Re: Questions to Volvo

Dixie, as a Volvo worker, can you answer if all of pretenders will be notified of results or just winners will?

and finaly is there any chance to cancel a previous answer-message (wich is undoubtedly wrong) and send another one, more solid and thought through? Shocked

All contestants were notified via e-mail where to go to on 6/6 to see a list of the winners. so...the answer to your question is "contestants will NOT be notified if they are not in the semifinals, and all contetstants will have the opportunity to see who the winners were. Last year we broadcasted the final 'amazing race' type challenge on Volvocarsus.com, had highlited the finalists, and had marketing work out publicity after the fact.

I have a quick little trivia challenge for anyone interested:

1. Who (what company) did the graphic affects for BOTH years challeges? and

2. who knows what medium was available on line that discribed or showed the complete layout of this years challenge, and

3. what character is on the website for the graphics production and what will he do if you touch him?

Sassy, there is now a clear reason you did not win last years challenge; you lack "reason". I don't have a clue why you even mentioned the "time zone thing" in the first place.

Now Why don't you let me do my job informing people, keeping things on the up and up, and stop being argumentative.

Play nice. No need to get personal.

And if Volvo actually wants someone to do the job of Officially Informing people here on the forums of anything related to the contest, they can send an official representative to contact the forum administrators. Until then, I think the people who are suspicious that you are not an official representative are operating well within the bounds of reasonable skepticism.

1400 UTC is a universal reference, lat/long of the location don't affect it's meaning whatsoever.

Emails to UK stated a time an hour off the real time. Apparently whoever did the math forgot that UK was on daylight savings (GMT+1 instead of GMT). Emails to US had the correct time. I have no information on the 20 other countries.

US emails posted the eastern time. I am in Arizona, but received an email saying that the hunt would begin 10 am eastern time. I don't know if the emails were meant to target each time zone, or just one per country was sent out. Anyhow, according to the rules,

"U.S. Entrants can play The Hunt at any time between 10:00 AM ET on May 4, 2007 and 5:59:59 PM ET on May 30, 2007 and must correctly solve each of the twenty-one (21) Puzzles in a consecutive order."

So the hunt is officially over apparently. Additionally, I know some people were wondering if they could skip the first 20 puzzles and just do the last one, apparently not. Somehow, I guess Volvo is able to keep track if you have indeed completed the puzzles. I don't know anything about computers...so I don't know how they did that but apparently it does matter.

Also, they state that they will ask 10 questions. Does anyone have any idea to the nature of these questions? Are they about game content, your personal life, criminal history, what? Since I won't here them I'm just a little bit curious, because I thought that was interesting to throw that in there.

Guess we shall find out tomorrow.

That sucks I got home from work and started working on it at 5:30 pm PST as I couldn't work on the puzzle any sooner. I think that is somewhat unfair. I guess that is why when I entered my info after I answered the final question it said invalid email address.

Clearly. I am not capable of "reasoning". I could never solve anything so complex as the Volvo Treasure Hunt. Right?

Prolly because I didn't. You did.

well that's to his or her benefit and never should they be considered a hacker just because they know more than you or I.

Maybe YOU don't know how to pull a flash or movie file....in my case it isn't a lack of knowledge, but a surplus of scruples. I'll keep those over a "win" any day.

My "rant" is because I am frustrated by exactly the reasons Phaedra listed. If Volvo wants to have a rep here, they will make it known to the Mods. Anything less than that is dismissable.

Very Happy

If you read the rules of the game, I'm sure some of the questions will be obvious things like "Have you ever been convicted of driving under the influence?", as that's a disqualifying event.

Another possibility is questions about things you would know if you actually did all the puzzles yourself. e.g. "What are the lists of symbols on the painted body used for?"

Re Questions to Volvo

dixiedooh,

In answer to your little trivia quiz;

1 . The production company was Euro RSCG 4D of The Netherlands. I have my suspicions over the producer of the graphic effects but I don't want to spoil the illusion.

2. pdf

3. A white large-eyed robot (probably called Robbie or EFF2) who falls over when touched.

I have had alot of fun with this - got my coordiinates without using help I may add - 311S 12541E which lands you off the west coast of Palau Buru - a lovely tropical island - fits with the theme!!. Bermuda is roughly 32N 64W, and 3111S 2541E is in the middle of South Africa, not much tropical seas there!! I see many of you have the same solution as me, so if its the right one and you did not make the final 20, then make yourself a well earned cup of tea!!

I think the treasure will be buried somewhere of the Indonesian Island chain. Have not seen the film yet - may there is a clue??

Good Luck all.

I was about 3111 N 2541 W actually (all other hemispheres that the World's end is) - and it's somewhere near Azore Islands - what a nice place for tropical adventure either Very Happy

YOU ALL NEED TO TAKE A GOOD LOOK

the bouy = 8 due to the lightning allway striking in the place of the falling bouy.. 2 marks on the bouy are a mirror image, or a flip image and at the end of the strike, is an 8

possible solution would be 31185141 or flipped 35488453

good luck but think again

By the way, check that Volvo didn't used perfectly right coordinates for places (maybe because of using 18th century navigation Wink )
As example the Heard Islnad is not actually 5313 S 7329 E... it's close, but not exact...

Maybe it was done for people who tryed to guess the next location but not so solve a current puzzle
