*ahem* Possible future destruction of all living organisms capable of supporting the Flood.

[/halo nazi]

Isn't that, um, everything?

Nah. Game lore implies the Flood require life-forms with sufficient biomass, calcium stores, and cognitive capacity to properly infect them.

Maybe it just seemed like everything when I was playing...

Here's the relevant dialogue, for confirmation's sake:

Quote:
[scene: Halo's Control Room]

CORTANA:

You have no idea how this ring works, do you? Why the Forerunners built it? Halo doesn't kill Flood, it kills their food. Humans, Covenant, whatever. We're all equally edible. The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death. And that's exactly what Halo is designed to do; wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life. You don't believe me? Ask him.

[Master Chief turns to 343 Guilty Spark]

MASTER CHIEF:

Is this true?

343 GUILTY SPARK:

[pauses]More or less. Technically, this installation's pulse has a maximum effective radius of twenty-five thousand light years. But, once the others follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at least any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood. [pause] But you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you?

Flood, Flood, Flood. The more I read that word, the more it rhymes with "food". Sounds less menacing that way, IMHO. Razz

If you remember that name its because its the name of the tribesman in the Halo 3 comic (Halo3.com/comic).

I can't tell if the AI says N'chala or not but she is talking about a cover up. I don't know the whole story to ILB but if the government found out about N'chala I would think they would cover it up.

... snip ...

It's Chawla (or some alternate spelling) that they're talking about. Chawla Base is where the artifact was being held. The cover up, if I'm understanding you, was the evacuation of Troy.

The food that has become the Flood, or the food that the Flood could eat / convert? Because I enjoy myself a good cow...

Someone who has access to the Bungie Devs, I need to see a Cow Flood Form, stat! They could be part of this weird Bungie / Blizzard mix, where there actually IS a cow level. Or was, because now they're all infested with Flood... I wonder what their purpose would be... (:

Sorry, sometimes, I should be asleep and not talking on the interwebs.

Hmmm... a cow, infused with dangerous, exotic chemicals, that is toxic to all forms of sentient life?

Microsoft have confirmed some details about the ARG to Eurogamer:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77905

The interesting bits:
Quote:
"'Iris' is a spiral campaign designed to take gamers on an incredible journey through the Halo Universe," a spokesperson for Microsoft told us. "Led by an 'unknown' hand, users will discover bits of previously unknown information about the Halos, the Flood, the Forerunners, and the true origins behind the Halo trilogy."

Quote:
"Bungie content chap Frank "Frankie" O'Connor has written most of the material, with help from community manager Brian Jarrard and artist Aaron LeMay."

Well, hmmm. It seems like this ARG is going to be more directly used as a marketing campaign. sigh...

In order for any marketing campaign to be successful, it needs to reach the maximum number of consumers, so...

This ARG might not have the depth of puzzles or the obscure connections to be made like ILB.

I think that me all might figure out the puzzle pieces through the clues we get, but in the end, over time, everything will be spoon feed to those who cannot put the pieces together. That way this ARG is still a successful marketing venture for Microsoft. =(

Boy, you guys are really helping the immersion with all this marketing speak.

Perhaps a new thread is warranted?

ARG: Fiction Breaking Comments and You. Behind the Curtain with Halo 3's Frankie "Stinkles" O'Connor.

The more I look at that glyph, the more it looks like 343 Guilty Spark's face. I may try an overlay for the heck of it when I get home.

Decent shot of GS. Looks similar, but not exact. It's also well known that the Marathon Logo appears in the "eye."

I've been doing some overlays with the 343GS image and while it has some similarities, it is definitely not the same

Okay. I'll let that one be. Good to see I wasn't the only thinking that though.

Lots of straw grasping going on right now while we wait for the timer to expire.

Well, since we have about another 20 minutes before AR's integrity decomposes... All this talk about the halos only wiping out the big critters sorta reminds me of a quote from The Lost World...

Ian Malcolm: God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaurs.
Ellie Sattler: Dinosaurs eat man... Woman inherits the earth.

Despite the fact that I am male... Always found that funny XD

So I was working nearly all weekend so it's been a lot of catching up. AR posted something about his integrity being compromised, that runs up when?

And also, did we have any idea where this would happen?
Please don't say b.net...I'm scared to go back there.
