You can't resubmit answers. It states that only one answer per entrant will be accepted. That means when you submit an answer and enter your information, that is your first and only answer that will be counted. Look at the rules in more detail if you have any questions.

Only 1/2 left to answer anyway until the puzzle officially closes:)

time zones and notification

I understand your reluctance to believe my position in the Volvo organization.

I never ever said anything about times zones, but yes I am well versed in Volvo's game and the use of the UTC (universal time code), Daylight savings time, and how it transletes while navigating in different parts of the world.

I have nothing obviously to gain from telling people to keep trying.

And for the other blog entry, it's simple, if anyone is reported and investigation found that yes, they have deprived others of their equal participation, their submitted information if seen by the server next year will not register their final submittal.

...and notification of acceptance will occur AFTER a telephone interview determines you are eligible. It won't be a "CONGRADULATIONS" unti AFTER the interview.

At this point you have notification, are responsible, and Volvo disavowes any liability from persons giving out information, or not continuing the event due to someone else saying they can't win.

what time did you submit?

I'm cuirious what time anyone submitted? I couldn't even get to the puzzle for the first 8 minutes on the CDN site.. had to jump over to US after 8 mins of trying and got it right away. Went to submit my response, but the US siter was US specific (state, no provinces) so had to do battle with CDN site to submit.

Bottom line: I was on stand-by waiting for the puzzle. Solved it in all of 1-2 minutes probably, but really didn't submit an answer until at least 8:20ish EST - I'd hate to find out I submitted a correct solution but was too late (my solution is the same as many of you... with bottles = 1).

The CDN site and firefox were not agreeiung with eachother.. ultimatley I wound up in IE to submit.

i submitted at 7:10 my time (10 minutes after puzzle opened). dont worry abt the puzzles not opening because you're only competing against your own country...so they were all delayed as well.

How could you have submitted your answer at 8:20ish EST....the puzzle wasn't even available until 10:00am EST!

yea, 10:20ish EST

sorry, was confusing EST with my local time. 20ish minutes into the puzzle (if that wasn't obvious) is what I meant.

I had the ol' stuck on a frozen hour-glass issue.. it was resolved by switching browsers, so I consider it highly likely that other CDN participants did not experience an identical problem.

oh well.. I figured I'd lost before I'd even seen the puzzle.. just sitting in my chair waiting.. reloading every minute.. waiting some more.

To all those who want to post that your a finalist and actually are not, we know that you are all winners, real winners.

Have some pride, a little self respect. Millions of people played this game and there are only 22 who will get the call and qualify and only one from the United States. This same thing happened last year and will happen again next if there is a next. Why? To what end do you do it? Please explain it to me because I don't get it!

Posting

I submitted very late (40 mins) and no threat to anyone. Part of it was trying to be cautious since, I posted so quickly last year and wished I could have gone back. The most important thing was making sure you felt confident about your answer. The other problem was work. I really wished Volvo would have scheduled the semi-final over a weekend. I got pulled away for 20 minutes and I knew it was all over. C'est la vie!

Question: I see a few of you mention "next year's contest". How do you know there is another next year? Isn't this in conjunction with POTC? Great if there is!

If not, I can say that it would be nice to somehow, continue the tradition. Who'd be game for starting a "club"? I have some resources I'd be willing to throw into the lot (i.e. hardware/servers, programming & dev skills). Obviously, enough of you also have the intelligence and talent (and time Wink ) to vastly contribute. Again, that's if The Hunt is not a recurring contest otherwise, it's probably mute.

Er, neither did I.

And this correlates to exactly WHAT portion of what I wrote?

One more time.........there is one single moment in time for start, and one for ending. At the start, the exact moment, it just happens to be 7 am in California, 10 am in New York, 2 pm in the UK, etc. I would think a Volvo rep would have a grasp of that concept.

And for that, in all seriousness, I applaud you soundly. Very good advice.

I *highly* doubt that. It didn't work this year, when last year's winner who--for all intents and purposes cheated to get the answer--did his thing and hacked out movie files again on this game....and posted them to the boards 45 minutes before the start of the game. He, might I add, also had a problem understanding the time thing.

time zone and getting to last puzzle

The posted time for getting into the last puzzle was 14.00 UTC at the lat/long from #20.

Each contestant was sent(or should have been sent) an e-mail saying exactly what time the puzzle was accessable in your own time zone. For eastern standard time for excample an e-mail for me would have read 10 am EST.

I can address most of the occurance of not getting into the last puzzle, unless it involves a lag in your server or if your sucurity settings and scan devices slow up your computer.

For anyone who was trying to refresh until it came online, you needed to clear your temporary file of the last attempt, otherwise it will refresh to the same screen that says the puzzle is not available. Until you refresh your cache you will not get into either this puzzle, or if you are lucky enough, the # 22 final.

Remember...if you attempt to reach the puzzle and it is not time for log-in, you must empty your temporary cache (control panel, internet settings, clear cookies, delete files) then you can attempt to get back to the challenge.

This may help someone from not being able to get into the final challenge

Good luck to all finalists

Sassy made a good point in regard to my post. Probably isn't worth the aggravation. Of course we could always make her head of security, I certainly wouldn't want to be on her bad side... Wink

sassy's 'rant'

Sassy, there is now a clear reason you did not win last years challenge; you lack "reason". I don't have a clue why you even mentioned the "time zone thing" in the first place.

and as far as last years winner, putting extra information which does not apply is not the same thing as telling people the race is over and it isn't. And if a person knows how to use a computer to sift out clues better...well that's to his or her benefit and never should they be considered a hacker just because they know more than you or I.

Now Why don't you let me do my job informing people, keeping things on the up and up, and stop being argumentative.
