The Real Miskatonic Go Pods!!! The Real Miskatonic is based on Brown University in Providence. The school is the direct real time companion to Miskatonic.

I tried to clean up the snippets pulled from the 1031 file.
http://bsuwiki.arghive.com/Plaintext
I think i've removed all the wiki stuff, and forum stuff to the wiki & forum pages.
What's left I've separated into PM's and NEWS.
It's pretty obvious that the PM's use pronouns (like "we", "you") names (like "Arthur") and bitterness (like "you're an ass")
Everything else is lumped into News. I even found a few posts they got from slashdot
The PM's (I can't tell if they are Private Messages, or general forum posts) i grouped into subcategories.
Y2K, Halloween, and Collaboration.
The bitter posts could go in any of those groups.
I love this snippet

The Pleiades is the supposed home to Hastur. Carcosa is said to reside there.
Also among the 7 sisters, also known as the Pleiades, is Celano, the great Library of the Elder Gods.

Does anyone else find it statistically odd that the two latest people to post back to back in the "Introductions" thread at SO are both in the U.S. Army, both with positions that aren't just your regular G.I. Joe?
I apologize in advance to these guys (or girls?) if you're "real players" but even you'd have to admit it's a pretty big coincidence.....lol

I'm Disinfo, and I'm a translator for the U.S. Army, and network security is a hobby of mine. I terrible at it, though. Security, I mean. Nice to meet you all!
From post: As I said in my "intro" post, I'm a translator for the U.S. Army. By coincidence, the language I do the most translation on is Arabic

Salutations everyone! It seems that the trend is to make an introductory post. I'm malakkhayel (transliterated arabic meaning "shadow angel") I'm a signals analyst in the U.S. Army, which basically means communications cryptology.

Maybe they are friends of other players and were lured into the game? I remember seeing someone mention a friend who spoke Arabic.
And if they were IG characters, they would NOT be registered in uF. That would break the TOS (and GMD would not do that).

I created a new thread on Sentry Outpost, hoping to get information out of the old Sentries. http://www.sentryoutpost.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1562#1562
Part of me thinks that one of the new characters mentioned (Scott, Peter, Stacy) are involved in this whole thing.
Feel free to read and add information.

Maera's illness (brief conversation with Mkaos) Huan (posting under the name of his deceased sister) stated the following on the SO boards several days ago:
Quote:
As Mkaos said, she had been dealing with a neurological condition for some time...
HOWEVER I had the following PM conversation with Mkaos the other night, in which Mkaos contradicts what Huan said:

there have just been a significant number of posts originating from there. So, in my mind, that implies that there's something significant about that location + those posts. <shrug>
I agree, there is definitely something strange about that. But I don't know of any Sentries that lived anywhere near there. Maybe it has something more to do with BA? It's all a bit confusing.

oh, on that note, after reading the exchange between you and Huan, i was wondering what was ailing Maera prior to her leaving the sentires? (i know that's a sensitive topic, but it might help. somehow.)
I want to say it was diabetes. Whatever it was, she was struggling over it for years. She was a pro at going to the doctor and dealing with insurance, that's for sure. She hasn't been around in ages, at least not posting. I remember wanting to chat with her over this stupid issue my mother had with a medical bill. Fortunately we got it all resolved

People with long term and/or poorly controlled diabetes can get neurological problems (neuropathy). Maybe they got different stories from that person (some folks don't always share all their personal problems).
[META] Or the different PMs don't have their backstories coordinated???[/META]

From the information I've accumulated, both about the game itself and general Lovecraft trivia, my guess says that whatever is being advertised with this is set in Lovecraft's own world, carried along to the modern day.
If one assumes the TINAG standpoint, HP Lovecraft could very easily have been reporting secondhand stories as fiction to get the word out when he'd have been dismissed for the same stories presented as non-fiction. Which would make him a character in his own world.
Or I may just be taking my inexperience as wisdom.

FYI, the creators of this game have stated that it's not advertising anything in particular at the moment.
