Revolving Fingerprints

The New Mystery: Who is the person sneaking into Andrew's office and messing with the fingerprint files now? Huh? Where's our video for that? lol.

After going to smh this morning, and checking the prints, I wondered how they could match someone we hadn't even heard about. I even mailed tech help and asked why the print said Robert Johnson, when my text message from Max said "Hurry, match the fingerprint". If I hadn't come back HERE before going to smh site and entering the supposed "match", I wouldn't have known that the match is NOW to Grant! Because why would I go back and look at the fingerprint when #1)I printed them out early a.m., 2)I would have no indication it would change, and 3)I punched it in several times and it was definitely Robert Johnson. I can't believe this. When I logged on Bright and Early this morning, the fingerprint matched Someone Completely Different than it does now. What about the people who already answered (Sleepless, I think was one of them?), and now she's gone and she doesn't EVEN KNOW (!!!) the print has been changed back to Grant! She's been here ALL WEEKEND LONG (along with many, many others who stayed up way past their bedtimes) and she may have answered based on false and changing so-called facts!

The consensus this morning (when the prints came up as "Robert Johnson") was that the missing seconds on the tape were of Grant changing the fingerprint files. And now, the prints come up as belonging to Grant? Do the office videos even matter anymore? The missing video feed? The other videos where we were supposed to get our clues from? Does any of it? Did Christina go in when we weren't looking and change the fingerprint files to set-up or prove it's Grant? This whole thing is soooo messed up.

Well lucky for me, my husband has been playing all along, (but he didn't know it), so our household gets two chances to guess. (Ok, Applebees, if you disqualify me, and I can't eat there when this is all over, I'll NEVER go! I've invested far too much time in this to lose because I can't understand what your actor is saying! ) It seems like none of the audio or video clues have been even remotely relevant to figuring out the crime, especially if, as another said, it all rests one garbled word.

I think I'm going now.

 Unanswered questions
things that make you go hummmm

I keep wondering why Sonia's video camera is being used by the kidnappers? And in the last video of Andrew after the kidnappers leave why doesn't he try to move his chair to the antidote or use it to break the window out? Is he such a wimp? And why did the police not just ask Akram for their employees fingerprint file? My husband who is a retired police detective has had a good laugh at all the clues and the ineptness of the police. What happened to the little red window decoration that was in the kitchen...I think it is what some call a kitchen witch. Why run off and leave the money? Was it marked? will it be returned to whomever provided it for evidence? Oh and by the way they fixed the fingerprint file back to show grant's fingerprint at 0092709. Why didn't they send us any info on the missing video after we gave them time and day stamp? I am new to ARG's but this has been fun. Thanks for all your help and input everyone.

Deep Focus Isn't a Game Design Company
Critique

I hope this posts. I've been trying for days, yet nothing I post to Unfiction sticks.

Anyway, if you check out the website for Deep Focus, you'll discover they're an entertainment marketing company, not a game design company. This is why this game was so completely farked in every way (e.g., they didn't protect their game assets, they made it too easy, they didn't anticipate people finding things so quickly). If an honest-to-goodness game design company of some kind or another had done this, we'd be having very different conversations about now.

So please, stop thinking about this game. It's not going to hang together no matter how much brain juice you give it. They screwed up. They dropped the ball. Forget about Sonia's camera, the fingerprints, the missing video footage -- it's all a massive screw up. Applebees and CourtTV hired marketing people, not game designers.

The Grinder's assessment of the game is totally right on. I just hope the sponsors are reading this forum. They ought to be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for hiring an incompetent company to run something that obviously had a certain level of visibility. I hope they learn from it.

 Andrew's location

I vote for Cherry Street. The audio is horribly unclear, but I think Cherry Street is the more logical assumption. The game has been pretty straight forward thus far, and none of the answers have really been that difficult to interpret or find. With that in mind, I don't think we should try to make the answer more complicated than it is. I think extrapolating "curvy" to mean Curvasand highway is a reach. First of all, it does not sound like the kidnapper is including a "v" sound in the word he is speaking. Also, the kidnapper definitely says "street." Why would he refer to a highway as a street? Therefore, I think "Cherry street" is a better choice. I just wish the creators had been more clear; it sucks that the whole game is coming down to an almost inaudible 2 seconds of audio. I really think this is the best answer, the game has been so simple up to now that it is illogical to assume the final answer would be some outlandish complex solution.

