I'm new to this game and I'm not sure why exactly we think it will start in December?

No mystery there, rose. I think it's mostly because of the text "See you in December" hidden on one of the few in-game pages. Smile

See this post ...

Additionally, the candle, from my very basic observation, "melts" down a bit at every midnight.

That would be my observation too, as well as from what I've heard from other people on other sites/forums as well.

Also, an interesting fact: a very similar looking jack-o-lantern appeared in a short Batman comic series called "Batman: The Long Halloween."

Guy--while I agree that something big will happen in December, I don't think that precludes events before that. I think the ComicCon "Why So Serious" game proves 42's willing to hold events leading up to it.

Does anyone know if the story for the movie is based on The Long Halloween at all? It'd be pretty cool...Although I think this is either a) Just a little bit of activity to keep our eyes on it, or b) The candle melting is actually counting down to something specific. If something were to pop off, Joker wise, Halloween would be a perfect night for it to happen.

Edit: Guess if I waited a second, I'd answer my own question. Rolling Eyes Wikipedia says
Quote:
The Long Halloween, along with Batman: The Man Who Falls, Batman: Year One, and various comics from the 1970s, all served as inspiration for the 2005 film release Batman Begins, as well as the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have continuous screenshots of the jack-o-lantern on whysoserious.com?

I want to see if there are any other (most probably minor) changes in the details around the jack-o-lantern other than the candle.

For example, I'm trying to remember if the slightly blueish background (to the immediate right of the pumpkin) changed at all from before...

If my suspicions are correct, IBIHDT (I Believe in Harvey Dent Too) will explode into a full-on ARG on Halloween.

***Time to start looking at other websites too, though.

I've checked the flash source. The candle is its own repeating animation with nothing special, and the flickr is just script-made with varying brightness. So nope, nothing special. The candle is definitely winding down though - they seem to be updating the parent flash, and putting a still graphic over top of the original candle animation, and the last update was 10/18. It probably gets a little shorter each week, or at least every few days.

candle

the candle seems to be melting faster could the update happen before halloween or could some event be planned for that day

if there is a big change on halloween everybody will most likely not be home so lets hope the update comes earlier

I would use the term "pregame". I think we are in agreement that december is probably going to be game-on, but in the mean time little things, such as big events to pull in an audience, or little site updates with cute things... all pregame. None of them seem to hinge on the next update {the exception being the updates for the comicon event which i personally honestly consider one big update}. I really think they just want to see how big of an audience they can pull in before december.

Now am I saying this will become a puzzle or an event? I don't know, that's the best part, none of us do. It could be nothing more than what I did some years back on ym diary-x site where i had a candle slowly melt each night and go out and be smokey when a certain event happened. It could be the release of something. Or, in true Joker fashion, could we be getting a trick??? Smile One can only hope.

Either way, I think most of us agree, it is all pre-game.

The thought just occurred to me...maybe the pumpkin on whysoserious.com will go up in flames or something dramatic like that when the candle finally burns down...

I don't follow Long Halloween much...does anything happen to the pumpkin specifically, or is that just a symbolic image on the front cover?

EDIT: Maybe this is what happens.

Further Analysis of the Pumpkin
More stuff about the pumpkin on whysoserious.com

Good call, elvis cocho. I just thought that the burned pumpkin referenced Joker.

It's actually supposed to represent Harvey Dent's face (note that the burned portion mirrors Two-Face's facial markings).

But here's another explanation not of the pumpkin on whysoserious, taken from the synopsis of The Long Halloween mentioned earlier:

"Cover--The rotted pumpkin is of course a reference back to the cover of issue one, on which the jack-o-lantern was still fresh. The rotting of the pumpkin overtly reflects what happened to Harvey, since it is the left side that is now mangled, but it more deeply symbolizes how many of the main characters' beliefs have been perverted in the end of the series. The pumpkin might represent Gotham City; now the idealized perceptions everyone had of Gotham have become corrupted and diseased."

Also, taken from the analysis of the cover of the first issue in The Long Halloween:

Cover--The scratches across the left side of the jack-o-lantern, what would be the right cheek, are meant to symbolize Carmine Falcone, who has similar scratches on his face. The cat represents Catwoman, and the mouth is in the shape of a bat.[/img]
Since this update seems to be the pre-game or start to something new, I've created a new thread to move discussion to... as Palm pointed out, this probably isn't even the relevent thread since there's already a WhySoSerious thread.

So, please continue the WSS update discussion in this thread. tnx!

Hiya VII7, we're carrying on discussion in this thread about the pumpkin website. But I agree - so it looks like the cover of Long Halloween: Punishment rather than Crime.

Ugh, let this one go guys, it's a waiting game to December.

fixed the broken image code ~ varin

Has anyone else noticed that it is now December and the page mentioned above has a countdown on it? When I looked at it early december it only had a few lights on it; one is being added each day. I don't know if it means anything or not.
