Too easy!

The whole thing was just too easy. I was sure that the answer would be harder to figure out. What was the point of this nonsense? I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time.

Thanks!

I have been following along on this site from the beggining of the contest, and although I never partook in any discussion (I didn't realize you could post as a guest until late in the contest), I found it interesting to read through some of the threads and see some of the unique ideas all of you had (although the final answer proved to be far less complicated than most of us expected).

With that being said, I'd like to thank the moderators for making it easy for people like me to follow along with topical conversations without having to weed through unnecessary jargon. That afterall is what forums like these are for. If the moderators had done anything differently they would have done all of us, this site, and A.R.G.s a huge disservice.

I know that a lot of people came across this site by accident during the contest. But the organization of the site, the fact that it was easy to use and follow, made us stay throughout the remained of the contest, and in my case most definitely longer. Infact, I had no clue what an Alternate Reality Game was until using this site, and if this site was one which went completely unchecked, then I'd probably have lost interest in it very quickly, thus losing interest in A.R.G.s all together.

So, in conclusion, thanks to everyone who gave me interesting things to think about each night, and thanks to the moderators for making this site user-friendly! You all did a fine job.

Along with that, yeah, the contest wasn't nearly as good as we thought it would be or as it could have been, but look at it this way: the game gave Unfiction and alternate reality games a ton of publicity, and perhaps this website will continue to see more visitors because of the contest and the A.R.G. world will see increased growth because of it too.

Thanks again,

NyM9NyJ7

WHERE DO I START? *lmao*

Do a search for my posts or read the posts and you will learn a lot. This was a SCAM and should have been shut down before it even began! For example, we had all the answers before it even started by watching all of the videos they put nicely in order on the SMH page.

As far as this site (since the "moderators went off on a tangent - bad moderators!), I didn't appreciate being scolded by SpaceBass who didn't even read my message right. My example:

SpaceBass said:
Quote:
Perhaps...
A better phrasing might have been, "If you want help with posting, PM me." I appreciate the desire for order but prefer to assist people with encouragement, rather than the opposite. Smile

Cheers,
SpaceBass

I am. Smile There's actually no rule against not using spoilers, it's merely a courtesy thing (that gets overused IMHO). However, there is this bit from the ToS:
Quote:
These forums are a community; users should respect the other participants in this community. In general, users should conduct themselves in respectful, appropriate ways that encourage inclusion and cooperation.

There's nothing wrong with venting your frustration in a constructive way, as long as you aren't being abusive, but telling someone to discontinue posting is not what I would call inclusive or respectful.

Regards,
SpaceBass

I only said I didn't want people sending me PM's (Private messages). On top of that, I told that individual to "feel free to jump in" so where do you get that as "telling someone to discontinue posting"? I don't want PM's and that includes from you SpaceBass.

Edit: Fixed that for you, for context. Love, SpaceBass

How was the game a scam? It was pretty obvious from the beginning that it was a marketing ploy, but there's nothing wrong with that. Marketing isn't illegal.

Off Topic: I thought this was a thread for Evaluating the SMH Game. Doesn't uF have another forum to make complaints about the uF group? Not trying to start an argument, just asking a question.

On Topic:
IMOH --
As a Game, it was definitely a juvenile effort.
As a Contest, it wasn't good because the game was too easy.
As a Marketing ploy, it probably worked for someone ... look how many people registered giving their addresses and phone numbers.

I generally use the term SCAM if I was dumb enough give someone money for no good reason. However, if you place a $ value on time spent on the game, it was a HUGE SCAM! Dunno

We do indeed have a forum for complaints, suggestions, and discussion generally about other Unfiction administrative issues: the General Forum in the administration section.

The Grinder, I'm sorry if you were misunderstood by SpaceBass or anyone else here. I'll second him on saying that asking people to stop posting is not appropriate, and that we try to keep criticism from becoming abusive, but if all you were asking is for people to stop private-messaging you...well, I can't promise that they'll listen, but you certainly have a right to ask them to stop (nothing, of course, says you have to read their messages if you're being inundated).