Personally, I am glad this frustrating game is going to be over. Also, I am rejoicing that I will not have to listen to any more of Christina's inane pleadings. Honestly, was this woman the best they could find? I've seen better acting in elementary school plays.

Oh well, at least it will all be over tomorrow. Thank God this game was only 8 days!

What do you mean buried in paperwork? he says the papertrail is a mile long, nothing about being buried in it.

I would love to see a poll for people playing this for the FIRST time ever. I bet you'd be amazed. And they are seeing APPLEBEES SUZUKI COURT TV advertising EACH day while they are playing.

If it were harder than it actually was, as a first timer, I wouldn't have followed through with it.

I have no answers - only assumptions - according to Sonia's blog, she has dated married men, had a crush on a guy at work, and has been hit on by several other men lately. She was with one who didn't want to go "as far" as she did after the kissing phase.... It could have been this guy who stole her video camera from her house. OR, if Grant is the guy she liked at work, and started a relationship with him, she may be doing it with him.

Nobody brought the $$ to pay the ransome - that was the killer meeting to pay the kidnappers their fee, but he killed them instead. But you're right about the money - if you bring $$ to pay someone off, and then kill that someone, aren't you going to collect all the evidence - money, briefcase, weapon AND video camera - before you leave the scene of the crime?

I guess they thought they would offend some people if they had a "witch" in the photo, although some who discussed the missing item thought it was a parrot. Nobody was ever sure. Some even called THAT the "red" herring.

Too much, too funny, and too much time for it to not really matter in the end. How can I have played this for 8 days, at the end of which I'm going to tell my husband, who has at times been very patient, (and at others not so much!) that none of my sleuthing mattered!

Applebees, you got some es'plainin' to do!

Really, I can't wait till tomorrow when we can all come back and see how we were right, and how we weren't. (They Better Tell Us in Detailed Explanation!) I expect to see a press conference on Christina's site!

My guess

Hey gang! After a crazy weekend of memorial services, receptions and trying to keep up with the forum, I'll weigh in (please forgive me if anything I say has been said a hundred times before -- uF is so bogged down right now that it takes two minutes to load each page and I've given up trying to read all the posts!)... I've thought it was Grant for a long time now, and the Grinder did post something to that effect a loooong time ago. I'm also going to go with Cherry Street, and not because it sounds like the kidnappers say that (because I think it sounds like Curry, too! And I'm from NY!), but because the killer says, "I knew you would try connecting this back to me." Since I think it was Grant, it has to be one of Zendorel's real estate holdings, which leaves the possibilities of "Curvasand Hwy" and "Cherry Street." How many pharmaceutical companies are built at the docks? I can't think of any; so that leaves Cherry Street, as so many others have said. If we're right, then we can pool our $1s together and get some artichoke dip. If not, then may I send a heartfelt "Congratulations!" to the winner!

But mostly, I'd like to say thanks so very much to the regulars to the SMH forum -- your humor and thrill for the chase made all of this well worth my time and effort. I hope to run into you in a future ARG!

I think this was far from an "EFFECTIVE marketing strategy." It was so poorly done that I can't help but think less of its sponsors for being apart of it.

I know that if we all do end up with Applebee's coupons, I won't be using mine. I'd be too afraid that they'd switch my order around half-way through the day or I wouldn't be able to understand what the heck my waitress was saying so I would have to record her to playback at different speeds.

Also, seeing how all the characters love Applebee's so much and they all have half-a-brain cell between them, I'd be afraid that the food might be the cause of it.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Deep Focus was in fact paid with free Applebee's food. That would certainly explain a lot.

 FINGERPRINT LINK(S)? WHICH ONE?
DISCOVERY?

I just noticed that if I use the 401 k link or the other
TWO links to search the fingerprints, the prints match Grant Tenbrook.

However, if I use the Remote Access, it's Robert Johnson.

Which is the correct link for the correct database? Any ideas?

Anyone else see this? Shocked

All those links lead to the back door, but which is correct especially if there are different answers?

I understand what you're saying, Pixie, but as a former game designer myself for things of this nature, I don't hold down the bar just because it's "marketing." It's poor marketing if they don't get their demographic. True, it might have needed to be simpler in some ways for new people, but the savvy players are unhappy and they are the core audience that brings in the greater, less savvy audience. DF screwed up the design so badly that nothing hangs together in the end. And frankly, saying it's "just marketing" lets them off the hook for delivering shoddy product. We can't do that. There's a sense of decency in creating something good and these guys failed.
