FoF Update

Tristan updated the 7/17 post again to say he may have found the location of the impound where Allan's camper is held. He said he'd check in by 1130. So we should have news by early this afternoon.

I'm struck by a sense of foreboding about that time. Like it's pretty obvious that something bad will happen to him, he'll miss the time deadline, and we'll have another tragic update on our hands.

i agree...

mortality: yeah, i agree. then we will have to follow their death to get to Allen's Rolling Eyes
oh well... thats the fun of it i guess.
so i also agree with the fact that everything is a little confusing lately..... i think im holding up though. i havent posted because i have no idea what to say.
so Allen is dead, by suicide [which i doubt]. if someone did kill him, they'd had to of found out where he lived. we should ask pete if anyone else has talked to him about Allen [and osprey].
about the petal/ thorn/ calyx thing... i dont know what to think. on one hand, of course someone would try to be tpetal. [but they would have to found out where to find him before he got there or before we did]. on the other hand, if this imposter was smart enough to find him, why would he need to impersonate him to get information from him? if anything, he would impersonate US to get the info from HIM.
that doesnt make sense to me. im not totally sure both arent tpetal. it doesnt seem like they are both him, but it isnt entirely impossible. the whole calyx=kidney, kidney=hoax thing confuses me. im not sure where the kidney=hoax came from. ive read everything, but as i said, im a little off here.

thats my ramble for now. Smile
sorry if i confused anyone.... i might not have made much sense... big circlular reasoning Laughing

In preparation of a solid summary, I gathered all of the links I could think of. Am I missing any?

[spec] What's in the box

As I mentioned to zizka, I suck at codes. But I really like this type of thing. Since the PMs have put a lot of little details in the things they say, I'm figuring that there are a lot of details in the box as well, so I started an inventory of what you can see with some comments. I started at the top corner and worked to the right and kinda broke it into a top half of the image and a bottom half (this is from the image of the whole box).

I don't think this is spoiler stuff, but I am definitely speculating on several of the objects.

Top Half of Image

- Wooden cross with what appears to be a dried flower: Can't tell what kind of flower for sure, but could be a rose bud (Citizen Kane! Wink ). Looks like some sort of cord or wire attached to the cross.

- Three coins: Two have square punchouts (Chinese?), the other has a figure (I think female from the neck).

- Crossed arrows badge or pin?: Didn't know what this was at first, the lighting is weird but one part definitely looks like an arrow and I think probably crossed arrows. I did a google image search on "crossed arrows" and found this link: http://www.ghostrecon.net/html/recon-sfg.html that has an image near the bottom of the page that looks a lot like what is in the box . The site is for Ghost Recon and it identifies the emblem as "The Special Forces Crest".

- Torn business card: Already discussed

- Map of Finland: (Under the coins) Several people have mentioned this.

- Map of Washington (Under the map of Finland): Wasn't sure it was a map at first but you can make out the words; "Attrac", "Shop", "Dinin" & "Enter" between the two images.

- Concert Ticket, Adam Ant: I agree with coffeebean on the location as The Masquerade in Ybor City. But fairly recent news articles say The Masquerade is shut down. And I haven't heard of Adam Ant doing anything in a long time.

- Post card of Helsinki, Finland: (Under the cross) Looks like a post card, and Tristan mentioned post cards in the box. It also looks like another post card under the one with the boats. I can only make out what looks like the bottom on an "L" and an "A"; probably another one from Finland, but can't tell from where.

- Three pencils, 1 mechanical (drafting?) and 2 normal (Faber Castell - German?):

- Blank notebook: Unruled, Moleskine? (per Tristan)

- Marble or pebble?: Smooth round object, hard to tell the color.

- Pocket knife: Looks weird, what are those three button things on the side?

- US Passport: (Under marble and knife)

Bottom Half of Image

- Brocade holder/pouch?: Possibly pens inside it. Looks too short for chopsticks.

- Metallic, rectangular object?: Smooth, rounded corners. No idea what this might be.

- Pencil Sharpener: Makes sense with the two pencils

- Post-it page tabs (red and yellow):

- Something orange: The color might suggest a highlighter, but it would have to be very small. Fits with the tabs and pencils, though, for writing and research.

- Glasses w/sunglass clips: We can assume that Allen wore glasses.

