First of all, a new one: http://bangladesh.craigslist.org/mis/329357079.html

Wow, we aren't doing so well. Sad

warning a bit of a rant here
Yea, this is starting to annoy me. I don't like the guilt trip that the PMs are pulling here -- Yes, we get it; you think we are being too timid or reluctant or whatever. Speaking for myself, I simply don't feel like calling a phone number and leaving fake dreams. One discovers playing these games what forms of interaction you like and what forms you don't like, and so I guess I've learned something here. On a more meta level, I have a problem with the fact that there doesn't seem to be a goal (yet?) other than to blindly follow whatever twisted path BA is concocting. No motivation for *why* we should help her has been forthcoming (yet?). As cliche as it is in ARGs, sometimes a good ol' "save the cheerleader, save the world" plot is *really* effective. Maybe it's coming -- if so, I hope it's soon.

Do you think we have to leave the finger somewhere for BA?!

I run up the street and turn the corner hoping to catch up with the crowd of people asking about the angel. They must know something. They may even have her finger. The street is crowded with people, but I don't see them anywhere. I run into the coffee shop - the only place alive on this corner. They aren't there. Did I miss them or did I imagine them?

I'd be willing to do this if we get more detailed instructions. Right now there's just not enough details to really work with. The SLC library is a huge 4 (maybe 5?) story building and if my memory serves me correctly, there aren't any steps up to the entrance at all.

This sure sounds like what happened yesterday when we found the 1031, 1313 and 5217 ports ...

Quote:
You: Screaming

Me: Covering my ears

The frenzied crowd charges forward as soon as the door opens. I shove my way through them hoping that the stairs will be quicker. A subtle drone invades my ears growing more intense as I move down the hall. The place seems to be alive. Vibrating. Pulsating. Breathing. People gather in groups, spilling out of the rooms, the largest at 1217. Hundreds of people. Planning an attack? Curious, I look at the door. Xé:3a.

A piercing scream penetrates the air.

I run to the stairs.

I'll bseeingu
BA

* A bunch of us tried the ports as soon as they were discovered. (She thinks we're planning an attack? SO does want to stop whatever process is taking up 9TB)

* "the largest at 1217" There's a large amount of text on 5217 (1217?)

* The title of the CL is "1217 Chorazos" - The end of the text on 5217 is "error: choraz terminate"

* "Curious, I look at the door. Xé:3a." - a hint that we should be looking at the text on 5217 some more?

I have to agree with Eggnog, I wouldn't know where to go there. I go to the library about once a week, so it is no problem. I can look around, but not sure what to look for. As far as stairs, they are all on the inside, except for some that go to the gardens on the roof. I'll look, but not sure what to look for. Hope I don't get rolled by bums. LOL!

So what's in Harrisonburg?

Except for the first, all the H-burg CLs mention the angel.

Here's the "You" lines from the H-burg listings:

Muttering. Murmuring. Growling
At the statue
Prowling around

In the Village in the City
Stalking

Stalking me

..... Dunno just a thought, Lord knows I've had enough of them leading me absolutely nowhere.

Forgive me if this is disjointed, I am not a forum ninja like some I've seen,

Did someone here do something that could have produced that? Did someone else? Or did Wayne just do too much? Must be able to replicate that.
From here

[wild spec] I wonder if there is a way to do a combined "attack" back on these ports, that could, well I don't really know what results would be. This post does seem to lead us somewhere though, that and that crappy CL about the timid, growling dog. Thoughts?

Hrm, very interesting. All of the Harrisonburg posts (why in the world Harrisonburg?) are w4m and mostly contain Arabic speech, and in some cases seem to be directed at a cat (lots of sneaking/stalking/rubbing).

So the "you" for the Harrisonburg posts seem to be a male (black?) cat who speaks Arabic/Cthuvian.

I lack the motivation to search the text of all the previous CL posts, right now...
But that sounds very familliar.

Also... I see no point in calling BA as it just adds to the already overly cryptic collection of randomness.

I guess I'm just not too good with the metaphysical stuff and really have little desire to continue down the road presented to me, which, so far, amounts to interpreting guesses about interpretations.

