# 21 Counts

I learn two things last year doing the hunt;

1. The only puzzle that counts it the last one, the rest are for preperation.

2. If you are doing this thinking you are going to be the winner prepare for disappointment. Enjoy it and if you happen to win great but the odds are not even close to being in your favor. You could have the outright answer given to you by Volvo themselves and you would still not be the winner. Give it all you got but know that the simple fact is only one person from 22 countries is going to make it and of the 22 only one will win. It could be you, we shall see, but it won't be me.

details on last year?

Hi sab,

What was the final puzzle like last year? Not the puzzle itself, but the mechanics of it all.

Was it just "finding a URL" like all of these puzzles are? Because, if so, as has been discussed, there is a rather obvious way to "find the url" without really giving much attention to the puzzle.

Did you have to login with your pirate code at any point?

I'm interested in hearing how it all went down. Given some of what we know so far (i.e. last years winner stating solutions before puzzles are even posted) I have doubts about the legitimacy of this entire competition.

Final puzzle last year

Here's what I remember about the final puzzles from last year:

There were (at least) two parts to the final online round. The first part had you go back through ALL the previous puzzles and look for "extra" numbers. Some of these numbers were there all along, and you could notice them when you were working that puzzle, but at least one of them (I think) was NOT there before - you had to go back and work the puzzle again to find it.

Those coordinates took you to an island, and (I think) what you found there depended on the country you were playing in. In the US, you "dug up" a box and its lid and used the symbols in one to figure out the sequence of the numbers you deciphered in the other one.

Then once you had your final coordinates, you went to a page where you had to enter your contact information and the code from your Volvo pirate map, along with your answer.

Really, that was the only time you needed the map last year - which is probably why they're making us use it so much this year.

Of course, the real final round was a treasure hunt on an island - the video from that is still up on the "official" blog site.

I also have very little chance of winning, and have had to use these cheats more than I had hoped because vacation set me far behind. But, as Jack would say, "Take what you want, and give nothin' back."

All I can say about this location is; What a nice spot to segregate players into their own time zones for the final puzzle...

After taking us to world's end of course.

Finals

Is it just a matter of finding the URL's last year yes and no, yes you needed to get to the island, no you would just enter your solution, this year?

Volvo has learned from last year and has made improvements like everyone starting at the same time. Everyone has there own unique pirate code per map. Who knows what else!

On the final puzzle last year you were to enter your solution into either the box lid or into the box bottom. After you entered the final coordinates you entered your information. The time was from when the puzzle started until you entered your info. What confused most people was they found the first piece without finding the second as you could enter as solution in either place they just entered a random guess.

Start Time

While on the map it looks like we moved all the way across the map into the last time zone to the right, we actually didn't go that far we are in the same time zone as Cocos Islands and South of Java.

This puzzle should be open at 9:00 am edt.

I look at that pile yesterday and thought now that would be hard.

We've come to the world's end where we have to get LOST to be found
