2 Emails Phyllis JDs Funeral and Disinterment for Digitalis

Sunny, Dearest,

The weather was a hot drizzle. All those well-coifed hair-do's turned to fizz. One wished for the Buddhist tradition of wearing white. But, there we all were suffering the heat in basic black. I was so glad I chose to wear a hat and had ripped a bit of black gauze from an old evening dress to fashion myself a veil –all the better to disguise my melting cosmetics and the rivulets of tears. All of the important people were there: Pat and Agatha, one on each side of me, relegating Iris and her friends to the lesser ranks; the entire town Council and their wives and one husband, respectively; Sam Greene who blushed violently and wouldn't meet my eyes; Wes looking quite dapper in a suit, for a change; a representative contingent of Doyle's; Patti tucked in the fringe looking quite appropriate in her gothic attire. And, yes, *he* arrived in his stretch limo and unwound himself from the back seat like the snake he is. Plus my lawyer, Douglas' lawyer, his former associates, a whole murder of crows arrayed in a semi-circle across the chasm of the open grave, reminding me of graffiti. It all felt quite surreal and I don't remember a word spoken until Dale appeared. Maybe it was the tears I kept trying to suppress but there was a scintilla of radiance, an aura about him. He strode so confidently among us. There were gasps; someone faltered in their speech. He looked at me, framed by the heads and shoulders of others, looked me in the eye. How brave he was to come. I lost sight of him as the ceremony preceded. Then, afterwards, as everyone formed a line and came to me to express their sympathy, suddenly, he was there again, holding my hand. "I'm so sorry, Phyllis." I brought him close to me in an embrace. He whispered in my ear, "I had nothing to do with his death; I promise I will do everything I can -- we will figure it out." I pulled back to look at him. I would have said something but there was Don Marzano, next in line. Dale gave him such a look, I cannot describe it. I broke down in sobs and Agatha came between me and the Don, comforting and leading me away. She spared me from suffering whatever that man might have said. At the car, I looked back and Dale was being confronted by Dawn Prufrock. "How dare she," I gasped and Pat sprinted away to come between her and Dale. Agatha held me or I would have gone over there and caused such a scene. But, Pat smoothed it over somehow, I don't know how. Dale left with Wes and Sam, still free. Agatha was pressing me into the limo and I cried out, "Where's Iris?" And, she was there to hold my hand and take the drive back home.

People came, I don't remember them. The food was exquisite, I don't remember tasting it. Everyone commented on the massive flower arrangement dominating the entry hall and the last thing I said as I went up the stairs and left everyone gapping in the parlor was, "Throw those damn flowers out of MY house!"

I am feeling so very tired this morning, like I could sleep for days. Oddly, Iris and James do not seem to be here. Chris claims not to know where they are.

Love, Phyllis

and then right after that she immeadiatley sent me another email about JD and disintering him to check for digitalis

NOW YOU TELL ME! GOOD GRIEF, SUNNY! All capitals means shouting, doesn't it?
Well, let me say that when I read your email about digitalis causing heart attacks I said a great deal more than "good grief." To check for this will they have to disinter Douglas' body?! I am going to the Coroner's Office this morning. I absolutely MUST know if he checked for poisons. Well, I'll say this, I'm wide awake now and my depression will just have to wait for another time when it can be properly indulged. As the cliché goes, better late than never, so I do thank you for thisinformation. I'll let you know what I learn.

Love,
Phyllis

Quoting Prettycolors62SPLATaol.com:

Dearest Phyllis

I got up late this AM... I still have darn strep throat so I was a little
remiss in posting your message about Douglas. I hope that you will forgive me in not letting the others know sooner. It was wonderful to hear from you. I had been getting up early and checking my email to see if you had written and darn wouldnt ya know it that I would sleep late on a day with so much important information. Darn this is a little late to ask but did the coroner check JDs body for the medicine or herb digitalis. That will cause a heart attack. Sorry to say this so late in the day....havent heard hide nor hair from Dale. Well my dear Phyllis I will be around later if you need to talk..
