Ha, I'm not even playing torment, because I just... don't do creepy things.

BUT, since I am obsessed with J. Milton's Paradise Lost, I will say that Lucifer (Satan, Morning Star, Evening Star, the Adversary) is the fallen angel that represents the "deadly" sin of Pride. If it were me, the 8-letter key would by "Prideful".

Of course, Satan (post-fall Lucifer) symbolizes Wrath, so wrathful would also be something.

Man, reading Paradise Lost would be a MUCH better waste of your time than this game.[/i]

Re: Eight letter long-shots

How 'bout "Carathis"

http://www.grngecko.com/images/apage.html

Has a E A Poe connection, a Lucifer connection, and apparently a gecko connection. Smile

Apart from the "block cipher" possibility, another promising looking lead (in this case relating to grngecko's "shadow" clue) may be:

http://theshadowlands.net

dealing with "mysterious and unknown things"

[I believe grngecko may even have used
http://theshadowlands.net/places.htm in a past puzzle]

Edit: Or alternatively, how about this from World of Warcraft Quest: "... at the bridge near Eclipse Point in Shadowmoon Valley wants you to recover the Third Part of the Cipher of Damnation from Ruul the Darkener".

Edit: The photo gallery of "spirits" at the shadowlands website made me think of the Mars rover "SPIRIT" which carried an encoded DVD which was made available to the general public to crack. No idea if that might help and, since I haven't played Warcraft, I don't know if the "cipher of damnation" (ha!)is of any use either..

Unfortunately I won't be able to work on the puzzle at all for the next month (overseas visitors arriving)...
hehehe with a bit of luck by then I will have forgotten it ever existed!

/\ /\

Anyone played World of Warcraft:Quest? People like me stuck on the blocks page may well take a keen interest in talk of shadow valleys and eclipses in the context of a cipher given grngecko's previous posts on his forum.

Edit: My search on shadows vs ciphers has also revealed that "shadow" was one of the keywords for a quagmire (double-keyed Vignere) cipher used on the Kryptos sculpture for a "covert ops" fragment. Perhaps that sounds more promising (not that I have any idea how to crack such codes but people do calmly talk about breaking them in less than an hour, wtf!)

Fairly certain that WoW Quest is going too far out of the way. I've done it, but since I skip most of the story in the game anyway, there might be a hint there.

But yeah, it's probably too much.

so, i don't know if anybody even reads this anymore, but can somebody give me some help with the second "deja vu" page? i read the earlier hint, but i'm not sure if i need to translate all the text or just the word in the corner... (which incidentally, has text that looks more like hebrew than anything else...)

Now I am possibly where Mister G33k is, or thereabouts.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Neither the artist nor the sitter yield anything. Of course, it being a self portrait limits the options there a bit, but still...
Remember the hint I gave you in PM? That's how you solve where you're at. I'm at the puzzle right after where you are. Let me tell you, where I am is going to take a while.

Hey can I get that same hint??
I took a break for about a month and I worked my way through again only to come to the same roadblock...
HELP

Letter Blocks

Hi

It's taken me a couple of weeks to catch up to the letter blocks page, but I'm finally here. After looking at it blankly for some days the use of 27 symbols led me to think that the use of letter blocks is a reference to the cubical structure of a Trifid cipher, which I don't think has been suggested here before. All I need now is to find the keyword...

My only major gripe with this puzzle trail so far is that you can enter any solution text into any page and it will be accepted, leading to things such as the premature discovery of "look behind you" by giving the wrong answer. I'm resisting the temptation to try and solve that puzzle ahead of time as I am supposing I'll be better prepared to solve it at it's correct point in the trail. After all, 'Look behind you' might refer to the previous page, which we haven't seen.

I'm up to the page with the two photographs, one of the angel and one of a bunch of runes. I get that I'm supposed to decode the runes, but I can't seem to find a rune set that matches. Can someone direct me to a good page for rune translation?

Just logging in to say that I have recently discovered this trail and have really enjoyed tackling it. I have now caught up with the blocks puzzle and can say that there are enough clues on this thread to get there.

Funnily enough the easier ones with fewer clues because people just rushed through them often caused me the most problems.

The one that seems to have most people stumped is the red chalk drawing. If I may add a further clue - the answer could have been 'vindaloo and rice' but isn't. I think that the correct way to get out of the loop is to use the same principle in the next puzzle.

As for the blocks puzzle - well, there are just so many of them, it is difficult to know where to start. I don't think the colours matter as each letter is always the same colour and the colours, in fact probably the images of the blocks, are taken from the set that someone found.

The sequence probably reads vertically, because the blocks get out of synch horizontally. What we are left with is 25 columns of letters and their orientations. To add something to the sum of knowledge, I will transcribe these and set them out in another post.
