While we're in that area:
Angel Memorial House, 149 Avenue B - New York, NY 212-228-4330 East Village.

It looks like it's at the North East corner of Tompkins Square Park, between E 9th St and E 10th St on Ave B.

It's a mission house - but that's about the only angel reference I can find for the area.

edited to add:

There's also a bar called Asylum over at 149 Bleecker St - it's about half a mile from where we're talking about - but if you head east along Bleeker St and cross Broadway, you're basically at the end of E 2nd St.

Crossing B

Waiting for the light, you ask if I'm lost. I try to explain that I lost a friend and thought he might be here. As we cross, you point up the street to the red awning.

"Ask for Nicole. She knows things."

You walk into your deli and I continue along second.

Nicky's ?

Can't find it at the moment, but still searching for it. There's a cl posting that mentions going into a deli with 2 tables. the description of Nicky's on the link you posted says it has 2 tables.

I wander up the street making myself at home in the shadows. You grab me just outside of a little Vietnamese place. The gaunt expression on your face says it all.

I open the door, the stench is almost overwhelming. The restaurant is tiny and two tables fill its space. A welcome feeling of claustrophobia surrounds me. If I can feel this, then just maybe I'm not a part of the madness. I order a sandwich and sit down at the open table. I look over at the other - three friends with two that don't seem willing to speak to each other. It's tense and my I try to imagine what horrors they've seen. What could be so bad as to divide friends?

Holy cow! A South African Craiglist! Cape Town, though, which is not anywhere near Johannesburg *fingers crossed*.

Stupid question, but are the craigslists still receiving packages?

Anybody here from CT? And how on earth did BA get your address? (apart from being, you know, psychic)

First of all, #13: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mis/325091743.html

Also, it's a bit outside the area, but I did find a "Garage Restaurant & Cafe" at 99 7th Ave S just off Bleecker and about a quarter mile west of the Asylum bar you found. What makes me think to mention it is the fact that the facade looks somewhat similar to the "GARAGE" in the watercolor:

Anyone close enough to give it a visit if we figure out where?

Yes.

EDIT: I checked the watch this thread icon. So if you need someone to go to a location, if someone posts it here I will get it.

And good work everyone. Very Happy I knew she was from New York - but I wasn't able to get the connection to a real place....maybe also her dream is so freaky that I don't want it to be here. Smile

Just thinking a little more about that wall she mentioned in a CL, about people leaving messages....and the ashes.

Could it be something like a memorial wall for 9/11? Something akin to this:

Quote:
Everywhere, it seems, there are the posters put up by friends and relatives of the missing. Most feature photographs, and some mention the company a person worked for and what floor he or she worked on. The entire wall of a pizzeria at 6th Avenue and 11th Street is covered with them, and dozens of people peer at them, many with tears in their eyes.

WOW well done guys!
This all makes perfect sense. Especially with the ashes, and the missing posters for 9/11.

Not to go all meta on you guys or anything - but do you think they would incorporate 9/11 into a game? I understand about the reference to memorials.

Also, you know, the mentions of fire fighters have reminded me of 9/11.

Yea, that seems *really* unlikely and would take this game in a whole new uncomfortable direction.

If we were going to plan some real-life scouting, there seems to be these suggestions in the recent CLs:

Quote:
Waiting for the light, you ask if I'm lost. I try to explain that I lost a friend and thought he might be here. As we cross, you point up the street to the red awning.

"Ask for Nicole. She knows things."

Even though Nicky's has a red awning, I'm not convinced that the Vietnamese restaurant is the same as "Nicole" who seems to be a person. I haven't been able to find a name for the Palm Reader at 168 E. 2nd Street, but that sounds like the kind of person who might "know things."

Quote:
I go to see for myself. I try to open the door. It's locked. Hours of operation: 10am - 2am. I look at the time, it's 2:15.

I wonder, will I ever be able to touch this place again?

Awfully specific, don't you think? Also, it sounds like the guy left a package at the tarot lady's.

Quote:
You know what to do. You will get someone to go. They will walk in the shop. Her ears will perk up when they mention my name. She will hand them a note which I will never read and part of me will never hold.

So is "she" Nicole?

So either a) go to Nicky's or b) go to the Palm Reader or c) hang out at the corner of 2nd and B and see what happens. Smile

Also, there's this:
Quote:
I continue to walk. A long haired white cat comes rushing towards me - an old friend, perhaps, but not the one I'm looking for. Flames rise up on my left. Ginsberg's Howl still lingers in the air. My pace quickens.

At the same address where Ginsberg used to live (170 E. 2nd), there is now a bar called the "Flame Job." Is that the 'flames rise up' part? And did anybody mention a white cat in their dreams they left on VM?

maybe only to make sure we know that it is NYC. I hope, it's just a clue and not the way the story's going

I can't get down there tonight, but I may be able to scout it out tomorrow. It isn't the best neighborhood but I can at least check out what is there.

if I can't go tomorrow I can definitely be there Monday at 10:00am.

I'm looking for EGo or bagsbee to see if they can go.

Wow guys, great work!

There's also a 'Graceland' at 24 Ave A, which explains our Elvis sighting. Should we be plotting these points and figuring our the order of these posts so we can see if she really ends up at the palm reader. It sounds like she's left a package there, but it's in the middle of all the other destinations she's passed.

If Rose can't make it or feels like company, I work a short walk from all of these destinations.

Hey I always like company, the more ARGers the better. If you or anyone can go there tomorrow or Monday, go ahead and get the package! Don't wait for me. Smile
