I had a little more interaction last night, but I was drunk so I forgot to post it. Here's an update on what I've got.

Quote:
You swing the books in a violent swoop towards the case. The books collide with the glass, but the glass it as strong as a rock and it holds. You repeatedly swing the books at the glass again, but is remains firm.

You guess that if you want the parchment, trying to break the case is not the way to go.

Your move.

Y'know, if I weren't in this situation myself, I would think it was pretty cool. As it is I think it's kind of spooky, but I'm determined to get that parchment. I start looking around the library, especially around the parchment case, to see if there's any clues that I could use to open the case. There has to be some way to open it, I figure.

Quote:
You look around the library for possible clues. Your eyes pass over all of the room's contents again - Bookcases filled with books, a circle elevated from the ground, and, in front of it, a piece of parchment in a glass case.

Your move.

I put a book on the circle elevated from the ground. Maybe it's pressure sensitive or something and will cause the case to unlock. If that doesn't work, I try just lifting the case up.

I emailed Manse Master asking where I was and he replied

So, to kill time I made a map of what we have so far.

You walk through the north-west door.

You enter a large bedroom. There is a large four-poster bed in the centre with majestic royal-blue cloth hanging off it. Laying on the bed is a man wearing deep red robes with an odd square hat on his head, also deep red. He doesn't notice you as you enter, or at least pretends not to.

There are some oak dressers scattered around the room with the drawers all pulled out and laying open empty. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot something glistening in the corner of the room.

Your move.

Great... why did I have to get the room with the person in it!? Laughing

I've greeted the man. Hope he's friendly! Smile

Think I may have made some progress with the parchment.

Quote:
You put the book down on the circle. It moves down in the ground slightly. As it does, it appears that the glass case begins to shake slightly, but then the shaking dies down and the glass is still again. You pick the book up off the circle. It rises up, and the glass case shakes slightly again.

You then try just lifting the glass up. It's not going anywhere.

You have library books.

Your move.

Esteed wrote:
Okay, I put all of the books on the raised circle. I want to get it all the way down into the ground, so if I don't have enough books to do that I grab a few more and pile them on top. Once that's done, if the case doesn't go anywhere, I'll try lifting it up again.

He seems ok at the moment... not going to kill me or anything, so that's good. Smile You should post what you've been saying to him, so I don't repeat the questions.

Quote:
You politely say, "Hello" to the man.

The man sits up and proclaims, in a loud voice, "Hello. You must not have met any of my brothers yet, I venture?"

Not thinking of anybody else like this that you've met, you respond, "No."

"We are the Smith family," he says. "Each one of us has been endowed with a magical power by the wizard of Lexia."

"What is your power?" you ask.

"I have the power to take one letter out of anything to turn it into something else. For example, if you bring me a crab, I can turn it into a cab. If you bring me tissue, I could turn it into an issue. I could turn a pear into par. However, I could not turn a candle into "candl", that doesn't form something new."

He stands silently, clearly finished with his speech.

Your move.

I thanked him for the information and asked him what the glistening thing in the corner is.

You can try, but he may email back and tell you to watch rather than take part. Worth a try though, I guess. Smile

Quote:
"Can you tell me anything about where I am?" you ask.

He looks bored and says, "It's a house. What more do you need to know?"

You ask him what the glistening thing in the corner is. He just shrugs, and looks away, disinterested.

Your move.

Quote:
I'd like to ask if he minds me investigating the glistening thing in the corner, and if he doesn't then I want to go over and look at it.

Quote:
You ask if you can go look at the glistening thing in the corner. He just gives you a shrug, so you walk over.

You reach down to the glistening thing and pick it up. It appears to be a coin with the number "10" written on it. You put in in your pocket.

Your move.

Quote:
I say goodbye to the man and exit the bedroom.

I tried to get something more out of the Master when he told me just to "just sit back and listen"...

I replied with "I listen. What can I hear?"

He responded with:

Quote:
You can hear others calling for help.

- Manse Master

Haha...he is a sharp one. I shall stick around, I like the idea of this game, I'm just wondering how big the house is if it is a maze, and if the Master has the house planned out already with lots of suprises.

The Manse Master let me name the dog Cujo. He's been following me for a while now. Unfortunately, I deleted the archive I made in Gmail (grr...no more vodka and ARGs), so I'm waiting to hear something new.

I want a doggy! Very Happy

Anyway, I went back into the hall from the bedroom.

Quote:
You tell the man goodbye, but he does not hear you, or at least does not respond.

You are back in the large room with the table. Exits are north-west, north-east, south-east, south-west, and south. There is an odd glowing door to the north.

Your move.

Quote:
I would like to go southwest please.

Quote:
You walk through the south-west door.

When you first step through into the other room, you need to cover your eyes it is so bright. When they finally adjust from the darkness of the previous rooms, you swear for a second that you are outside. There are trees, flowers, and other plants everywhere, and you even spy some butterflies swirling around.

As you look deeper, however, you realise that you are in a gigantic green-house style room connected to the rest of the house, not outside of it. However, this must be the largest green-house you've ever seen. The walls to the north and south are barely visible behind rows of flowers and assorted plants, and you can't even see the wall to the west.

To the north is a small vegetable garden, to the west is a path into an area of dense foliage, and to the north-east is an exit back to the house.

Your move.

Quote:
I would like to look at the vegetable garden.

Quote:
You walk up and examine the vegetable garden. It seems that none of the plants have sprouted yet, except for an abundance of sage, which is occupying most of the area.

Your move.

So I've gone back into the main hall again. Smile

Quote:
You keep a book in hand and attempt to walk through the north-west door. However, as soon as you exit, the book flies out of your hands back to its place on the shelf. You hypothesize that you cannot bring any objects out of this particular room.

You enter a room that is, strangely, very well lit. Several golden candelabras hang from the ceiling, filling the huge cavity you stand in with light. The floor contains the same stones as were in the previous room, but arranged in elegant spirals.

The centrepiece of the room is a gigantic wooden table, stretching from one end of the room to the other, and containing, at your best guess, three dozen wooden chairs. The finish on the table makes you think that it is a strong oak piece, and the smell that it creates is welcoming and warm, but oddly pungent. Strangely, there is nothing on the table.

Directly on the opposite side of the table, to the north, there is a set of two small wooden doors that look like they have not been opened in some time. There is an odd yellow glow coming from underneath them.

To the north-east, north-west, south-east, and south-west of the room there are gigantic metal doorways, each leading to a long hall. There is also an exit to the south.

Your move.

I theorize that this place must be some kind of hall for celebrations or feasts. Either that or the owners of this place just like long tables. After that, I head through the north-west door.

I think further questioning of the guy in the bedroom is in order. Hopefully this will lead me somewhere.

No, I wasn't able to. No matter how many books I put on the circle, it wouldn't go down all the way. I'm trying to find something that could get the circle down the rest of the way, and then I intend to backtrack to the library to get the parchment.
