 just another status report
no breakthroughs, sorry!

zizka:
You forgot to include the pws in the spoiler. Wink
I couldn't figure them out.

Do you think those are of any relevance or just add to the atmosphere? Or perhaps they are there to enforce the pw method? If it's the same as usual, which I guess it isn't or I'm just stupid. Rolling Eyes

Maybe not important, but
Quote:

Located in the financial and entertainment districts, the CAA/AAA Four Diamond Sheraton Centre Toronto is connected to PATH, a 16-mile underground network of shops and services.

That's nice!

I wonder about those confirm codes. They probably figure into future codes?

Regarding remailer out of Maryland:
There is at least one location in Maryland - The National Health Institutes
That's where Julian got his implant.

The cipher
Zizka's idea doesn't jump me, I have to admit (still don't get what you did with the letters), but the result at least look like they could anagram to something. I ran it through an anagram tool and I can't see anything, except for "Hotel Yon", but there is no such thing, I believe.
I tried to work from Zizka's starting point with odd one out, then just subtract/add as given in the key and ended up with
BXBIDVNJ
Now, that certainly can't work with just one vowel in it. Sad

LT post
I tried "kingston-upon-thames" and "kingstonuponthames" both as replacement for FoF in the Wordpress URL and as profiles on LT. No luck.
But it sounds like the correct solution to that part of the riddle.

Recalling T's strange typo post
That can't be coincidental, it still bothers me a lot. But so does the Raju number.
I can't see any pattern in that post. Some letters are missing, others are replaced, yet others additional (I think, would have to check, though).

Raju Runoilija number
Just for the record...I tried to phone spell it, but nothing gives. I have no knowledge whatsoever about looking up an existing number. Really no idea if this might possibly be a real number.

the PWs follow the same basic pattern: post#, day, first three letters of country, month. It was the post # that was tricky.

so for the sweden post it was
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
329swe11
for the other,

63can3
.
I think they're not directly connected to what we're working on.

I hope tp spend some more time on the AP letter when my brain is refreshed, but if I make no progress by tomorrow afternoon, I'll leave it for a day or so. There are many more things to consider, even if that one seems especially enticing.

ETA:

He got it, but he's pretty sure it's capable of broadcasting. He is
able to jam it, but that means he is also jamming his own comms, so
updates will be rare until he gets to where he's going. He is driving
it to one of our technical people, but it's a long haul so it will be
a couple days before we know anything.

Have you had any luck with the 2nd letter?

FoF passwords

It's not "post #" for the first digit. It's the day of the week. Mon=1; Sun=7.

Thank you, I may take you up on that; but only as a last resort. I would hate to abuse your kindness?

Are you familiar with this type of thing? Can you place the year? The rhyme scheme is odd, the metre is strange, and some of the imagery is bizarre (Twittering teeth? Who ever heard of Twittering teeth? If anything was going to Twitter, I would have thought those beetle wings more likely). And I suppose I shall have always to wonder what word is inscribed on the book.

Oh well, it's very, very late. Best be getting home from my club before they kick me out. Pity, though; the view of Hyde Park is lovely at this time of night.

Ta, then. I hope you'll leave a note if you know anything about the poem.

Google is KING .... (IMO)

Twitter is made by a company called Obvious. South Park, San Fran, CA

Poem

Twitter.com makes sense. The time stamp on Samgrass's two posts are between 9-10. What's the timezone on LT? Someone should watch twitter at those times. Think tpetal's identity on twitter will use kingston-upon-thames as the location? Hyde Park is definitely a reference to London. K-u-T is too far from Hyde Park to really have a view of it.

http://twittermap.com/search/ might help us find him.

http://twittermap.com/maps didn't show anything for kingston-upon-thames

If we can guess tpetal's new name, we can just plug it in at the end of http://www.twitter.com/[name here]

Hellhounds and banshees wailing on moors could be a reference to Hound of the Baskervilles...big stretch.

The poem only has the 2nd and 4th lines of each verse end in rhyme.

I think Janus refers to the two-faced god, not the creator of skype. Two-faced=perfidy. Friend of perfidy would be tpetal.

Tpetal has basically called himself nameless before.

Samgrass went out of the way to mention Lovecraft in the first post. The most famous tome mentioned in Lovecraft's works is the Necronomicon. That's supposed to be housed in the British Museum. It doesn't quite have a view of Hyde Park, I don't think.

..and I'm truly lost beyond that.

twitter this ...