Please bear in mind that a lot of the staff is a little overwhelmed and sleep-deprived from trying to keep up with this game, so my general apologies if I or anyone else misreads what you're saying. Please be patient with us. Smile

the game

There were so many directions the game "could have taken", it seemed less than what I would expect from my grandson. The light fixture on the ceiling of the holding area was suspiciously similar to the fixture in the backdoor feed, suggesting they weren't very creative while putting together a "set". Leaving the missing video feed out of the game was annoying, at best. Leaving Grant on the video was a bit juvenile.

The best part of the game was finding this site, as I've wasted ten years following dead end "real" clues in the solving of the Jonbenet murder case, it's fun to find a site that may offer some challenging "cases" that can be solved to an "end".

I btw, do not suspect the Ramsey family, and feel the involvement of Lee and other "media" types destroyed any possibility of finding the killer.

 Review of the game...
Was it worth it?

If you came here to Win 25,000 dollars, you should have read the rules.

The game appears to have been everything the sponsor wanted it to be,
attention getting, easy, rapid, and pablum for the masses. If you were looking for a super cool AGN, it couldn't be that and attract the masses.

It was good introduction to online games, a great example of viral marketing, a better example of bait and switch, (dangle 25K) and hand out
a few coupons...Best you can hope for is a buy one get one meal or a low value gift card.

I think, Deep Focus made errors switching back the finger print is the most glaring, switching it in the first place was genius. Because it caught all the
people who peeked in a catch 22 leaving them doubting. Which is exactly
where you should be if you trust data gleaned before its proper time in game.

I think they have every right to post false hints tips and fake clues for those crawling the web, to find even before the game started. Why?
Promotion, Promotion, promotion. This forum was up and running before the game even started, selling their product!!! How's that for free advertising.

Their only real goof, was dropping the curtain so their personal information got out, and I wonder if that wasn't done for its own secret purposes as well, if you want to talk directly and survey the actual players who are really digging, why not let them find you. That way you can ask them
seemingly innocent questions without bias, from a random sample of high
end players. allowing you to understand the techniques they use frequently to crack your game.

If your listening, I ate at Applebee's last night. I wouldn't mind a gift card,
or a special pin saying Applebee's Detective (how about a lifetime 5%
discount!!! or free soda with every visit for Applebee's Detectives!!!) TM
(you'll have to contact me about rights for that one... I can be found
Online, if you look hard enough! ha!)

I didn't play this one, but strangely enough my mom did. She's never played anything like an ARG before, and she really enjoyed it. I think part of that is due to the fact that this one was quite a bit easier than most. Sure, they could have used a little more security, but that didn't really affect the run-of-the-mill neophyte that this game was targeted at. I think it was a success due simply to the interest it generated, both in the sponsors and in the game medium itself.

evaluating unfiction and save my husband
what did u think of the game

for me im new at all computer things and am very ecited about finding this site as well as court tv game. for those who are compaining- it must have caught at least ur attention and kept it if u played the whole game. i couldnt wait till the next clue although even for a novice like me the final answer needed help in creating. i got grant even before they fixed the fingerprint but the address was a different matter. on the vidio even though it was suppose to be damaged the kidnapper never said cherry street no matter how long u listen to it-believe me, lol. i listened till 4am central time and even used earphones for clarity and even listened in the dark with no other noises around. and even had others here around me listen the same way and never once got cherry street. we all agreeded ( even by writting votes ) it was not sherry but kirby street however because there was no kirby in all of what i looked up i went with cherry street not to win just to try and be right i guess. i knew winning was silly because everyone had to get the clues. the other problem is them not telling us the address when they did vidio andrew safe and who it was never the address. i believe if they fix or ajust certain items this would be perfect. but i still couldnt leave the game 4 good. IT GOT ME HOOK LINE AND SINKER. thank you 4 the chance to solve it.

Well, I can't say I spent more than maybe 15-20 minutes a day on the game, so the time I wasted wasn't that much. After the first couple of days, I figured out that it wasn't meant to be brain surgery, so I didn't knock myself out over it.

