Spells out MAP. Just a coincidence? Could be.

Incidentally, those three CLs have the Arabic phrases in common.

Considering the content, maybe it was supposed to spell MAD as in the Mad Arab...i.e. Abdul al Hazred.. Razz

copied from the sentry outpost site post i made

Ok- I am double-posting this here. I posted it on sentry outpost before I remembered that people here asked for posts here as well. If I don't need to do this, please let me know.

Quote:
Well, thanks to my friend drizjr, we identified one of the characters in the story as probably BA's (or the narrator if it isn't BA) mother. She says "she carried me" when taking the woman to the caretaker; she mentions an old woman has a faded photograph of her.

I'm going to go way out here and speculate that her mother's death is a part of this story, possibly it is a death she thinks she could have prevented...and that the faceless angel with the broken finger in the cemetery refers in some way to her mother. Yes, I realize I could be totally wrong, but there is a powerful thing happening with that figure in the cemetery. Should this be one for the bet thread? Wink

Also, I think this is a hint to us to get moving on figuring this out:

Quote:

Outside, nobody is thinking. They're just standing there looking. Just standing there waiting for something to happen and for someone to tell them what to do. It's unsettling and, as nothing happens, panic and chaos will take over

As long as I am going to post my speculative ideas here's another one:

Quote:

It's a remarkable site. A dozen people, maybe more, have passed by me since I first noticed it. Each of them is headed up that way. Curious, I watch as they walk in reverent silence staring in awe at the site ahead of them

Now she uses the word "site" when I think she means "sight." And, as she is talking about a tower, which is a sentry outpost, I wonder if she could be referring to this site? We - the new forum members-went ahead of her to this site. And it is awesome, no doubt. (Could be a hint to another site? But with the word "tower" ? Again, time will tell.)

And then there is:
Quote:

When I finally arrived at the top and the tower was fully in view, I was blocked by you. You stood in front of me and placed your hands on my shoulders. You probed me for answers but there were none to give.

I had no purpose.
I had no intent.

I was there.
I was curious.

I wanted to see.
I wanted to know.

You were the guardian of the hillside and you would not let me pass.

Could this refer to some of the discussion here about her intent in sending the packages? Or maybe we need to solve something so she can move on? Or is there something else- what do the sentries here prevent from passing the gate?

I like the spec about "site" = Sentry Outpost.
There is a tower on their graphic (across a lake)???

Someone points to the tracks but nobody listens. They can't be trusted. They know too much. They don't know enough.

I speak up. I point to the tracks. Some follow. Some don't. The decision is theirs. The decision is ours. We say farewell and go our separate ways.

Quote:
The tracks are long deserted. The last train to run down them was over thirty years ago. And while the trains no longer run, it's a clear path out of the city, one of the many that lead to the hills in the distance. This is no shortcut, but it's a peaceful journey as the sounds of the city fade behind us. Off in the distance we see a car driving down the old country roads. Where it's going isn't clear. People want to wait for it hoping that it's heading this way. It's foolish to make the journey on my own so, reluctantly, I head back towards the city to find others.

I think these posts from April 25th are comments about us playing the game. I think that she is trying to lead us but we aren't following so she has to go back.

Quote:

Now this is interesting, I think she is saying that someone had or suggested a solution to a puzzle but we didn't follow it. We got sidetracked (maybe even by the Craigslist posts) waiting for something else to come along.

I guess I need to look back through the suggested solutions to the circled words puzzle and see what she may have been talking about.

Edit to add: Is this what she is talking about? This is from j5

Could the red circles be laid over the pages with no words circled to grab extra words?

11 circled words, 11 missing pages....coincidence...probably.

Can someone check?

Now *that* is some darn good speculation!

Here's my thoughts on that last part... Perhaps the "guardian of the hillside" is the Sentries, who are guarding the "tower." Thinking just a bit about what the Sentries seem to do, perhaps the above quotes are describing something that happened when B.A. decided to try to hack into the tower. She noticed other people going to this site, and she was just curious, but the Sentries blocked her way. (and something bad happened? the server crash? an Elder One was unleashed?)

Perhaps we need to keep gaining the trust of the Sentries (sigh) so that they will tell us what they are guarding...

I don't think so.
Looking at the other post from 04-27:
Quote:
I make my way towards the hills on the other side of the lake. There's a small cave hidden behind the rocks. Lonely, I call for you to follow - a gesture done in vain. You're too busy chasing your own tail, running in circles... enjoying the peace. I enter the cave. I hear the scream.

There are, however a couple of posts from OSs (Original Sentries) that suggest calling the number and leaving a message. Considering that the main site (BseeingU) has that as the only way to interact with the main character, I would guess that is what we are supposed to be doing.

[spec] She could be harvesting phone numbers for callback..maybe we should also leave our preferred numbers on the message. (would that give them the needed legal permission to call us?)

This is probably rubbish but, when she mentioned 'blocked my way' I too thought of the SO guys, what if they blocked her IP address so she cant get on the 'site' ?

Can we try it anyway? The post from 4-27 about running in circles came after we were sidetracked on the first letter of the word tack.

Also, lots of the 4-27 posts mention circles which makes me think they are important. There is one that talks about circles within circles and one with the vultures circling and then again them circling around a body.

You know we haven't solved most of the items that were in the packages. I think they are essential.

This is a great idea, we should at least ask them. You want to post this cissmaice? I've been posting in every thread and it is starting to look like a one person show over there.

Sure, I'll have a run at it later tonight unless someone beats me to it.
Tieum on the SO had a good start, it seems.

So whatever happened to the "first letter of the first word" idea someone had? Wasn't that making good progress?

In regards to the IP blocking Mkaos replied with:

Quote:
I don't know Sad

I looked at the Administration Panel, and there aren't any blocked IP addresses. That's probably just for the forum. Themagician hasn't told me that he's blocked any IP addresses from the website.

Doubt this is even worth mentioning, but there is an angel statue in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City that has some missing digits and alot of superstitions surrounding her, including madness and death.

She's called the Black Angel (or B.A. for short... Wink )

Quote:
Another tells of a young man who used a hacksaw to cut the thumb off the Angel (and indeed a thumb and a few fingers are missing) who basically lost his mind and was eventually found dead in the Chicago River. His cause of death was strangulation, and the sole piece of evidence was a single thumbprint on his neck. Days later, a caretaker supposedly found a blackened piece of bronze in the shape of a thumb at the base of the Black Angel monument.
