[PUZZLE/GAME] The MUD within the output - May 15th

Thanks to the work of others, and their patient explanation of this to me... we have a MUD game hidden in the gobbly-gook found.

Go to http://www.sentryoutpost.com:4196/

Click "log in now" and use username: admin / password: initial

The Admin link that appears /a number that changes/command:look Admin....so maybe the first command is look.

The source code of that page (http://www.sentryoutpost.com:4196/7998/frameset ) says
Code:
<br><em><strong>IMPORTANT: </strong> you must click 'Go' in order to see more output. For a better interface that does <strong>not</strong> require this, use <a>Netscape 2.0</a>.</em>

jeggers post here has what appears to be commands for this MUD:
Quote:
commandsProperOrder = (
"\@wall", \&wall,
"say", \&say,
"emote", \&emote,
"\@dig", \&dig,
"\@doing", \&doing,
"\@create", \&create,
"\@stats", \&stats,
"\@rooms", \&rooms,
"\@gag", \&gag,
"\@ungag", \&ungag,
"look", \&look,
"read", \&look,
"examine", \&examine,
"inventory", \&inventory,
"drop", \&drop,
"get", \&get,
"take", \&get,
"home", \&home,
"whisper", \&whisper,
"who", \&who,
"sign", \&sign,
"write", \&sign,
"unsign", \&unsign,
"help", \&help,
"motd", \&motd,
"welcome", \&welcome,
"\@set", \&set,
"\@describe", \&setDescr

(And I think there are other bits of it elsewhere)

It's like one of those text adventure games, but who knows what might be unleashed. Shocked

I played around with that, earlier but couldn't get anywhere.
"Admin has disconnected.
You go home."
seems to lock you out of any activities.

Are your commands working?

ETA:
I was trying to see if the numbers 15806, 5430, 8103 or 14356 have any special meaning in this/any MUD.

The MUD has changed this morning.
Still doesn't seem to accept my commands, but today it says
Quote:
#Admin has connected.
Admin has connected.
Void has disconnected.
Void goes home.
Void arrives at home.
Auth: 0, best 415 Unauth: 0 (0.00% intrusion)

Actually it seems to keep updating, first the unauth number goes up and then it seems to change the auth number...

That was me. I scripted several hundred connections to try and push up the best number. It didn't work though Sad

I believe in Mud terms Curse is the name of the command that activates ANSI color schemes. I might be remembering wrong though.

None the less. I typed in "curse", and got

Auth: 0, best 415 Unauth: 1 (100% intrusion)

I've never used or played a MUD so sorry if that is an idiotic question. Smile

According to the PerlMUD website, The Void is a room.

Quote:
Now, to start the MUD, type (under Unix):

perl mud &

In the beginning, there are only two objects: The Void (a room, object #0) and Admin (a player, object #1).

I'm not sure how a room goes home, though....

So if we are the admins and we only have a void... are we supposed to build something here?

That's what I was thinking, but we can't seem to do any of that. I think we'll need one of our Old Sentries to help us....

There's a second MUD on 4198. If auth is 0, then it will occasionally give Connection terminated. If auth goes above the threshold, it goes really wonky. I think it's tied to port 5217 in the same way that 4196 is tied to 1313. Odd

I wonder if the PM's did change the default admin login/pass and then set up a limited user account with the default. That way we could "hack" into it to gain access, but are limited on what the "real admins" set up eventually. It could be that they fiddled with the code as well, but I'm just trying to guess what the purpose of setting it up to monitor other ports is.

This sounds like an astute observation, jegger. I haven't checked it out yet, but what is the "wonky" part that you experience? Does it output similar to 5217 or are you just assuming it links to 5217?

/me has no real idea how this linking to ports works, but is curious to find out Very Happy

I've been playing with the MUD interface at http://www.ronomi.com:4196

and the url seems to change very randomly depending on what I enter. So far I've seen:

http://www.ronomi.com:4196/10681/frameset
http://www.ronomi.com:4196/4917/frameset
http://www.ronomi.com:4196/12838/frameset
http://www.ronomi.com:4196/12324/frameset
http://www.ronomi.com:4196/5472/frameset
http://www.ronomi.com:4196/10519/frameset

etc. etc. etc.

What are those numbers that keep changing?

It doesn't output the same stuff, but that could be because it's on a browser. Sometimes the connection gets reset, sometimes I just get a blank screen, Sometimes it just sits there transferring data forever. Once the auth drops to 0, though, it starts acting normal again.
