once you have decrypted this piece of text using my key from chang mai this will be your next mission london on earls court road there is a baggage storage you will need a certain document this can be found on the auction website of ebay find me there and search ebay for the word ihavefoundthekey then use the year you found along with the key as a codeword so i will believe you found the key good luck

I don't know about the rest of you but the way that last clue is worded sounds very awkward to me. In the introduction mp3 file Max spoke relatively normal, not like that. I think it is encrypted somehow.

Also i think we need to fine the key in order to move on. I know it is supposed to be used to decrypt that message, which we already did without it, but I still think we need to find it. And I think "wrong places" is the clue.

There is a "Chiang Mai" in Thailand - but it would be misspelled in the message if that is what he meant.

We love people jumping in!

However, we've already discovered that "Forty-three if eager hate" is an anagram for "the year of the great fire". See grumpyboy's post on the previous page for details.

clue search

Perko wrote:
max1666, maxprescott, and ttocserpxam are all registered E-bay users (!). None of them have any outstanding auctions. The first and last are the suspicious ones. Max1666 has been registered since 2004 but has no feedback. Unless PM is adopting his existing unused accounts, probably not it.

ttocserpxam is very suspicious, as it was created on June 4th, and it seems unlikely anybody else would use that name. However, it shows up as being "no longer a registered user". Hmm. He's supposedly in the Netherlands.

I, like the others, searched for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ihavefoundthekey

without success.

Then I searched for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have found the key

with over 13,000 items as a result.

Then I searched for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have found the key max prescott

and found 2 items - English coat of arms, and 24 more items in ebay store.

http://tinyurl.com/2h7t5e

Don't know if any of it applies.
P.S. I posted on "who is max?" blog under the name of D. I posted there before I realized this forum was here - there is no double identity, just found this forum and new to the games.

I don't believe the 2 result have to do with this since it's supposed to be a document of some kind. Probably to get a package from the baggage storage on Earls Court Road in London.

So, at this point...

Does anyone have any idea where next to go, as "ihavefoundthekey" is not on any of the multiple eBay sites?

I distinctly get the feeling that the ball got dropped somewhere.

I *think* that by grumpyboy bruteforcing the vigenere cipher (no complaints, I would have done the same) we actually skipped a step and are now missing something important. Maybe the PM's though that by using a key backwards ("ecnadiug") we would be unable to bruteforce the cipher. Or, and now I'm thinking this is more likely, they knew that if we DID bruteforce the cipher we'd be unable to move on to the next step (finding the thing on ebay) without first completing the previous step ("the location of my hidden key can only be found if you start your quest in the wrong places"), which is exactly what has happened. Smile

So, I'm thinking that once we find the "key", all we have to is search ebay for "ihavefoundthekey" ("search ebay for the word ihavefoundthekey") + 1666 ("then use the year you found") + key ("along with the key") and we'll find what we need. ie if we discover that the key is "petfood" we'd search ebay for "ihavefoundthekey1666petfood".

As for finding what we've missed, we have "the location of my hidden key can only be found if you start your quest in the wrong places" and a reference to "chang mai". Oh, and the clue was attached to a portrait of Blaise Vigenere. And presumably this will be found on some reasonably popular internet site (as the last ones were, on IMDB and flickr). The use of the words "location" and "quest", plus the fact that "chang mai" is a place in Thailand makes me think maybe we are looking for some kind of travel site. It did make me think of MapQuest, but MapQuest doesn't seem to have the ability to leave comments or anything so I don't see how that could be used.

Storm, I think we have the "key". Its ecnadiug. The only clue we had to find the key was "the location of my hidden key can only be found if you start your quest in the wrong places",

The Chang Mai reference came after the vigenere was solved by brute forcing which makes me think the pm suspected the vigenere would be solved that way and has given us another clue so we can backtrack to find the page the key was hidden on.

I believe someone said this before, but I wonder if "chang mai" is a clue seeing as though the actual place is spelled "Chiang Mai" Or was this just a typo? I don't know

Not sure who the clever person is, but I found this by googling for "ecnadiug".

Dunno if that will work, but if it does kudos to them!

That was me.

Also, I sent a note to that baggage claim place, asking about a package that could have been left behind for someone. Also, I asked what exactly we would need to retrieve said item. This was their response:

Hi,
Thanks for your reply - In order for us to release an item from Storage
we will need the copy of the receipt that would have been given to
Max Prescott - if this person is unable to collect the package himself he
will need to do a letter / email of authority authorising us to release to
yourself - we will also need to have some form of evidence as to who
you are eg passport / driving license etc.. We will also need to have a
full description of the item, colour, size etc & an inventory of the contents.

It took several rounds of emails to get that information, as I'm sure what I was explaining was pretty confusing - not knowing exactly what I was looking for, who it was left by, etc.

I should also be getting an instant notification through eBay if anything is listed with the tag "ihavefoundthekey," and I'll post here, of course, if and when it pops up. Woo!

going back, I think we are going to have to solve the

riddle before we will be able to move on,
Quote:

suggests that wherever the key is, there is also a year, probably other than 1666, that we will also need, probably so max could foil anyone who cracked the vigenere without solving the previous riddle. I have searched myspace, facebook, amazon, imdb and ebay for "thewrongplaces" and have so far come up short.

I found a myspace account, but don't think is is relevant, but I could be missing something:
