diaper or something - that's bit beyond what I consider "provocative" and goes into what I term "batshit insane." I'm a little tamer in regards to the shit I'll do to myself, but I do try to provoke responses in my unwitting audiences

So I guess, in brief: I was one of those people you hate in your art class I had to take some of those courses in order to fulfill the "Hard Arts" part of the "Performance" degree, but I can't say I really loved them. The nude figure drawing parts, I'll admit, I enjoyed. And I do scribble a mean doodle now, thanks to the time spent in Sketching. The act of painting or drawing or sculpting doesn't appeal to me much, but I appreciate the final product of those who are gifted in that regard. Have you got anything uploaded online - I'd like to check it out.

Sorry to have taken up valuable space with my skinny ass -

[edit - split the info into separate quotes by each author so it's easier to comprehend who said what - cause i'm obsessive/compulsive - kona]

Heh, so he's a performance artist.

Hmm, maybe you should ask him how he feels about street games and flash mobs. Wink

Yeah, I went ahead and replied back with a post on why I sounded snippy before. I'll probably ask that later. I'm still putting out feelers.

Oh Lord, I hope he isn't a mime. I hate mimes.

Another exchange took place just now:

Taluria wrote:

Heh... Sorry if I cam across as a bit snippy on that subject in the last post. I had a bad day. Some idiot had decided to start a paint fight in class and it got on the preliminary sketches of the commision I was talking about. Not to mention that half of my hair was this odd puke-green color. I mean, I'm all for dying hair wierd colors, but only voluntarily. The joys of being in Studio art and stuck in a Foundations class. Rolling Eyes

GetMEOut wrote:

You didn't come across snippy at all - I thought it was funny And honestly, I'm laughing a bit about your puke-green hair story, too. Reminds me of this time I did a thing in the park, and I thought it really shoot up the freak factor if I used some of that fake blood shit. It got everywhere, man, and it does not come out. All over the interior of my car, all over my clothes, in my hair (ended up having to dye it gothcakes black), stained my face - I still have fake blood-stained boxers (I save them for the "special days"). So a little puke green hair is all in a day's work - a little filth keeps you honest.

And you'll get to Studio - school is like a circus - you're the lion that has to jump through the flaming hoops for the steak reward at the end.

also, he signs as, K. If it involves fake blood, I doubt he's a mime.

Nope, part of the personality.

Oh, to do the quote thing right.

use [ quote ="Talurie" ] (but without spaces between [ ]s and the words) will show Taluria wrote: so in the exchange above, are you saying you wrote the first one and he wrote the second? Cause it looks like he wrote the first with your name as the salutation, etc.

I think we can understand now why Y2Kveteran suspected GetMEOut to be behind the BseeU business. Performance art and all that.
