My answer is also 31112541.

If read as 3'11"S 125'41"E, it puts us off the coast of Papua New Guinea

My Answer

I used the order that they dropped and gave the bottle a value of 0. I struggled with using a base value of 1 but, decided since there were no markings plus, they're floating so high, they would be empty. So, chalk up two for zero's and that is what I used...

For the answer, which is a shot in the dark close to everyone else:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

DROPPING ORDER
3=Arabic symbol on 1st lantern
0=bottle drops
0=bottle drops
0=bottle drops
2=red squares on the bouy
5=Indian symbol on the jug
4=Indian symbol on the latern
0=bottle drops

Thanks everyone, I imagine we'll still be having some dialogue on the finals. Look forward to slapping my forehead with a few of ya...

If you try to submit 0, it will tell you must be in numeric format.

So, answer does not have 0 in it.

Done trying

I even reloaded when from start to finish and still never get anything but final answer, then a pop-up which tells me to enter the eight digit number which I did, then poof, the number went away and then nothing! I don't really think I had the right answer but would have liked to have finished. Oh well, next year I will hopefully figure out what I did wrong....

It was a lot of fun now we need to find another "hunt"...

i submitted an answer w/ zeros in it at 710 and had no problems. this puzzle would have been easy if you could re-submit....i would say the order is
3xx51(or 2 depending on what you got for the buoy)54x
x=whatever you had for bottle.

i also thought left to right, but then i noticed that the 5 jug and 4 lantern actually fall along the same waterline (the white foam) but at different times, so i thought using left to right wasn't correct and used order of falling instead.
so use the 3xx254x instead of the x54x32xx order

however, now that i think about it, if the buoy represented 2 i will be very sad:(

but i still think 710 wasnt a quick enough time regardless, i think a time of like 7:01 or so will win:)

Well I went with the following co-ordinates:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3345 1181

Reason? Because it's just off the coast of Los Angeles, "Tinseltown"
of course. And I figured if they are going to throw lots of media at the
finalists it would make sense to have them close to the studios in order
to drag them in front of all those cameras.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I did 3511 1541
51 being the buoy 5_1.

Just now plotted my coords: 65.23 and 23.59

It's the Bay of Bothnia, neatly close to Volvo's Swedish homeland, well sheltered and easily accessed from Stockholm (and, I'd assume, from Gotteberg as well.)

Wikipedia says this (bolding mine):

Bothnia is a Latinization of Old Norse botn [1], meaning "bottom". The name botn was applied to the Gulf of Bothnia as Helsingjabotn in Old Norse, after Hälsingland, which at the time referred to the coastland west of the gulf. Later, botten was applied to the regions Västerbotten on the western side and Österbotten the eastern side ("East Bottom" and "West Bottom"). The Finnish name of Österbotten, Pohjanmaa, or "Pohja"-land, gives a hint as to the meaning in both languages: pohja means both "bottom" and "north."

Botn/botten is cognate with the English word bottom, and it might be part of a general north European distinction of lowlands, as opposed to highlands, such as the Netherlandic region, Samogitia (Lithuanian), and Sambia (Russia).

A second possibility is that botten follows an alternative Scandinavian connotation of 'furthermost'. Thus, the Gulf of Bothnia would be the farthest extent of the Ocean.

I was also having this trouble - if you're using FireFox, paste the URL into Internet Explorer, and then it worked.

The "submit" button on the Flash movie uses the same type of script as the "bookmark" function, which (if you use FireFox) the original puzzle warn's you won't work (you only get the warning if you're using non-IE, or possibly only FireFox).

So - just copy/paste the URL into Internet Explorer, and submit your answer.

For the record, my wife and I jointly came up with 31112541 also, before checking this forum. Our only concern was the clue message, "from here we spread", and at first thought maybe the buoy with the two red blocks was a "spreader" buoy, and maybe there would be 4 items on each side (or, since there were 4 before, maybe 4 after... but we only saw the 5, the 4, and a bottle go in after....)

We'll see !! It was fun, anyway.
