From the Guadalajara CL:
Quote:
The old woman sitting on the steps.

Until now, the person sitting on the steps has always been a girl reading. The old woman was on a bench, or somtimes, a chair. A slip or something else?

You: Dancing to your own beat

Me: Hoping to hear mine

With the new found wealth, I return to the man on the corner.

A dead fish is not something I want to carry around and, well, it's worth a try.

He watches as I throw it in his hat.

I can tell that it's not what he expected. After getting nothing with everything else that I have, the simple consideration is a reward.

You'd think he'd have been happy with a hunk of amethyst. It wouldn't have gone for what it's worth, but it would certainly go further than the gum wrappers I had given him before.

The fish. It's food.

Rotten as it is, it's food.

He starts playing the drum and through the music I can hear him talk to me.

I plea with him to tell me the question.

He laughs.

And then he goes on about my journey. It's not the destination.

Trite.

Bastard.

A book.

GEE I WONDER WHAT BOOK THAT COULD BE.

Well, the book could still be something but the money, book, fish combination is my fault - I submitted a dream in which I was hired to deliver those items to her from a man wearing a hat . The intention was that she'd use the money to buy her question from Exu - seems like it didn't work out exactly as I planned.

I didn't specify what the book was so it could still be anything.

Ten days to hell - w4m
Quote:
You: Discovering the madness
Me: Trying to get out
A tormented cry echoes through my head, waking me up and killing any thought I have of sleep.
The horror isn't the cry.
The horror is that I'm here. Again. Always.
Ten days. Ten nights.
Ten days to figure it out.
Ten days to accept it or move on.
I watched you.
One. You were running down the hall. Awake. Aware.
Five. You were trapped in the stairwell. Scared. Screaming
Ten. You were sitting in the lobby. Paralyzed. Panicked.
You've found the madness.
Is it the way out?

Are we sure it's a time limit? It looks to me as if she is counting the days as in the past:

"I watched you.
(Day?) One. You were running down the hall. Awake. Aware.
(Day?) Five. You were trapped in the stairwell. Scared. Screaming
(Day?) Ten. You were sitting in the lobby. Paralyzed. Panicked."

Or am I reading it wrong?

Yes, that's two Raleigh's.

Which might be related to the fact that over a week ago GetMEOut apparently took a trip to visit BA in person...

Well, he did mention that he went to Florida in the private messages I posted, I guess we (I) didn't make the connection.

Why Harrisonburg EVERY time?

Maybe this Angel with the missing finger is in Harrisonburg?

Unfortunately, if we are to assume that the last set of CLs are descriptive of the region near which the finger and angel are located, it cannot be Harrisonburg, as there is no harbor there.

If the place corresponds to a real location, there are a few possibilities. NYC is one - the library has a plaza with a fountain (Bryant Park), for instance, and there are plenty of buildings and coffee shops. But I'm not sure that there's really a "forest" nearby within walking distance (Central Park doesn't count) - same with waterfalls, which, I think, the East River sorely lacks.

Boston is a good possibility. There's nearby forests and rivers, and the library/fountain description applies here, too (Copley Square). There's definitely a harbor, and even railroad tracks leading from Copley Square to the Forest Hills Cemetery. As an added bonus, the Haifa CL from the last batch mentions an "emerald necklace" of forests surrounding the city, a term usually used to refer to a set of parks surrounding Boston. I will say, however, that there aren't too many fancy expensive houses on the harbor that she could have walked to. Plenty of lofts, though.

It's worth mentioning that the other reference to "Emerald Necklace" is for Cleveland. The library/plaza thing seems to work, and I know they have waterfalls and a harbor and forests (whether they're within walking distance is another matter). Same thing about the houses on the harbor, though.

I've been thinking about Providence. Only thing is there doesn't seem to be a fountain/plaza adjacent to the library. There is one five or six blocks away (Kennedy Plaza), though. No emerald necklace, really, however.

There are probably plenty of other possibilities out there. Plus, we don't know if she is referring to a real place, and even if she is, where we'd find the cemetery or what we'd be looking for even if we did. As tempted as I am to go to Forest Hills on a lark, my experience with doing Small Favors for Lucky in LCP can narrow down the location, wandering in a huge cemetery looking for one grave will probably be fruitless.

I think we should keep in mind that we are currently operating in a universe where Miskatonic University is an actual place, which may indicate that certain locations + geography could vary wildly from what we know today. Were there any forests / undeveloped areas in or around NYC during lovecraft's time that she could be referring to?

reposting this here because it looks like it got lost in the shuffle over at SO:

ok everyone. I hadn't posted the dream i sent B.A. because, in general, I don't like airing that kind of stuff in a public forum. I had initially intended to call, but a long distance call is a little out of my league at the moment (budget-wise).

Unfortunately, i don't remember which craigslist post i replied to, but here's what i sent:

Quote:

When i was eight years old I started having recurring dreams.

My eyes were closed as tightly as they could be. everything was completely silent. then it came. the loudest drum i've ever heard. BOOM. pause. BOOM. pause. My heart jumped in my chest, and I could taste dust from the crumbling walls in the air. I wan't alone, but was too frightened to open my eyes. Too afraid to know where i was. who was there. I'd press my hands against my ears, and pray for the drums to end. only silence was no longer a repreive. Just a promise of another soul-shattering report. BOOM. pause. BOOM. pause. BOOM.

The beats would slowly move closer together, and for some reason, fear turned into terror. terror into panic. panic into something else.

I would wake up screaming and confused. Sometimes I would be running down the hall, or into the driveway before I even realized I was awake.

It's the kind of nightmare that kids have. No explanations. just fear. raw and pure.

I havn't dreamt like that for years.

They started again last night. I smelled smoke. I tasted ashes. I tasted blood.

I need to know if you see me there. I need to know if you see my children there. I need to know if we can stop the madness you speak of.

Saint-Feline, please grant me your protection.

So that's what I sent, and here's the stockholm posting from yesterday..

Sorry to everyone about my little outburst over at SO. The stress is getting to me. And yes, what I said was true, I try not to lie, especially not for sympathy. I just hate feeling like I can't help.

You're doing great taluria. Even just commenting, bouncing ideas, thinking, etc. is a huge help. The worst thing we can do is get tunnel vision here, so the more talking we do, the better. everyone gets frustrated (I, for example, hand-typed every CL post into an excel doc thinking I could use a few macros to pull patterns out of the fold. when it didn't work out (after 2 days of re-typing posts) I flipped for a bit (my co-workers were a bit confused). ))

heh.

Thanks, Ob. So, does anyone think we will be getting more CLs after this batch? Also, I know that was probably a terrible thing to say over at SO, about only being able to think of one other person whose name starts with "B", Bryce.