But I thought it was mildly amusing, so I wouldn't say the time was wasted in any case.

For Joe Schmoe not-an-ARGer, I think this is actually a nice introduction to the genre. Easy, simple story, little incentive at the end (very little). XD

Thanks for the game. Smile

An Outrage!
speech impediments, intact video, paper trails, and tv shows

Ok, I found this site on day 1 of the contest while researching for clues. I was outraged by the very loose and public posting of answers. I will never understand why people would give away their info, but now I am outraged by the fact that the contest came down to a matter of opinion. What did the kidnapper with a speech impediment actually say? My first impression was "Curry Street", which led nowhere. I listened to it over and over and realized that as he was saying what sounded like curry, there is a clicking sound that almost sounds like someone snapping their fingers together. I then thought that it possibly said "Perry Street" If you listen to it and pause it right before the clicking sound, it sounds like the first consonant is a "P" Maybe this is because someone who viewed the original video before it's release said that they overdubbed over Bibby Street. Detective Kinlan said in the message that the audio was intact. Wouldn't this mean that the audio would be exactly as recorded when compared to the totally unclear video quality? I am somewhat confused by what his idea of intact is. That is like saying your arm is intact when it is only hanging on by a single blood vessel!

I also remember that in the rules, they said that all information could be found on the savemyhusband site, or sites that it sends you to. That would mean that it would have to be one of the addresses that are listed. If that is the case, why would Grant say that the paper trail would be a mile thick when it is right there?! I guess he had never heard of the internet, much less looked at it. I guess that is why he said "paper" trail!

I saw the address of the Voice Daily News on the building during the second press conference. It showed 20 Jay Street, which I found is actually in New York City. I even found a picture of it that matches the picture of it when Frank Calouri is running off. You can see "RAPH", which is the end of "BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPH" What I'm getting at is the fact that Cherry Street, Jay Street, and Perry Street are all in New York City's downtown vicinity. I had a hard time deciding between 8 North Cherry Street and Perry street, but since I could not find anything linking to Perry Street from the game sites, I had to go with Cherry Street, since I actually had a number.

It all comes down to a matter of opinion of what the kidnapper said, especially since there was no visual clue as to where he was that I know of. All this work and time lost in my life! If I lived in New York City, I would have gone down to the real 8 North Cherry Street and see if there was a real visual connection. After all, it was so obvious that the camera focused on 20 Jay Street, which is where the videos were filmed in New York.

It was also very obvious that "Til Death Do Us Part" was more than just an anagram. It is also a CourtTV show. I read on TV.com website that clues would be given during this show, so I looked for it, and watched it. I did see clues in the show, like the red parrot on the curtain, the pink flowers, and the picture of Andrew in the newspaper throwing a football. I will discuss these more in another thread later, but it turns out that nothing that I thought would be a clue from these shows even was. All that I saw while watching the show on TV was this (Can't Get Enough of Til Death Do Us Part? first season available now on iTunes), so I got excited and purchased the season thinking that this was where the best clues would come from. That's what I would have expected anyway, to my great dissapointment.

I realized today that my bank account is now overdrawn thanks to that purchase! So if you didn't win anything, don't feel bad, at least you aren't in the negatives! I must say that I did enjoy watching the episodes over and over! If you chose Cherry Street, that is the popular choice here, but I went out on a limb and re-submitted Perry Street without a street number as my second and final guess. I did this because I knew I wouldn't get enough money to be worth my while by choosing the most obvious answer. Who knows, maybe they will see this post and pick me as the ultimate winner! (yeah right). The fact that I got a text message saying that they needed an address also led me to believe that Cherry Street must have been wrong too! I have an empty bank account, a dictionary sized stack of hand-written notes, every show of Til Death Do Us Part to prove that I dug into this contest with full force! I also haven't checked my myspace page in a week! I think I'll go do that now.

By the way, my username on here is an anagram for Save My Husband - saved by humans! Maybe they will choose and justify one of the less popular answers to avoid paying out thousands of prize checks worth less than a dollar! That is my only hope to winning enough to be worth my effort! Good Luck!
