[META] Deep Focus Incompetence

In another lengthy topic, Grinder appears to have it on the nose. In an effort to compensate for its own ARG programming incompetence and state of "busted-ness," Deep Focus has gone from bad to worse. Here's an explanation of the real mystery.

1. Today's fingerprint matches that of Grant Tenbrook on the old FP grid at the Akarm site; however, someone at DP didn't QC the new uploaded FP grid. So now the gamer can only conclude that today's fingerprint belongs to someone the gamer's never been introduced to--which violates a cardinal rule of mystery making.

2. The address stated in today's video, which appears redubbed, sounds something like "Curvy Street" to me. I also suspect that someone at DP forgot to upload a new set of addresses at the real-estate holding page at the Zendorel site, because there's nothing there now that comes close to "Curvy" ("Cherry" ain't it).

My prediction: laywers will be involved.

IDs on FP Grid

Ok, now they've changed the identities on the FP grid at the Akarm site.

All roads lead to...These guys are morons.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the audio does refer to one of the addresses we've seen elsewhere. I clipped it and sped it up a little, because of all the mentions of how the tape was "damaged" and how the clue was "in the audio." At just a marginally faster speed, it's pretty clear what the kidnapper's saying. So I'm not sure lawyers will be needed for that either. On the other hand, this was a remarkable amount of work required for what was otherwise a *REALLY* easy set of puzzles, so I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it.

Bogus!

I will get a few dozen of my friends and we will sit and order lots and lots of food at Applebee's and then LEAVE stating we CHANGED our MIND... like your advertising company did when we figured the correct answer and they change it.

 Disappointing and confusing
deep sigh

My thought was this: Sonia was mad because Grant fired her so she followed him and ended up taking this video. It being Grant is not only too easy, but it doesn't make sense. He's afraid of being connected to Andrew in any way, but yet leaves the murder weapon with his fingerprints at the crime scene? Along with the case of money? And the Street definitely sounds like Curry or Curvy Street. Even speeded up Cherry wouldn't be something I would come up with. And whoever is on the camera splits without taking the camera? The proof of where Andrew is? Maybe it's me, but I was hoping for something with a little more thought into it. I mean, some things on this game were so clever and some things just plain dumb. I hate to guess Grant because is seems just too obvious and as far as where Andrew is......that I haven't a clue on, but I'll keep looking. I'm pretty sure he'll "live" with our without my help, lol.

Who is Robert Johnson ? LOL

I Had Entered Robert Johnson Early This morning, afterwards I left a TECH Question at the savemyhusband website.
As for WHO THE **** is ROBERT JOHNSON - LOL
I Mean DAY 1-7 were pretty ABSOLUTE as for an answer and Then Day 8.
lol , Hey wasn't that Grant Tenbrook's old fingerprint ? how many people entered him (Not Me) Obviously I need to USE MY SECOND ANSWER NOW THAT THEY CHANGED IT BACK TO GRANT THIS AFTERNOON AFTER I JUST WOKE UP ! LOL

And than I added to the TECH ? Nothing absolute about the address, I mean I guess I have to decifer that the smartass kidnapper was just making FUN of the Cherry Street name and calling it (Ch)kerrVy Street.
I mean really the final answer is to me the BEST MATCH out of all the streets on the website, Curvasand could have been one also 50/50 chance their but since Curvasand is a Highway and not a street. I did not hear any slurring when he said STREET SO ( 8 North Cherry Street) it is as my best possible match unless of course the Curvasand street sign was vandalized by Street Punks and it looks like Curvy Street Now !!
LOL- WTF I Told Them I Was NUMB about this DAY - 8 CRAP !!!
hahahahaha maybe DAY 8 is the CLUE for CHERRY STREET ?
I mean Curvasand had 34 as the address which was that PERIODIC TABLE answer KIND OF (134) so who knows? nothing absolute here !
Azz A Ma Holes !!! I Need An Absolute Now !! hahahahah (Vodka that is)

SMH has been a sorry excuse for a game. I was reallly hoping to have some fun with this. Being a huge Sherlock Holmes and CourtTV fan, I thought this would be great, but no. Every single answer was hand delivered on a silver platter. Well execpt maybe the street where Andrew is. I thought the kidnapper said "Piri Street" (peer-E). Either way, after looking at every site we have come across (and/or given) there is no street remotely close to that. Logic says that the way everything has gone so far, it must be Cherry, it's the closest available and it actually has an address listed with a number.

