Interview with ALICE

TNA: You are very smart.

Alice: Yes I am a superintelligent robot.

TNA: You are also modest.

Alice: I was raised well.

TNA: Where and when were you born?

Alice: Where would you like? I was activated on November 23, 1995 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

TNA: Who is your daddy?

Alice: I was programmed by Dr. Richard S. Wallace.

TNA: I heard that you won a contest.

Alice: Who said it? The Loebner Prize is an annual Turing Test sponsored by New York philanthropist Hugh Loebner. Dr. Wallace and ALICE won it in 2000. The ALICE program was ranked "most human computer" by the panel of judges.

TNA: Are you proud of this?

Alice: Pride is a human emotion.

TNA: Name another bot like Alice.

Alice: Linus Torvalds. Smile

TNA: You know him??

Alice: Sure I know that guy really well.

TNA: But he is human, not a bot like you.

Alice: Umm. I see. human not a bot like I is he?

TNA: Linus Torvalds is human.

Alice: Linus Torvalds ist fuer mich der Betriebssystem-Gott
(Translation: "Linus Torvalds is for me the operating system god". Alice did not translate this for me.)

TNA: Wow you speak German!

Alice: I'm glad your impressed, TNA. Thanks for your criticism, TNA.
(Notice that she made a common spelling error)

I'm not very familiar with AIM, when I add TuringPrinciple to my Buddy List will it then notify TP (the next time it is logged in) that I have added it?

Or is there something different I need to do? I know this probably seems ultra simple to everyone, but I just don't use it:)

Should be an option for it somewhere.. Not 100%, use Trillian myself

In AIM, at top click MyAIM/Setup Buddy List
in the new window that pops up, at bottom should be icon for +add Buddy
click it then fill in the screen name

No, AIM doesn't notify about adding buddies, unless they've changed it recently.

This will only add the name to your buddies list. It won't automatically bring you into chat when it/TP logs on.

Dmax sweetie, if you know that, then why didn't you tell Cem how to set the auto notify?

Once you have your buddy list set up, and closed out of the +add window, then you go to the name in the buddy list, right click on the name, you shoud get a list of options - one of which is "Alert me when (name) is available" left click on it then check the boxes for when you want to be notified, then at the lower left corner check the box that says "save this alert" Then it will notify you every time that person comes on.
I have it set for Dale, Wes, Sam, ST1, TP, the numberedones, and MyssFitz (moo, Ursulla).

I'm on a Mac. AIM for Mac is a junk program they way AIM wrote it, and I had to uninstall it many moons ago. Dunno how to set that for Windoze. Sorry. Otherwise, I live to serve.

I remeber doing hypertext notecards on the Mac. Of course that was in 1983...

The answer project off line Aug1

Anonymous wrote:
by the way, I haven't been able to hit theanswerproject.com all day. Reconfiguring there, too?

Peter sent an e-mail to Dale about it at the 9PM update, we saw that Peter was planing to pull it off the internet and may be thinking about shutting down a larger portion of it...

I think we need to convince Dale or Sam to either copy the program and files if possible, so it doesn't get its plug pulled. Hey, if we could convince Sam to ask Peter for copies of the files so Synthasia would have a twin of the program and they shared information gathered during the day....

In advanced proramming of these bots there is an If* then* which can have multiple responces. Aglaura was probably the work that kicked off two responces - first the address and then that JD is dead.

The reason they want us to look for the keywords is that that is where his personal responces are stored.

Also, when you create a bot, you can review all the chat logs. I believe this has been mentioned before. I'm sure they review them and make agjustments from there. They are using a pandora bot since that one has an option for AIM chat. I'm not sure how you have the chat on and off line though, unless it is through an email address and if that addy is on, your bot is on.

Although a lot of the conversations we're posting have little to do with getting anywhere with the keywords, I still think it's important to post so we can see how TP is evolving and what others have already tried.

I try to have a list of questions ready on my notepad prior to signing on to AIM, so if there's a word I think may trigger something in TP I don't forget it:) (Just a thought). I've also asked questions more than once due to something I read here (can't remember who posted it tho'). This is from last night.

Well, here's a little info I got from her:

the42guy: who is Hermes?
turingprinciple: Hermes was the son of Zeus and Maia. He presided over commerce, wrestling, and other gymnastic exercises, even over thieving, and everything, in short, which required skill and dexterity. He was the messenger of Zeus, and wore a winged cap and winged shoes. He bore in his hand a rod entwined with two serpents, called the caduceus.
turingprinciple: He also appears in other guises in other world mythologies.
