Hasn't been any way so far that can restrict access to over 18yo. Except to have a pay to see website and then it's just porn (although I suppose someone could do an entire ARG within that pay website, but the suspension of reality, the PM curtain, and the concept of TINAG is pretty much nil).

"Eldritch Errors deals with mature themes and is intended for audiences aged 18 and up."

I don't how they'll enforce this "intention". Last Call Poker merely had an honor system, where you had to input your birthday to initially access the site. I suppose that gave them a legal out to say, "hey, they claimed they were over 18, go prosecute them for false claims."

I find it fascinating how Americans are generally more squeemish about sex than violence, while the rest of the world is the opposite way (in vague general trends). Eldritch Errors is more likely to be of the violence and dark themes, but i'm up for a little nudity.

Last Call's age gate was 13, not 18.

I don't know if it's Americans, or just the American government.

But, I agree, there are a lot of bible belt folks who cringe at the mention of anything of a sexual nature. But violence is acceptible.

You had it right there.
It's not being an American, it's not the government, It's religion. (specifically Christianity)

Silly me.
I always thought we Americans produced more media with sexual content that the rest of the world, combined.

But do they *sell* more in America than the rest of the world combined?

Speaking for an entire nation I'm quite happy with anything a bit saucy or violent as long as it's camp, the stains come out of the carpet and you can have a cup of tea afterwards.

Oh yes. A cup of tea makes everything ok. Or a song - if there's a singalong at the end, everyone's happy.

And Phaedra, I think it's really lovely that the stuff earlier in the thread went over your head Very Happy

(emphasis mine)
Now, let's stay away from stereotypes and bashing (not that that was your intent, but the thread can degrade to that quite quickly). I know plenty of non-Christian people who would also agree with the state of north americas acceptance of sexuality, morality, and censorship. Granted, a lot of the heat from the gov't comes from the vocal political conservatives, but Christianity is not the "problem". As Kona said, there are a lot of bible belt folk who are vocal on such matters. Christianity does hold to certain morals, but so do quite a large number of non-Christians, and not everyone is fighting to regulate it through government and law.

Moving on, back to the topic, before this gets derailed and degrades to another religion thread...

Yeah, but none of that explains why those who advocate for tighter restrictions on what can be shown, whether they represent religion or whatever, seem to have a bigger problem with seeing breasts than they do with seeing someone's head get blown off.

Last time I checked, regardless of what religion you're talking about, murder was a bigger sin than nudity. Rolling Eyes

So I'd still say American culture has, um, issues with the priority they put on such things.

Then again, considering that the Puritans were totally okay with taking kids to public hangings and burnings, but not with letting them see cleavage, it's probably not that hard to trace the neurosis.

oh yeah it certainly has its roots in the founding culture Smile
but I think changes in cultures are relient on people more than necessarily what they stand for... A lot of good things have been done in the name of Christianity, as well as a lot of bad things... but the same can be said for the secular world, and really, any religion.

The thing about democracy is, aside from political corruption, everyone has a vote, and things can change. So if we want less restrictions on what's considered inappropriate for age groups, then people need to step up and change peoples general opinion within the culture. So often minorities exaggerate saying 'everyone wants this or everyone wants that', but when push comes to shove, it's still a minority, so unless there's a precendent, majority still rules (I'm speaking ultimately, even the gov't can change in a flash if the public sways its vote, and these days there's no hesitation to review amendments and adjustment to existing laws).
Really, in the end you could say anything is possible if you get enough people on your side. *shrug*

XD That episode was hilarious! (And, at the end, also rather touching.)

The last few videos of LG15 have dealt with sex, yeah. But it's very PG-13.