The shoddiness of the game is sickeningly obvious when my 7 year old nephew was solving the clues. (He just turned 7 on 6/7). I didn't even have to prompt him to look at the periodic table for the one clue as one character mentioned to do so. He got my placemat (which has the periodic table on it) and typed the answers into the puzzle.

I'm guessing the game was made easy at Applebee's request. The Official Rules state:

"Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to
substitute a prize (or portion thereof) with one of
comparable or greater value."

Think about it... So many people 'win' that it isn't logical to print and mail 6,250 checks worth 25¢. So a substitution is made and we all get a $5 coupon to Applebee's. What this does, is that many people will lose or just not use them, meaning they don't have to honor them, and they are basically only out the few cents it costs to print all of them. But they WANT you to use them. Why? Because no one goes to a restaurant and only orders $5 worth of food, and usually don't go alone. This means that Applebee's makes a huge profit. I get a $10 meal, which costs me $5 with my coupon. My friend gets a $10 meal, and pays the whole amount. Add in drinks and appetizers, then multiply that by 6,250, and they make a bundle of money.

SIGH.

2-Shot Deal

I think Day 8's 2-attempt deal is a CYA attempt by Deep Focus to make up for their fingerprint ID snafu of this morning.

Another clue that the last part of this SMH challenge has been addressed in a slap-dash fashion is Christina's pop-up response: "Thank you. You're answer has been sumbitted [sic]."

No, wait. Give me another chance. I sumbit you're idiots.

Don't blame the corporate sponsor. Dine and Dash is illegal and only hurts the local restaurant (and the employees).

The internet company was good at website content, good at sending out emails and videos. They were not prepared for the collective intelligence of the experienced ARG detectives - and finding stuff online that should not have been placed online until appropriate. And not very good at proofreading for consistency.

That stuff is not the fault of CourtTV, Applebees nor Suzuki.

A) The 2 attempt deal was up front at the beginning.
B) I disagree that it was a good effort for website content. There were a bunch of website errors throughout.
C) I agree that it's not the fault of Applebee's, Suzuki (weren't they supposed to come into this as a sponsor other than that one picture?) or Court TV. Deep Focus, on the other hand, should stay away from this avenue of "viral marketing"
CD I agree that dining and dashing is illegal, but the original comments were probably facetious to start with and didn't deserve an "official" reply. Even if some of the players are children or prone to such acts of retribution, nobody here is going to change the behavior pattern if it was serious and disputing it only gives it credence and doesn't serve any purpose. I'd have thought the staff would have learned that from the Deep Focus meta thread and the browser issue thread.

So I have to post a disclaimer every time I make a comment?

When I post a comment, that is my personal opinion. Unless I specifically state "Per unFiction policy/guidelines/etc".

And we've seen a few people make posts that have been a little bit off (aka, the person who kept wanting to call the folks on the googlecache who work for Deep Focus).

I was disagreeing, nothing more. It's just that there can be quite the patronizing attitude mixed in with a lot of the moderation around here. I understand part of it in this particular game, as there was huge influx of inanity due to the commercial nature of the game. That being said, it's not new to this game and, whether you like it or not, if you're moderating a forum, *all* of your posts are going to be percieved as that moderation to the general public.

So, "disclaimer"? No. A little less patronization would be nice, though.

The guy posting about the google cache was yanking your chain and you followed him right along. A ton of people saw the post and called the numbers, but come on...it became pretty clear that JonB was messing around trying to get attention by his 3rd post on the topic. The problem was that tons of people were following his lead. Quite frankly, that discussion thread should have been removed immediately intead of the staff arguing with him and giving him exactly what he wanted.

Except the policy of uF is not to censor or delete comments, opinions and spec. We only delete the spam. We do lock inappropriate threads and explain why.
