=)

LOL the character limit is annoying and it's true that twitter is far from secure..
The only truly nice thing about it is that my phone receives an instant text message the second he posts anythings. =D

I don't know that it will freak him out though. Night everyone...
We'll see what crazy dreams I have when I wake.

The problem right now is we know what we're looking at and we know what we're looking for. We just don't know what it looks like.

Germain was our best lead for discovering the password format. I was trying to figure out whether we could go back to Karla for input, given that she may have used secure drops with Allan. I don't think that's an option since Germain is Pete, Karla's co-editor. If he's out of play, then she probably is too.

I'm going to pin my hopes on RoyalThames having half a clue about the likely password format.

I actually think 1)that Germain was Mike the Poet or Pete & 2) that we can still use Karla to get in contact with him...

From re-studying all past correspondences with fresh eyes it seems like Germain was a single agent in a cell which Karla and Pete were a part of. I don't see how it could hurt us to have zizka try to contact Karla.

I think we should have Karla pass a message stating what we know to this point requesting a one time only "secure" drop off of info regarding the password from Germain, the medium by which he passes us the info of his choice. I've thought of how doing this would hurt Germain and I can't find a way in which it would. Theres many ways to one-time drop stuff on the web if you are knowledgeable and careful.

Germain=Pete. That's pretty much confirmed by the email used to contact him. The name associated with it was Pete Hutchens, the address was germain10SPLATgmail.com. That's one reason to rule out Karla. Reason two is that RoyalThames wanted us to leave her out of our progress once she connected us with Pete. Karla didn't seem to be part of the cell at all.

If Zizka is willing to email her, then he should do so, by all means. I don't think contact would hurt Germain. What I think is that he's too skittish to have much more to do with us, regardless of cost-benefit. I don't see that we lose anything by trying to use her. However, I doubt it'll produce anything.

I'm a weird one

I have a bad habit of shoving round objects into square holes until they fit =(

Thank you mortality. Someone has to keep me grounded =)

(How does the editor of a paper disappear? Absurd and very surreal. How exactly is he paying his bills?)
I wonder what Thalberg is up to.

Complementary skill sets are a wonderful thing.

If you recall, the Heaven is a Secret paper is on hiatus while they open the new site and transfer content. So his absence wouldn't really be noticed by anyone other than Karla. And I recall that she said he ends up traveling a lot, anyhow.

I got sick of pounding my head against the keyboard, so I searched for Peter Hutchens. Kind of apropos that they chose Focus on Film as the blog name. "Why" you ask? Because the real Pete Hutchens used to be a cameraman for Discovery Channel and also produced something for National Geographic.

Best I can do for now:

Quote:
I've heard a funny story I think you'd like, but I can't recallt the punchline. I have a feeling that one of your associates would know it if he heard the story, but the old theater where we used to meet has been closed--it became a fire hazard, it seems.

I don;t have any better contact info for karla. I think perfidy had been point on that.

I am hopeful that the PMs will throw us a bone somehow.

ETA: those numbers look like a credit card number to me. or a software license code. Neither is a very good idea :[

I tried translating TouTouke's name thinking it might mean something.. The only translations I could find where on Urban dictionary.. and they aren't PG rated. lol

Zizka was supplying the text of his correspondence to Karla. It'll have to do.

If the password is in a foreign language, it's probably Finnish.

I think the discrepancies about Moomins are a bit of a reach. No puzzle solutions have required such extraordinary logical leaps. Everything has been pretty simple and logically based off the clues in front of us. The most convoluted one was finding RoyalThames on Twitter, and the solution was much more obvious than all the random connections we went looking for. The difficulty with the cipher wasn't its complexity, but rather its novelty.

The more sophisticated we try to make our thinking on the puzzles, the more we drive ourselves up the wall. Clever, simple solutions are what we're looking for.

The backstory is another matter. We can go nuts on that and still be rewarded.

Anyway, Moomins are about Scandinavia generally but are most popular in Finland. The reference just means we should keep Finland in mind. Just like Allan speaking Polish at SXSW meant we should consider foreign languages, not necessarily Polish, to find Autumn Cafe. Plus, everything else we've received in the game points to Finland, not Sweden.

Im here

mort... I don't know what you wanted me to add.. there has been nothing new since the end of July. (map update and twitter comments) And I didn't add speculation to mine, because it would be way too long.

I think we should follow the "moomins" comment. RT says someone mentioned it ? (I think not) Moomins books were originally written in Swedish. Even though other was in Finnish, I don't think we should rule out any language yet. (and it's possible that those two languages are similar?)

The Unwanted Guest seems to be a title of one that would fit everything we are doing. (It was the only one not translated into english.) There is also one titled The Dangerous Journey.

Here's the wikipedia link....even though I know you all know how to find it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moomins

Moomins must be little trolls. The picture he mentioned is of a bridge. Only story I can think of is Billy Goats Gruff. I am sure that is no help, but that's what it reminds me of. Trolls and bridges. RT did mention that it was over a "large span of water" ....should we be looking for another river?

We didn't mention Moomins, we mentioned that Allan had been to Finland. Finland is the land of the Moomins. No big mystery there.

Let me know if you stop by.

At autumn cafe, that is the other post there. Did anyone else leave a message? I left a message that said I stopped by....but it still says "your comment is awaiting moderation"

Not I. Figured that since the purported author of the site isn't alive, that was kind of a dead end, so to speak.
