(from the AR thread)

How do you register to be a member on the SOTA??? I click on the links and my e-mail pops up, but with no e-mail address? I'm sure you guys have already covered this..sorry..any help would be appreciated.

Please use the search next time - the more we have to go over the same things, the harder it will be for -anyone- to make sense of this thread.

To summarize - the mailto: tags on the Society of the Ancients web page are blank. By viewing the source, you can find a comment that links to the PDF seen above, and asks you tos end in that membership to doyougrok at societyoftheancients dot com.

So people have said messages sent there bounce back, however messages sent to that name at the ip address of the web site do not bounce, which is no certain indication that they have been received, just that there is no error response.

The PDF specifies they go through their registration rosters at the new moon, I believe, so that means an instant response, even if this does work, should not be expected.

That is all the news that's fit to print ATM regarding signing up for membership at SOTA.

No offense, but can we please keep this to canon?

Mind posting the convo in a word doc?

I'm willing to have a look at any info regarding SOTA. I think we should wait until we can determine the validity before we discount it out of hand. Yes, it's not canon, as far as we know, but taking a look can't hurt. Both blogs discovered have information that seems relevant. Let's have a look and see what comes out of it. There's nothing else pressing at the moment, is there?

I still think that kid is all bunk. If you have played Halo or Halo 2, you have seen a sentinel. And this kid is merely going along with most of what everyone else is asking him. A MySpace kid haoxing us all. The Halo3ARG Wizard of Oz of sorts.

I agree (particularly with siege) - If you can prove a link to this profile through accepted sources (SOTA, AR, the countdown page, another IP address off the Microsoft set), great. Otherwise, this is bunk, and we should move on.

We need to figure out this Avery guy. He at least has a little bit more credibility going for him as being in-game, as he is an actor, has been hired in video game commercials and such. And he had such good SOTA info on his MySpace account.
We need to call him to confirm anything using the telephone numbers on his webpage. http://www.averyfane.com/contact.html
As I have stated earlier, respect and thought should go into every move we make, so please someone from the West Coast call him at 12:00 PST, as that is lunch time and most people are at lunch and able to converse.

Regarding the PDF. There are user-editable PDF's. I use one at work to fill in my time card every week. The PDF is static, but the fields (including checkboxes and radio buttons) all function as they would on a web page or application. Perhaps this PDF is going to be upgraded to one like that once the email-address becomes valid.

While a random 18 year old on MySpace isn't exactly the first place I would go for a reliable source of anything, we definitely shouldn't rule anything out quite yet. The ARG just went into full force last night, and we have no idea what is and is not related to the ARG, other than what is specifically referenced to from Halo3.com, such as the two IP addresses.

This kid is probably just another person on Bungie or args.bungie, or even in the Unforums who has been following the story and just wants to be an ass.

We'll have to wait until the 21st, I'm guessing, to see what is truly canonical.

All I can say about SOTA membership is for everyone to get their writers hats on, because I think that good answers to the questions asked on the membership pdf might get us more information when we all do get to apply.

increasing the sensitivy to about 3 returns a jphide hit, i did a brute on it earlier, and nothing came back, I've been in the process of compiling a more halo specific wordlist to use in the brute attack.

more interestingly for me is that Symbol.jpg brings back a false negative, now this 'could' be due to the manipulation to place the sign onto the photo, but then again it could be a very blatent following of the instruction "look for the signs"

I don't think it's in full force. We're not even meant to be where we are in it. I'd still consider this pregame. Any idiot who wants to make a fake website using character names from ingame can do so and I don't think we should consider it all canon until ruled otherwise. Actually we should do the opposite.

By the way, I have to say this: ATDT is A jack of all trades, not THE jack of all trades. (That made me so sad, and Kristen ripped me a new one for it)

I just saw this on Args.Bungie:

http://www.akqa.com/images/email/SOTA_site/index.html

This is the SOTA site with the updated mailing list as well as the link to the PDF. We need to start a page just for links on the wiki or something, because these things are popping up all over the place.

Xin, honestly, if this is an ARG paid for by Microsoft, I expect them to follow the rules fairly solidly established in the ARG world - the reason you have a trailhead is that ALL points in the ARG can be reached from there, somehow.

If the people responsible for this ARG are so foolish as to make, essentially, NEW trailheads, I'm backing away slowly, because there's no way to make sense of anything, and no way to determine what is legit and what is bunk.

There is, of course, the (IMHO scant) possibility that this page may be referenced in the -future- by a canon source, making it legit. Until then, we aren't supposed to be there, and while it may be fun to stay a step ahead of PM's, it is -no- fun to break a game.

Alright, that is understandable, and like I said, I did have doubts. The last person to post on his blog should clear up if he actually knows anything or not, but I agree; for now let's only focus on what has been shown to us directly from the main websites.
