Odds & Ends: Foxglove ... folkesglove

Given the number of references lately to Foxglove (or rather "Digitalis") I started doing a bit more searching:
The march 13 "pseudo spam" Titled "Planting Time?" I went looking for the company that actually had the ad as listed in the e-mail. I looked at about 5 or 6 sites and so far my best guess is that the terms were cobbled together off several places and the picture came from another.
I guess no one has come across this before since I searched the UF forum (may be listed in CD, don't know yet...)
Found the following from Floridata...

http://www.floridata.com/ref/d/digi_pur.cfm
[quote]The dried leaves of common foxglove are the principal source of the important heart drug, digitalis. Originally called "folkesglove" (glove of little folks or fairies), in Olde England, today foxglove is grown commercially for the leaves which yield powerful cardiac glycosides that strengthen and regulate heartbeat. Extreme caution must be used in administering digitalis since the lethal dose is only slightly stronger than the therapeutic dose/quote]

As Valas (I think) mentioned in another thread, because Digitalis is a common medication, the Medical Examiner may have discounted its presence in the results.

Sunny mentioned it to Phyllis, and Phyllis will be yelling at the Medical Examiner probably sometime today. We should know sometime soon...