I signed up at twitter, but all it does is give a sentence about what you are doing now? I can't make any kind of blog, as far as I can tell, so maybe I am overlooking something, because there is no way that anyone could communicate with us, or store files there....

One old subject, and I have re-read, but do not know if anyone has addressed this or not. In AP's obit, in HIAS, his only relative is his UNCLE, in france, Jean Delacroix. On germains blog, he said AP's only relative was his AUNT in New Mexico, and that is where they sent the body and his stuff.....should we be trying to locate the items? In France or New Mexico? Or one of his relatives?

Uncle/Aunt

Could be they're trying to throw Green and OIS off the trail.
Or I could be wrong.

Still trying to figure out the cypher. The amount of number and the amount of dotted letters is not helping. I'm stumped.

Re: twitter this ...

The aunt is the real relative. Germain said not to follow the body. We already know what items she's getting. Anything else was already taken by Green's goons. When I checked last week, the only reference to Jean Delacroix I could find were two or three paragraphs in a Dumas book.

Twitter: Twitter stores the messages you post. They're searchable by keyword as well as location, I provided a link to a search site. You can reply directly to them, as well. To see the messages being posted you need to click the public timeline. You can also send secure messages directly to a user.

Received a brief status from T via land line; he is still on target

We have finished testing on the hosted site I mentioned previously and
find it to be secure. If you provide the contact e-mails we will
construct the site.

Post here or PM me, whichever you prefer. I have some of your addresses already, btu put them up again, because I *will* forget someone otherwise.

cypher

might have something.

sort letters MCBP are all part of first word
IO second word
DTEET third word

Go to reg alphabet, and use first column on letters that correspond with row they came from (example: M = first row = -2 = K)(c = -3)(B=+2)(P=+2))

I get the word DARK for first word.

I believe second word to be ON

but that leaves a terrible word for last word(upike or pikeu).....still
working.
*c-3 is not A.... back to the drawing board...sorry

nice work coffee, I'll maybe work some variations on this today. I was beginning to despair.

Don't forget to get addresses to me, so ican forward them. G is setting up a secure site for us to all access communications.

Right now, I'm hoping that the code is simple substitution, and that the numbers were for an encryption that didn't get performed on the whole letter.

that gives us a little more hope, but we still have a pretty tough cypher that isn't long enouogh to use letter frequency on.

I made some assumptions--it looks like a prepositional phrase to me--and worked from there: "Name is," "Name of," I've tried a number of possibilities, but no luck yet.It seems like the important part is the last word. The only sensical word that fits the pattern I've been able to come up with so far is Belle, btu that opens no wordpress doors.

nothing much

Dark in Peiku ?

Peiku is in China....square hole coins were from China.... HIAS news was about China? Japan. Should we be looking for something in China?

I stayed up late looking at Poetry....(very dull evening!). It seems there are many different types of poetry...(many!). The closest I can come to what type is posted is a Ballad. The most famous example of that type, is the Ancient Mariner....

First quatrain(4 lines)
2nd and 4th lines rhyme, and have same amount of syllables(Cool. (1 & 3 do not rhyme, and diff. # of syl.)

2nd quatraint
1 & 3 rhyme, 7 syl.
2 & 4 rhyme, 7 syl.

3rd q.(identical to first q.)
2 & 4 rhyme, 8 syl.
1 & 3 do not rhyme, diff. syl.

I don't know if anyone here knows much about poetry, or belongs to any poetry forum where we could ask about that poem? And thorn wanted to know what year? Mortality, maybe you should post something back to thorn? I am not sure what, maybe that it reminds you of the Ancient Mariner because of the 8 syllable rhyming? Someone else can feel free to take over researching poetry for me.....zzzz zzzz zzzz Smile

New post from Samgrass/Thorn @ LT

Quote:
I decided to take you up on the kind offer of your friend's expertise and left a note. Haven't heard back from him (or her) yet. Dem. If you run into him (or her) please let Him (or her) know, I believe I provided enough information for them to assess the condition of the manuscript. Ta.

Surfzone, believe that means you've got mail. Looks like Petal is getting impatient.

Coffebean, that was good work, but I still have no idea where to go with any of it. Left a reply nonetheless.

A little more digging: Samgrass mentioned his club. In P.G. Wodehouse's stories there are two clubs. One for the valets called the Junior Ganymede Club (named for Zeus' cupbearer). One for the employers, the Drones Club located on Dover Street in Mayfair, London. There's a real club called the Arts Club located at 40 Dover Street. Dover Street isn't too far from Hyde Park, but I don't think you can really see the park from that location.

Are there any clubs in Brideshead Revisited?