A month into this, and we really haven't "learned" anything.
i.e.: Are we the dog? The cat? What does the gate signify? The angel?
All we can do is guess.

One interpretation of the CL posts is that we aren't doing too well.
<Dream>
Before me, a mirror rises up out of the mud. I need to clean it to see what it I know it wants to reveal to me. Around me... Nothing but mud.
</Dream>

Maybe we aren't doing very well.
Maybe it's not us.

If the game is designed with hundreds of elements that won't congeal into something for a few more months, that's fine.
But if the PMs think we're holding up the game and wanna guilt us into working harder, it may backfire.

You know, we could be the Dog AND the Cat.

Has anyone mentioned 'Familiars' yet?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar

Quote:
The most common species identified as familiars are cats, particularly black cats, owls, dogs, and sometimes frogs or toads.

Generally familiars are good souls, they have been known to help people at difficult times in life, many people have reported a stray cat or dog, just appearing on their door step when they have suffered a loss, then when they have gotten over the grief, the animals vanish.

Its really interesting.

http://paganwiccan.about.com/cs/animals/a/familiars.htm

You can find alot about it online. And Im sure some of the CL's have mentioned 'familiars' or 'familiar'

Edit: Oh wow look what I found:

Crickets are also Familiars

Quote:
The appearance of Cricket is your life heralds an awakening of sensitivities
and finding light within the dark.
Dreams become more clairvoyant.
Trust in your intuition – it is more accurate than you believe.

Make sure to stay grounded and balanced while exploring
your intuition and psychic abilities.
The appearance of Cricket might also be a reminder than you are using psychic powers without proper grounding.

In China, the Cricket symbolizes a fighting spirit.
In England, it is considered good luck to find a cricket on the hearth.
Crickets were believes to be familiar who watched over and
guarded the home's occupants.

[META]

From the latest post by HPHack (currently unlinkable), it looks like the PMs have relented and allowed dream submissions through replies to CL, though phone-in is the preferred method.

[SPEC] Are our voices going to be used to formulate a Cthulu summoning chant at some point later in this "game"?

Speaking of cats, I wanted to point out a couple of weird things about the most recent Cairo Craigslist:

Quote:
You: Breaking the news
Me: Changing the wall

I walk along the wall looking for my initials. Hundreds of names. Hundreds of paintings. Blurring into each other. Building off one another. Emergent art in a dying city.

I'm shocked by the sheer number of cats people have drawn. All different. Cats are a common site here and growing more common every day. I suppose it's understandable. Owners flea. Cats escape - to taste freedom, to search for food, to get a little action.

Remember kids: Have your pets spayed or neutered.

At the end of the wall is a woman covered in blood searching for a name. A loved one, I suppose. I hear her ask you for help. Asking if you know who she's looking for. There's always fear in that question. The hope that they'll know, but the fear of what you'll find out.

The longer I look, the more I understand that feeling.

Finally, I see it. Surrounded by a half a dozen cartoon cats.

I changed the wall.

Aside from the odd Price is Right joke of "Have your pets spayed or neutered," there are two apparent typos: 'site' and 'flea.' One seems possible, but two in the same post?

We've seen the 'site' typo before, in the Budapest Craigslist:

Quote:
As I wipe my hands across the grass, I see the old tower up on the hill. If it weren't so aged, I would have thought someone was trying to start a new city out of the ashes of the old - this tower evidence of their grand plans. The moonlight catches it as it pierces through the smoke. It is no wonder that a crowd is gathering. It's a remarkable site. A dozen people, maybe more, have passed by me since I first noticed it. Each of them is headed up that way. Curious, I watch as they walk in reverent silence staring in awe at the site ahead of them.

In retrospect, it seems probable that this was talking about the SentryOutpost website, which was rising out of the old site, and where we were 'gathering.'

So is there another cat/drawing/cartoon/wall website somewhere? Maybe it relates to DC and his drawings, which seem to include cats? Or is this just a typo?

Like Rose, I'm also wondering if we're missing Live event opportunities.

Is there a famous graffiti wall near a flea market in any of the cities referenced so far? The library description is getting pretty specific, also.
I'd hate to think these things are all only in NY.
