I got this Today

Date: Jul 5, 2007 3:12 PM

Subject: RE: Newspaper

Sorry I haven't replied before today. I've been neglecting myspace page. I worked for the Morning New in Rogers, Arkansas. My photos have been in Arkansas Democrat and Arkansas Gazette when it was still around. But mainly the Morning News of Rogers and Springdale. You will need to go back to the years of 1990-1996. And the photos will be listed as Allan Portman of the Morning News. You read my profile. Very few people ask about my photography. Are you also a photojournalist?

Just curious, but what newspaper did you work for? I'd enjoy seeing some of the photos you did if they can be pulled up online.

Fastest way to contact me is omitted .
Thank you for your time.
Sebring

Pretty sure that exempts him from the list..
I'm going to tell him I'm a college journalist and I heard his band play, saw the site, wanted to check out his work.. tell him how great it is and let him off the hook.

E-mail from Allan Portman
Just received

I just received an e-mail from this Allan Portman:
http://www.myspace.com/allanportman

I asked him to join "my" myspace site where I help promote my son's music. He used to play in S. Fl as well, and thought he may be interested. I also asked him if he ever lived in Washington DC (didn't jpike live in washington DC or work in washtington DC?)

Here was his answer:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I lived in Washington DC for a summer back in 1975 but you wouldn't have known me I,m quite certain. ....... Playing with Cichlids again new project simialar to this music on this web page. Who am I talking with?
Allan Portman
Edited: I don't really think, after getting a 2nd e-mail from him that he is in Game as he gave no other clue - but then again I could be wrong.

So now what? Does anyone want me to ask anything else? I don't even know if he is in the game or not.

Edited spoiler to reflect the point that I received a 2nd e-mail and there was absolutely no clue regarding the game. I am thinking he is not in the game.

So that's Allan?

I got his from AllEn:

Wow! That's pretty amazing. There are not many Portman's in the U.S. There are many Portman's in the UK. I have never worked for a newspaper. I spent 22 years (retired early) as a professional firefighter. It is sort of like the military, once you put 20 years in you can retire. I am also an RN specializing in trauma and emergency care. When I am not doing the nursing thing, I am in the studio (like right now) working on projects. I am not old enough yet to draw my firefighting retirement, but once I am, I will be doing the recording studio thing on a full-time basis. Take care and keep in touch!

Allen

Myspace looks like a dead end. Also, be aware that Allan's SFlorida band split in like 1980 and played one reunion show in 2006 or 2007, so as you're gracefully extracting yourself, make sure you get the dates right. Very Happy

I think we all owe The Effect an apology, since he hit Spandau Ballet in the first three posts after the band clue surfaced. I found a few papers with sections called "Lifeline." I will scour song titles and X-ref them tomorrow, work permiting. Need to spend some time catching up on the new crumbs, too.

So Far

I'm not new to ARG's, just this site.
And i've spent all day following this.
Now that i'm up to speed, i'm amazed with all you have come up with.
Add me to the roster, Peter Parker at your service!
(Yeah, i know about emailing you with my email).
I think there may be something we're overlooking to this 80's clue though.
And i know this is late, but outta curiosity, did anyone ever get through on the Westin #?
Just wondering, don't bite my head off.
Now i'll go se what i can dig up...

3:30 a.m. and leads are slowing

Above post is mine, btw.
I've been looking for what feels like forever.
I agree that Yazoo and Sandau Ballet are our best leads,
But the real mystery involves searching for them.
Real small-time papers don't end with "newspaper",
They end with TONS of things, ranging from Tribune to Times, to Gazette!
Say we find said song name, how do we know its right?
Most searh engines post "most popular" first,
Aren't we looking for something most recent?
But then again, we might have to be looking up an old article..

Bands, again

I think we were on the right track initially with "spandau," but we were a bit too clever for our own good. It didn;t help that Yazoo was such a perfect match. Razz

I think we were given a gentle gnudge back on track. I'm about to start digging on the spandau lead as soon as I get a chance.

I'm digging into the 4adora page and got the whois info.

registered to Mark Mireles who has teh following myspace pages:
http://www.myspace.com/markmireles
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=35663867
http://www.myspace.com/mireles

The first seems most used.

I also ran www.4adora.com through the time machine at www.archive.org/index.php . I just can't decide whether this is in or out. Sad It could be that our people are using some defunct band's website as a safe place to hide info. Could also be that Mark Mireles is using it to store some side work.

I've come to know a lot about Mr. Mirels and the various Mssrs. Portman. . . I really hope no one ever includes my name or anything accidentally related to me in a future ARG Wink

I'm at a loss here

I've used the internet to search for anything remotely connected to "Allan Portman" and am coming up dry, besides the leads we've exhausted already, and I've searched everywhere for any type of newspaper/underground journal/etc that has any part of any song off the "Spandau Ballet" TRUTH record.
I'm just flat out coming out empty handed. I've poured over enough source code and journalistic listing sites to make my fingers numb and my eyes itch.

I'm going to pour over the deviant art sections "Jade Macalla" mentions in his audio clip.

Maybe I can alleviate my feeling shafted by clues so obscure they're unfindable.

i hate to come empty handed. . .

I've gotten about 1/2 way through a thourough re-read of the clues and speculations so far. I am surprised at what I had missed so far and am confident that the remaining 1/2 will offer some insights on the solutions. When I get the info synthesized and organized, I'll try to make a solid recap post and include, separately, my speculations. For now, however, off to the land of video games: no puzzles, just pounding. Very Happy

Nowhere Fast

I've been following useless leads all day, with nothing to show....
My eyes are shot.
Calling it a day.
Good luck

4hrs later

I think my ears are starting to blister and my eyes are still itching...
I watched ALL the Portfolio episodes and U vs. Me videos and audio files I could find ( everything I could find for Jade) and there is Nothing in them that will help us with this mystery.. Great guy, but no clues there.

Off to hear some local music and consume some accompanying adult beverages.
Cheers,
We'll rack our brains again soon!!

??

Maybe we need to use the song names to spell something else? tpetal specifically said "songS" (more than one). Also, he said st kits was quiet....so maybe perfidly1947 (sry, cant remember his name) should go there and ask more questions.

Or we wait for something to show up on wordpress?

...

so far, i have nothing. im trying to figure out of we even need to look at any of the songs. what if he mentioned the song [or songs] in passing to blend the subject of that band into his blog post so it wouldnt stand out? however, i dont know if maybe the lyrics would hint at something. perhaps someone could ask him what his favorite song is... because you like the band too [?]. just a thought.
has anyone found any headway on larry or tpetal?

well, im off to figure SOMETHING out.... probably wont happen... Confused

anagrams

I tried anagrams of the first letter in all the names of all the songs on the "Truth" album and theres nothing there work pursuing. Some funny phrases but nothing a paper would be named.
