 why complain?

Why complain? With the hints that were given for every puzzle could it really be counted as a game versus a really good advertisement/publicity tool.

The game was free, no one forced you to play.

Ok, maybe not complain...

Ok, maybe "complain" isn't the right word - but there were DEFINITELY things that could have been handled better. Constructive criticism/feedback should be something they welcome to make the experience better the next time... and I do hope they continue these...

And yes -- CourtTV is the appropriate forum for that - not here...

Thanks for the link!

Reposting this here, since this seems like a more appropriate place than where I originally replied with it:

I think both sides have valid points here.

On one hand, everyone who played got a week of free entertainment, and it must have been fun somehow, or most people would not have continued to play.

On the other hand, if people invested a lot of time and energy into the game because it started out cool, but feel, at the end, like their investment was wasted, then that is a valid reason to be upset.

As someone who's both been an active player and worked on the other side of the curtain, and who frequently writes about and reports on the genre, I feel that the biggest obligation you have to your players as a designer is to do your best to set their expectations correctly. That can be difficult -- sometimes you think you've done a good job of conveying some sense of what the game is going to be like ("this is going to be an epic adventure," or "this is going to be a light puzzle trail"), and people still get different ideas about it and end up disappointed or angry or feeling like you promised something you didn't deliver.

But for those who are disappointed and are interested in delivering constructive criticism (not that I have any knowledge of whether the Deep Focus people are reading this thread, but it's an interesting conversation nonetheless) -- what were you expecting, and why were you expecting it, and how were your expectations not met?

Ok, I found this site on day 1 of the contest while researching for clues. I was outraged by the very loose and public posting of answers. I will never understand why people would give away their info, but now I am outraged by the fact that the contest came down to a matter of opinion. What did the kidnapper with a speech impediment actually say? My first impression was "Curry Street", which led nowhere. I listened to it over and over and realized that as he was saying what sounded like curry, there is a clicking sound that almost sounds like someone snapping their fingers together. I then thought that it possibly said "Perry Street" If you listen to it and pause it right before the clicking sound, it sounds like the first consonant is a "P" Maybe this is because someone who viewed the original video before it's release said that they overdubbed over Bibby Street. Detective Kinlan said in the message that the audio was intact. Wouldn't this mean that the audio would be exactly as recorded when compared to the totally unclear video quality? I am somewhat confused by what his idea of intact is. That is like saying your arm is intact when it is only hanging on by a single blood vessel!

I also remember that in the rules, they said that all information could be found on the savemyhusband site, or sites that it sends you to. That would mean that it would have to be one of the addresses that are listed. If that is the case, why would Grant say that the paper trail would be a mile thick when it is right there?! I guess he had never heard of the internet, much less looked at it. I guess that is why he said "paper" trail!

I saw the address of the Voice Daily News on the building during the second press conference. It showed 20 Jay Street, which I found is actually in New York City. I even found a picture of it that matches the picture of it when Frank Calouri is running off. You can see "RAPH", which is the end of "BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPH" What I'm getting at is the fact that Cherry Street, Jay Street, and Perry Street are all in New York City's downtown vicinity. I had a hard time deciding between 8 North Cherry Street and Perry street, but since I could not find anything linking to Perry Street from the game sites, I had to go with Cherry Street, since I actually had a number.

It all comes down to a matter of opinion of what the kidnapper said, especially since there was no visual clue as to where he was that I know of. All this work and time lost in my life! If I lived in New York City, I would have gone down to the real 8 North Cherry Street and see if there was a real visual connection. After all, it was so obvious that the camera focused on 20 Jay Street, which is where the videos were filmed in New York.

It was also very obvious that "Til Death Do Us Part" was more than just an anagram. It is also a CourtTV show. I read on TV.com website that clues would be given during this show, so I looked for it, and watched it. I did see clues in the show, like the red parrot on the curtain, the pink flowers, and the picture of Andrew in the newspaper throwing a football. I will discuss these more in another thread later, but it turns out that nothing that I thought would be a clue from these shows even was. Here's the link to that post: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19597 All that I saw while watching the show on TV was this (Can't Get Enough of Til Death Do Us Part? first season available now on iTunes), so I got excited and purchased the season thinking that this was where the best clues would come from. That's what I would have expected anyway, to my great dissapointment.

I realized today that my bank account is now overdrawn thanks to that purchase! So if you didn't win anything, don't feel bad, at least you aren't in the negatives! I must say that I did enjoy watching the episodes over and over! If you chose Cherry Street, that is the popular choice here, but I went out on a limb and re-submitted Perry Street without a street number as my second and final guess. I did this because I knew I wouldn't get enough money to be worth my while by choosing the most obvious answer. Who knows, maybe they will see this post and pick me as the ultimate winner! (yeah right). The fact that I got a text message saying that they needed an address also led me to believe that Cherry Street must have been wrong too! I have an empty bank account, a dictionary sized stack of hand-written notes, every show of Til Death Do Us Part to prove that I dug into this contest with full force! I also haven't checked my myspace page in a week! I think I'll go do that now.

By the way, my username on here is an anagram for Save My Husband - saved by humans! Maybe they will choose and justify one of the less popular answers to avoid paying out thousands of prize checks worth less than a dollar! That is my only hope to winning enough to be worth my effort! Good Luck!

Geezzzz.......I had fun, how can you argue with free entertainment. Some folks don't know HOW to enjoy themselves without complaining!

It stated very clearly on the Guidelines page that no purchase was necessary and wouldn't increase your chances of winning. It also stated that everything you needed to complete the game and clues would be given to us through that main SMH site. I am sorry you emptied your bank account over it, but glad you at least enjoyed the episodes! Very Happy

I don't feel the need to write to Court TV at this point, I think they will have a pretty good idea as to where the game fell short, but it was entertaining and I did get to see some great deductive reasoning on these forums.

I went with Curvasand myself, the Cuh sound was just to clear for me to get the word Cherry from it.

Hope we at least find the name they wanted for the street at some point!

You can argue that employees of Susuki and Applebees very much were the contributors to the public answers. Of course, they will never admit that. It is natural for humans to be greedy yet this was an unusual mutual relationship. The first sentence has to be the reason. There will be others who say otherwise but they most likely are the said employees. Just think about it.

We try very hard to prevent people involved with the creation of a game from posing as players.

you know what i find odd is how many people are complaining about answers that were given out here for a few reasons;
1st, they often seem to be very concerned by others generosity of giving clues/answers thus possible lowering their share.
2nd, like the above comment where they say how they did not like the answers posted here HOWEVER they further state that was after they came to this site !!
seems to me if they dont want to be generous then dont post answers ... and if you do not want help or answers then WHY THE HECK ARE YOU LOOKING OFF THE GAME SITES?????
most of us realised the puzzles were more of a joke than hard work (well that is unless you were reading too much into it ) so most of the spoilers were not realy here because others could not get it but just for fun and conversation.
i for one thank you folks here for making a very dull game a little more fun !

Understand your point. But the final answer was NOT given out, it was speculated. So, at this juncture it is everyone's guess what the actual real answer is. And, the marketing company set it up that way.

This game was not dull and we certainly did not make it dull. If you don't like someone giving out the answers all along please grow up, the answers were all over the net!

No one is going to ruin my fun, and this WAS fun!

I totally agree. Sure there were a few slip-ups (I'm sure they'll make sure their hidden pages are more secure and not on google next time.) Very Happy But I'd say if you didn't like it, just don't play the next one. I found it fun--it was a nice distraction. It's not like anyone had to pay money to play this.
