My ABC rant, I finally vented on the Push deal...

I ask myself that very same question. You would think with the expenditure of over a million dollars, that the idiots at the "Absolute Bull Crap" network would at least attempt to recover their investment.

It has been said by many a sage "It is often better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt." You would think that they put forth such an extensive effort to give the greenlight to the push project, then only to move heaven and earth to prove that it wouldn't work.

it's like the doctors trying to find out if the lung transplant was successful in the patient by reviving him/her and seeing if they are able to breathe by submerging them in water....

It's no secret that at this point that even PBS (LOL gimme a break...LOL) is giving them a run for the ratings. (Yes adults would prefer mr. rogers neighborhood/stressame street over 95% of their chosen programming selections) but when they finnaly take a chance and do something unique like fox did with Married with children...(learn abc...learn from the masters...) that they would do what they could to stand behind it. Not against it as they have so conveniently done. But noooooo. They put their necks out on the chopping block. Beg mercy from the executioner, while holding the rope.

They take the show and pit it against the best shows on the air, complain like whiny lil biotches when the bulk of the communities at large don't bat an eye, pull the rope, cut off their own heads, and blast the 4 creators for their incompetency, as a result. and say "See we knew it wouldn't work, but we believed in you...you let us down, you will never work in this business again...yada yada yada....)

oh wait, that sounds like our government doesn't it? never mind... bit of a tangent...

the point is, Live planet and my buds Affleck, and Damon, in conjunction with the two other creators, were brilliant in their notion. They should have taken it to Fox. (Lord God almighty I wish they would have taken it to Fox) And now it is looking like ABC will forever ruin the notion of interactive television. As they have ruined so much other aspects of our culture. For the record, from the finishing moment of the last broadcast of Push Nevada, no advertiser will benefit from my viewing or the other 55 people in my circle from their advertisers. I may watch a show or two just to monitor their advertisors, but not 1 product will be purchased from any given advertiser. For the record so far I know of 4 toyotas that were returned, and about 20 sprint cell phones to be returned after the last airing of Push, (Provided their ads can be seen on ABC). And the one thing all 56 of us have in common? Nielsen ratings won't give us the time of day...

and the movements begin but with a drop of water... Smile

okay I put that off for a week now, I vented I am happy. Pass it around, knock em in the belt. Of course I did speak up and remove all doubt, but as the fool or the spokesman couldn't tell ya!

Peace!

Long live FOX!!!!

( I thought I would share this with you all here, wrong category I am sure, but I vented, and vented well.... Smile me and my unique metaphors will get me killed one day...)

Instead of ABC or Fox, it seems Live Planet is also pitching to HBO. (This was an old headline, and I haven't seen any followup to know if the deal was signed.)

General Manager will allow viewers to control a minor leage baseball team.

HBO's will next step up to the reality TV plate with a show called General Manager, which "would allow viewers to track the progress of a minor league baseball team -- and then control its destiny via the Internet," according to Variety. The show will be produced by Live Planet, the production company behind Project Greenlight which includes Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

(most of the Google hits go to expired articles)

If you want to assign blame for the failure of Push, I suggest Live Planet for taking it to ABC in the first place. What the bleep were they thinking?!!! The other root cause of the failure is the unbelievably poorly acted and directed and written pilot. If it hadn't been for the ARG attached to this show, I never would have kept watching. That would have been my loss however since the show improved dramatically in every sense of the word in later episodes. If the quality of the third episode had been present in the pilot, then maybe more people would have stayed for more.

As for FOX taking the show instead...with these miserable rating...the show would have failed there, too. These are ratings that would have only looked attractive to a cable network (or PAX). Even UPN would have bailed, and so would the advertisers.

The real shame is that Push NV is a really good concept that is going to die on the vine. I'm hoping that Live Planet learns from this and if they take another foray into experimental television, that they pitch it to a cable channel that has a strong internet audience cross-over like Sci-Fi.
