purloined letters

This is a strange little piece of information I got from an old guy that started talking to me about a year ago.
The Purloined Letter was an allegory of the Arc of the Covenant.

Probably useless, but ideas are rare these days, so I donate mine.

Osprey

Did you know that there is Osprey Sunglasses? Haven't found any websites that look suspicious yet. I am thinking surveillance sunglasses, camera lenses, spy equipment....stuff like that. Even if its wrong, it will keep me busy a few days.

so seifer, are you saying that John Green is also posting on this site? isnt a character in the game posting on sites...... unorthodox in the very least, if not forbidden????

It is indeed what I am saying. I'm saying the name of the game here is surveillance. I don't thikn it far fetched that we are being watched here. I had long had my suspisions of someone and I had previously discussed it with other members and after watching that persons posts they too were suspicious. And for him to address me by my screen name on this forum instead of by name which he had been using is definatly out of place. And to make it clear my yahoo email name and this screen name are completely diffferant.

I'm not saying that I can't be wrong here because maybe I am but I feel strongly about the fact that we are being watched here and how Mr. Green knows every move that has been planned about emailing him. I think we can all agree as far as contacting him has been concerned there has been nothing that he hasn't been prepared for. So take it for what you will. I will also tell you that after people started emailing Mr Green said suspect hasn't put another post on this board. I find that to be a liitle suspicious too.

Puppetmasters are allowed to watch unfiction. It's a great (and sometimes the only) way for them to gauge how the game is progressing from a player's point of view. What they aren't allowed to do is post on unfiction or use unfiction in game (see the Terms of Service).

Unfiction is supposed to be a safe place for players to discuss the game without having to worry about repercussions in the game. If a puppetmaster needs an in game forum they should either create their own or find a public forum without such restrictions.

Well if Green's using OOG discussion to help him IG, then we really need to get going on that organised group is all I can really say. If we can use a different medium to discuss our approach, then maybe we can make more headway with him.

The words for the URL might be on the underside of the awning, just like the purloined letter. If anyone lives by that sundry store, look at the underside of the awning.

If we're being watched here, I would reccomend that we start an IRC channel to communicate amongst ourselves. watch #uf, it should be up by tonight.

One benefit of posting in the forums is that it helps other players here follow along with the game. Right now I am just catching up with the game. I find I like John Green's style. Smile

All the posts from the players are so helpful in following the game when you can't be actively playing.

I don't think the PM will use any unfiction information "against" us. But then again, I have no idea who the PM is.

Well the reference to seifer's UF screenname in emails, and references to us being connected to seifer seem to indicate that he is using discussions held here IG.
We just have to hope that his alias over here doesn't click on to the chat as well.

I don't think we're saying not to use the forums. We can still post updates on vital clues and discoveries, but it's probably best if discussion of private correspondance and our strategies on things concerning that should be more contained so that he does not have access to it.

Are we still posting here? OK, I did another search and found a very interesting site that may be related. I did a search for Osprey handbag operation. It brought me to an espionage site that has an ad for Osprey handbags on it with this message:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
.::Plot::.
A new terror has been born and its name is Osprey, this worldwide evil network has stolen, killed and ruined nations and their people. In the middle of all the darkness there is hope, an elite order made up of the worlds finest anti terror and special forces have come together to stop this eminent evil. Who will you join? The Smart slick Osprey whose ambition is money and power or the Order of the Fox whose job it is to stop Osprey? Maybe you find yourself as an outsider, a small town investigator or a Hitman looking for work; even a civilian that doesn't have anything to do with Osprey.

So what do you think?

Private messages between players sort of defeats the purpose of uF.

A good PM follows along in uF to see where he/she is getting his/her point across, or to figure out where he/she needs to steer the players if they are getting off track. A good PM does NOT reference anything in uF unless a player has told a character that information. If a player has not shared anything or emailed anything (or posted anything on an IG forum), then the character cannot know about that information. PERIOD.

If the PM does not follow those guidelines, then they are not "getting" the purpose of uF and he/she needs to rethink how to interact with the players.

If players aren't sharing what they say/write to a character, you don't know what has been told to that character. Sure, there are players who do not post on uF (and sometimes ARGs are played out on other discussion forums, but usually someone in uF links to the other gaming forum and information is shared back & forth - ala Neowin for VanishingPoint and stuff in YearZero).

OOG Chat rooms are useful for brainstorming, chit-chatting comments and jokes; good for META spec & discussions. Sometimes a PM has a "spy" in the chat room, sometimes there isn't. You could also create a chat room that is IG and characters are invited in to interact IG. Sometimes the PM sets up these IG forums or chats just for that purpose.
