When you first enter the snow scape you have a blood spot next to the footprint - mine was on the left side of the footprint. from there travel:

5 steps N 0 steps West to 1 rock
3 N 9 W to 3 rocks
4 N 9 W to 5 rocks
6 N 4 W to 7 rocks
0 N 5 W to 8 rocks

final Coords

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
5346S 9945E to Southern Ocean & the final puzzle for most of us

huh?

I don't know how you managed that! you just swept out covering all ground?

I had the piles you found for 1 and 3 rocks.. but there are also other rocks out there too (i.e. 5 steps down from starting position) - how did you determine which piles were red herrings and which weren't?

oh, the puzzle seems to change. when I entered it once, my initial footprint was pointing south, so I went there and down 5 steps was a single rock. I assume this can then be "solved" going in a general South/East direction as well.

There aren't any red herring rocks. I did a pretty good grid pattern to check on the initial solve before I found my third rock (naturally I checked 10 out in the other 3 directions first, rather than going the right way).

Oh, and I was right in my prediction on when it would open on page 1.

j5, yes I do think that there are alternate solved depending on the position of the first footprint & blood drop.

Graph paper worked great to plot out the locations, then trial & error in entries

Thanks for findin all the rocks, RedHatty. That would have taken me hours. I'll assume the flash plays a little faster for you; either that or you're really dedicated.

Am I right in remembering that Red Hattie is in Australia? and that might be why she would thing of "down" as North and "right" as West - as opposed to us here in the northern hemisphere, who would see "down" as South and "right" as East.

And oh, since we were looking for South and East coordinates, might this info be helpful for future puzzles, for those south of the equator?

those of you lost in the blizzard

keep the moon/ sun as your center or else the fog will turn your steps and you will lose your sense of directions....

reloading helps in this game
clever the peeps who figured the turns

hats off to you all

Well actually you wouldn't be lost because of the blood spot which is a compass itself!

well it's still a litle dit inversed, but readable

Crazy Aggie, I am not from down under, I am from Louisiana - just takes a little decoding skills to figure out my location Smile

But, according to the movie, down is up and up is down, so the rest just follows Smile

plus some graph paper helps alot!

I have spent more than 1 hour walking in the snow and scanning a 40x40 ft square centered on the starting point (blood drop on the left of the shoe)
I only found 3 spots of rocks at those coordinates:
5N 0W : 1 rock
8N 9W : 3 rocks
12N 18W : 5 rocks

After that I gave up!... tooooo looog

How did you manage to scan this huge area???

what is the purpose of the rocks?

Red Hatty you are simply amazing. I kept walking in circles and noticed the rocks but figured they would end up being the coordinates; not how many steps N/S and then W/E. How did you figure out the rocks were not part of the solution????

a lot of trial and error. And graph paper is great for keeping track of a maze puzzle
