[PUZZLE] #3 Port Royal
The wall map puzzle

http://thehunt.volvocars.net/us/1757N7649W

Drawn on the wall
The world, all
Tales of lands unseen
I'll roam the waters inbetween

Each spoiler tag builds on the spoiler before it, progressively giving more away. The topmost spoilers are merely gentle nudges in the proper direction. The solution is at the bottom.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Layman translation of the clue:
A drawing on the wall
Of the whole world
Including lands most people have never seen
Find the solution between those lands and the civilized world

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You're looking for a drawing of the world on a wall.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That would be a world map, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the walls like that here.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The doors are all locked too.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Try the stairs.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The end of the world?
None ever spoke of that place
For none that sail there ever return

Follow the trail
To the uncharted south
Find frozen soil, closing waters
Mountains carved in ice
And there be dragons, you see
For world's end
Find the white spot

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Layman translation of the clue:

The ends of the earth
Can't be spoken about
Because those that see it haven't been able to get back to speak of it

Continue your journey
Far enough south that no one has been able to make a map and return to civilization with the meager means of that time period
A place where the ground is always frozen and all the waters of the world converge and as such seem to end
Where there are mountains both covered in and made of ice
And people of that time figure there must be sea monsters since almost no one returns and those who do may report of creatures never seen before
To continue on from there
Search the parts of the map that are white

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Try clicking and dragging around the map to see what happens.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Using line 5, you need to be searching the southern hemisphere.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Narrow the location down:
You're looking for something that hasn't been charted. What's missing on this map?
What would more primative people consider dragons and where do you see them?
Where on a primative map does the world seem to end?
Where would you expect to find ice?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The actual map color is tan, not white. In the area you are searching, what part of the map would you expect to actually be white.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are actually 4 locations on the map that fit all the criterion.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You can't go through this quickly. The scratching will reveal what you need to know, but slowly. Patiently work over the correct areas.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Scratching in the right locations will reveal numbers and they are rather small.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Patiently scratch the paint off of the four icebergs at the bottom of the map.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Since there are four locations to find the anwer, it's safe to say that the solution will be split evenly among them.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are two numbers on each iceberg.

Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4321 S 2053 W or http://thehunt.volvocars.net/us/4321S2053W
Scratching on each of the four icbergs along the bottom of the map will reveal a total of 8 numbers (2 on each iceberg) which are to be read top to bottom, left to right. Iceberg 1: 43. Iceberg 2: 21. Iceberg 3: 20. Iceberg 4: 53.

Something to do with the star chart maybe? The dead man's right leg wasn't used until a later puzzle, maybe this one will too?

yea i was thinking they were signifying where the other buoys lay in respect to the one you were looking at. for example:

24 (N)

18(W) 51 (E)

33(S)

each picture looked like this:
o=light spot

o o 18
o 24 o
o 33 o
51 o o

but i couldnt find a combination that made sense or "fit" anyone else have any thoughts? maybe a shape different than a circle? i feel like this post is a little confusing so plz lemme know if i should explain better

Bouy

I was thinking that we were looking at the same bouy, just at different positions in the ocean. Like a 4 sided object

is there a placement of those numbers that make sense though? like if 18 is on the south side, 51 on the north side and so on? i still run into the same problem. im prob just wondering over nothing, but who knows...maybe puzzle 21/22 (the ones that matter lol) will actually involve puzzles from the previous ones...im just trying to kill time haha

Bouy

I was looking at it as a four sided object that you had to put together to get the answer.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Side 1 = 1 _ _ 8
Side 2 = X 2 _ _ _ 4
Side 3 = X X 3 _ _ _ _ 3
Side 4 = X X X 5 . . 1

i actually got the same answer but a different way....i dunno why yall had the xs there? maybe someone could explain to me?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

1 _ _ 8 o o
o 2 _ _ _ 4 o
o 3 _ _ _ _ 3 o
o o 5 _ _ 1

where the os are the lights (based from a perspective if your looking at the buoy from the north...and i figure 18 was north...which is why the lights on 18 and 51 are switched from the sides as you see it) and based on how much space was btw the lights, and how close the lights were to the buoys, i added extra space certain places. i feel like i made the puzzle harder than it is, but i thought the lights were incorporated somehow

X's

I put the x's in as spaces, when I would just hit the space bar as spaces it would look fine until I added the spoiler and when I did a preview of it all the lines were lined up, so I added the spaces to show placement.

Besides X marks the spot!

yes, but how did you know to only add one x to 24 two x's to 33, 3 to 51, and none to 18? i guess im asking, how dd you know to put the spaces in? did you that bc that was the only way you got the answer after trying other combinations?