- Another Map?: (under Finland and Washington) Can see the word Calgary. Possibly a map of Canada?

- Miniature figure: An archer. Was Allen a gamer? This seems really odd.

- Key: Can't see it very well because of the postcard, but it looks like it has a round body.

- Another stone or pebble?: Can't see it very well under the archer.

- Picture: Sort of a locket. Looks like a young boy.

That's all I can see. Haven't had much time to think about what, if anything, any of these things might mean. Please add to this if I missed anything or if you have different ideas of what something is.

chinchins post

The archer is a plastic Native American common in dime stores.
The knobs on the knife are a part of the construction, they are whats holding it together.
The pencils are standard for professionals who do sketches, purchasable damn near anywhere.
The notebook IS moleskin.
The helix crossed container has got me stumped. I have no idea what it is, but its odd that one brass bump is more raised than the other. Any one recognize it?
The key is the hollow tipped round type commonly for lockers and some padlocks. There are many things this could be to.

It seems like some of these are things he had sentimental value for.
I wasn't sure if Raja was Raju, but I'm leaning to Raju too.

Re: i agree...
why to impersonate and thoughts on contents

Mystic: the idea isn't to get information from Petal, but to get information from us that is meant for Petal. They could also spread disinformation to us and put us on the wrong track.

Kidney=calyx. Calyx is a medical synonym for kidney. On HIAS there is a post about a TV program that created a fake reality contest for a kidney transplant. Pretty easy logical jump: calyx alias is fake. Petal also implied that the name calyx might be compromised.

Anyway, waiting on a response from Thorn at LT...Perfidy may have to tell Thorn that other people are trustworthy. In fact, it seems that all our contacts should have a deputy point person. Stuff comes up, ya know?

Stuff in box:
Washington: isn't that where one of John Green's email addres was from? @washington.usa.com.

Canada: Germain's site mentions Canada frequently. I seem to recall Pete being there at some point. Or maybe Petal told us that Allan was there. And someone mentioned that the coordinates on a piece of collateral were in Canada.

Well it's 11:43 WY time...looks like Tristan might be late in updating. This is not good.

Anyone check out the timeline I created? Thoughts? Opinions? Complaints? Suggestions?

The Canada map is of the "Medicine Hat' area of Alberta.

The "Washington" item isn;t a map but an Area guide type magazine--an add rag available at hotels and airports with always favorable reviews of restaraunts, etc.

I inverted the colors on the arrow pendant; it appears to say "Be Oppress…" but I couldn't read any further letters. I can;t find anything matching the description, but I will look more later.

The second stone (non-round) may be malachite. I will look into that.

I think the helix brocade item may be a puch, too. The things inside may be pens (or may not be) with one extending a little further out. Sure do wish I had some idea what that little orb-looking container was. Too small for a match case.

Anyone know the coin wit hthe female head? My money (Razz) is on either Canada or UK.

Tristan's findings and Germain's Response
Joy. He's alive.

Tristan updated the 7/17 post on FoF: No luck on the camper. He was late with the post because he spotted another scout playing a tourist. Thinks the other guy's a pro. Other guy was working solo, so not sure of what the interest was.

Germain updated the 7/18 post: told Tristan to wait for Germain to check other things.

Calais update

New message in Calais posting:
Quote:
[miller]

Sit tight, stay low. I want to check on a couple things. More this evening. G

More updates forthcoming, today.

Why is every post labeled with a different tag in brackets?
I think we need to keep track of those.
Here's the list of tags and date as far as I can see:

071707-1654
[hughes]

071807-1025
[garrigues]

071807-1725
[lister]

071807-2236
[ridings]

071907-1205
[ross]

(7/18 - Calais)
[glascoe]

(7/18 - Calais)
[miller]

Question to anyone who contacted Germaine:
Are there more tags in previous messages?
Question

clicky
clicky, too

Brax: I think the tags are date and time tags. The bracketed words seem to be authentication codes, though in the emails, they do not appear in brackets.

I think the punctured coins are Chinese, which makes sense. One of the collateral files had coordinates associated with China.

No, it didn't. Someone just mixed up W and E coordinates. Wink

There are Finnish coins with holes, too. But they could be from another country, I don't know a lot about coins.
