Schneider-Johne's blog image definitely matches the glyph, although whether he got it from official sources or if it's a tracing from a fan website, I'm not sure...

Here's a quick Babel Fish translation of the blog text:

Quote:
Thus everything begins. An adventure, which will reveal the truth about the galaxy. A way, on which a true hero will step out. Follow the indications to the victory.

It certainly sounds like the Forerunner email, especially the "follow the indications" bit.

to me, the glyph that came in lasts nights email just looks like a stylized GS or PT.. could be a hint that AR is a monitor.

im actually kinda disappointed that the symbol appeared on Halo3's site.

anyhoo, i guess we just keep our eyes peeled.

Doesn't help us, but it is good to know there's something big going on. They're definitely being far more outright about this than they were about ilovebees, which sorta makes me worried. Obviously, the ourcolony.net viral site wasn't very compelling. I hope that this one is as interesting as ilovebees was, but I have my doubts.

a few things really stand out to me in that picture.

1. the man coming out of the telephone poll.

2. the man in the car is in focus (shoulden't be because hes technically moving at the same speed as the car, and should be just as out of focus as the rest of the car.

3. the 'z' on the lady's shopping bag

4. the golden topper on the weathervane of the dome in the background seems like its had the ocntrast turned way up.

5. the glyph itself (after this post i'm going to make jpg's of both glyphs we have so far jsut in case we need them later).

6. the globe on the back of the delivery van looks like a face/pangea

not sure how much of that will be important in any way shape or form. but its a contribution; i haven't run steno on the file yet if somebody else wants to, or has already.

Also:
1. The symbols on the trash can could read "alo" as in Halo
2. Maybe we should pay attention to the street no's. They could mean something
3. Maybe we should search for the building in the photo. You can read "Land.." on the door.

So far this is what I've observed.

Oh, and Hi Smile

I just think most people expected for another halo themed ARG to happen and being coy/sly would not work that well for them this time. After reading the first post made by AR i immediately thought "here we go again".

Plus it took Bungie forever to finally say that ILB was canon (and thus upset we Beekeepers), but this time there won't be any doubt about it since it is on Bungie.net and Halo3.com.

Also keep in mind that this is most likely not run by 42.
Just try not to expect ILB - The Sequel (as much as we would LOVE it), and enjoy it for what it is.

I do not currently have enough experience with stegdetect to proceed further.

Thoughts?

That's stegdetect detecting a hit for jphide. Have you run any jphide/seek tools against the image? You'll probably need a password if there's something there.

Stegdetect is known for false positives though.

Anyone else run any steg tools on any of these images should sound off whether false or positive.

There is meta information that 42 may be involved (see Weephun's post in this thread) but it's not confirmed. We likely won't see confirmation until this campaign ends; the first rule of PM club is to not talk about PM club (when the ARG is running).

-- Steve views 42's involvement as probable, but not certain.

I agree, I knew I heard somewhere that 42 might be involved. I'll find the link later, but there was a BoingBoingBoing podcast that I think Jane McGonigal mentioned it.

After much blood, sweat, tears, and Google-fu, I think I've identified the symbol on the back of the white van.

First, since the email was apparently sent through the German arm of Xbox LIVE, I searched Google for the acronym "TCAF" (it appears on the van) across all German domains. It returned mostly junk, but on the fourth page I got one result for Project Sylpheed, an upcoming title for the Xbox 360.

Using this, I conducted another search for the game title and the original acronym. I verified that TCAF stood for one of the factions in the game -- the Terran Central Armed Forces.

Finally, I looked up videos from the game on YouTube. The second cutscene confirmed what I suspected -- the globe-and-wings logo is the emblem for this in-game faction. Check it out here -- it appears on the electronic screen behind the pilot at about 2:26. Here's a comparison of both symbols for good measure:

*collapses from exhaustion*

*recovers*

So, any thoughts on why MS would insert that into the image? Project Sylpheed is being released in Japan only IIRC, so some viral marketing here wouldn't do much good...

I would think that "indications" might translate as "signs".

If this does turn out to be an ARG, I would think that everything will be kept "in-universe". Look for the puzzles are come from the story itself, not just randomly sent to XBL members from Microsoft. I'm not saying that the crazy picture of the city street isn't part of this game, but it doesn't really follow from what we know.

ILB began with a haunting lyrical quality to it, tales of queens and spiders, and waves washing away a boy's face on the beach. The puzzles were an outgrowth of the Sleeping Princess's creativity, but only after she had already established herself a character. Any puzzles that emerge SHOULD have a reason. Keep an eye out for a new character to appear to create tension with AR. Not everything is going to be a puzzle. If something directly references Halo as a video game, then its obviously not in-universe and OOG.

/CJ's kinda hoping that the "keepers" of the flame is referencing us BeeKeepers
